It seems to me that the suite of ECM modules is somewhat lacking. As it currently stands the modules used for ECM and ECCM pertain in some what shape or form to lock range, lock time, breaking lock etcetera in other words they are reactive ECM modules designed to counter or counter/counter on grid. This is all well and good but what about off grid. One of the purest military concepts is the one of surprise.
GÇ£Appear weak when you are strong and strong when you are weak.GÇ¥ GÇò Sun Tzu
How is this achieved in EVE? The answer is Deception ECM. What I envision are modules that can be placed upon ships that allow you to modify the signature of your ship to make it appear as something else. I see these modules being limited somewhat by the type of vessel they are mounted on and also by the scripts loaded into them.
For example:
~ A Coercer Class Destroyer might be able to make itself look like a Destroyer or a Cruiser of any class it has a script loaded for.
~ An Abaddon Class Battleship might be able to make itself look like a Battlecruiser or a Capital Ship of any class it has a script for.
The Size of vessel would make anything bigger or smaller than one class above or below impractical. The skill in the use of these modules would dictate the effectiveness of the module. I see this primarily affecting the outcome of D-scann and maybe extreme ranges on grid.
Furthermore, why should this be limited to on ship modules? I would propose the addition of Deception ECM drones.
~ Small Drones can be made to look like Frigates, and Destroyers ~ Medium Drones can be made to look like Cruisers and Battlecruisers ~ Large Drones can be made to look like Battleships and Capitals
Again skill level would dictate effectiveness and it would be an effect primarily targeted at D-scann and maybe extreme grid ranges.
Obviously there would need to be counters developed to balance this but I would be curious to see what you guys all think.

Sure, it could bring some interesting tactics to EVE. Remember, everyone, by using this, you'd be sacrificing tank, gank or your drone bay. |

I don't know. Having 10 Abbys and 5 Guardians land on grid when I was expecting a mixture of Prophecies and Feroxes would be pretty unappealing. The on grid application seems even more distressing - everyone turns their ship into Scimitars and you never know if you're primarying the logi or the bait prophecy.

I think the OP should go over some counters, as well as penalties for running the modules. |

As far as a counter goes I would say a single highslot module that expands the capabilities of the exist dscann process by:
Automating it Showing the percentage of accuracy for the readings it gives Projecting a 4 au sphere around the ship and showing the various sigs in relation to you
That would give you a range and skill dependent measurement of the reliability of the area around you and the ships and drones within the sphere.
I would high slot a mod like this because of its intel gathering power. I would also tie its accuracy not to just range or skill proficiency but Also to scan res of your ship. 'perfer et obdura; dolor hic tibi proderit olim'

Exactly! Supported.
Had you expected 10 Abbys and 5 Guardians, you'd never get to have the fight.
On grid too. Instead of kiting, you can just go in and have a closer look.

I suggest a massive stealth field
Which removes friendly fleet from D-scan.
I suggest radar scrambler.
Which gives wrong ship types and numbers of enemy fleet composition. |
