If you would stand before me and call this state of affairs in which we are held right and true, then I am sure that it is better for me and my men to fight and die without any right than to live in such a lie.
Karishal Muritor
The defining words of Karishal Muritor spoken after he and the thousands of men and women under him declared in one voice that they cannot sit idly by no longer. Not one of you who served under Muritor would speak ill of him, there are few who dare would even now. We all heard his stories as cadets before we even earnt our claws, our first commands, the great glory to serve under him and his quest to protect his people. The way in which he lived was an example to us all. The way in which he died sacrificing himself, a travesty to see. In one moment the veil was lifted and we saw in that moment what the Republic has become.
We all know that shadows draw closer, the borders pressed every day and there is few of us left day by day to fight for that we hold most precious, our families. The path was never easy, but it was never meant to be. The climbs to the highest peaks of Mikramurka, the challenge to proove adulthood reflect the challenges and trials we will face throughout our life. What will be asked of each and every one of you in the days that follow will ask more of you than your bodies can give. You will have to reach to spirits, to Muritor and his example to find the strength to hang on two seconds longer, and we will find the peak and the sacred stones that await us there.
But what Matar asks of you now, what Muritor asked of his men, what Maggot and the Ushra'Khan ask of me is a path into darkness and despair. To have the courage to stand, to walk the path, to hold aloft your sword and head and face the prospect that we may fall. But when we do, we will find our wings and fly with angels.
Millions of our people cry for us, in the darkness of despair they call out waiting for us, praying and hoping that they are heard. That the courageous will come, the chains of vitoc and iron broken and upon swift winds they are carried home. The Defiants, Ushra'Khan and Fimbulwinter. We stood, we charged the enemy and we broke their backs. For days their borders were wide open and in that moment we were able to free more people than ever before.
This is just a beginning, with you beside us we have a chance to bring so many home. The battles and wars will be bloody but we have this chance to declare our freedom. To fight on our feet for our children and bring them home. To end this for once and for all. Not perish on our knees as hollow as the peace Midular preaches.
In the days that follow, speak the story of Muritor and remember well his deeds. The actions of the men and women under him. See what Muritor and the Defiants achieved, look at the images of our colonies and the thousands of freed kin for the first time able to hope upon a hope for the future, to dream once more.
Walk with us my brothers and sisters of the Republic Fleet. Join us and this once, let us together bring our sons and daughters home. Freedom is there for all of us, if only you have the courage as Muritor did to stand and take it. To reach for it with all your might.
The choice is yours and it will not be easy, but no climb, no path that ever meant anything, that was ever the stuff of legend, ever is. Walk with Muritor, walk with us.
Give them back hope. Give them back Freedom.
For our people.
