I've noticed that when someone sets out to scan a system for PVE signatures, they sometimes have to go through a long list of sites which is a big headache and time sink, but it's important to have a high number of sites to go through or else there's a good chance you won't find any of what you're looking for.
So I am proposing a tool that players can use to sift through their signatures to get only a specific type:
Specialized core scanner probes, coming in four varieties:- probes which pick up NPC sites
- probes which pick up data sites or archaeological ruins
- probes which pick up ore/ice/gas pockets
- probes which pick up wormholes
When you scan with a set of these probes, it will only pick up its type of signature, and everything else will be ignored. You'll still see their ghost pre-scan images in the map but you can more quickly home in on the signatures of the type you're looking for because they won't show up as partially scanned.
Then along with this, perhaps the number of available sites could be increased, especially by adding extra lower quality sites. So you can sift through and pick out the few good ones, or if you're bored you can just run everything.

LOL. No.
That time sink is very ******* intentional.

Lol no. This would quadruple the amount of sites people could clear per hour. For instance, a DeD 4/10 probs take 10-15 minutes to clear but probably an hour to find. With this change, you can say goodbye to hours of scanning.
This is a signature.
It has a 25m signature.
No it's not a cosmic signature.
Probably.
Btw my corp's recruiting.

Well, it wouldn't quite quadruple it... Reason being that much of the time consumed wouldn't be changed. Travel time and at least one scan would be fixed values.
But it would still eliminate what is obviously an intentional time sink. If you weren't supposed to have to spend at least a little bit of time sorting out the base type of a signature, it would be easier to just ******* tell you what the type is.

I can already spot a 6/10 immediately off the first scan result. It's pretty simple. My alt is out scanning, I drop probes at 8 AU. I get a return in the 40% range that says "Combat site." I automatically know it is a 6/10 if any of three conditions are fulfilled:
1. Intel reports an enemy gang two jumps away and all my friends are online and spoiling for a fight. 2. There are no enemy gangs around and I can see a corpmate's Tengu on directional scan in the same system. 3. I desperately need to eat/sleep/go to work, but decide "I'll scan one more system on my way back to my home station."
Directly on point: this new feature is not needed or wanted. The time sink is good and intentional.
CCP should add more NPC 0.0 space to open it up and liven things up: the Stepping Stones project.

With average scanning skills, this information usually is revealed on the 4AU, aka second, scan of a sig. Quickly identifying the type of sig, thus eliminating it from the ones you're looking for, is part of the human skill involved.
EvE is hard. It's harder if you're stupid.
I couldn't have said it better.

Oh hell no. Exploration is already way easier than it used to be. This just makes it idiotic.
And seriously. I know the signature band before I scan based on the visible size. Second scan I get type. Third scan I get pinpoint if I decide I want it (except if I'm going for a sleeper cache). If you're doing more than that then get out there and practice. |
