I was sat thinking today and wondering, What are you most vivid memories of Eve?
I remember no tutorial, battleships that were like titans to behold, cruisers being huge, planet destroying behemoths that were to be truly feared. I remember being wasted by m0o in EC-P8R as I hunted in search of high end ore, ninja mining a single cycle at a time and running from 40k cruiser rats that struck fear into every player who saw them.
I remember no overview, and having to use the scanner with it's blinky lights to tell friend from foe. The half sphere blue radar, ultimately useless other than to orientate yourself roughly.
I remember the 15km run to a gate in curse with shaky hands as a Moa beat down heavy fire on my Caracal, screaming at the screen for the afterburner to run faster and the loss of my first cruiser, uninsured as I couldn't afford it.
I remember the ball of fire, the blue flash and watching in agony as it's hull dissolved into space, 4 kilometers from the gate. Rebuilding from scratch, with a brand new Caracal, feeling proud of the fact I'd taken such a beating and gotten back on my feet.
I remember my first kill, a Moa, while piloting my shiny Caracal, scourge heavy missiles detonating aganist it's hull in a cascade of bright light. The bastard wasn't laughing now. I felt the surge of fear on engagement, the adrenalyn at the thought of loss, then the rich feeling of triumph as his hull disintigrated and I laid waste to his capsule.
I remember the birth of my second face in eve, "Verone". The tutorial drone orbiting my Velator in the deadspace of Duripant, ready and eager to start again and pit my wits aganist Tranqulity. Taking my experiences in early 2004 and working to achive something.
Mining in a Thorax with 5 heavy drones as support to build my first battleship, while I protected Kaleeb from the belt rats in Ikami, and building him countless Caracal and Kestrel classes as he learned the game.
I remember boarding it, a Megathron, to the congratulations of my corp mates as they lined up outside while I undocked, then losing it in Akora and leaving my home in The Forge with a vision and drive to become something in Eve.
Joining SNIGG and my first ransom, a lone mining apocalypse in Obalyu V - Asteroid Belt 4, fifty million never made so easily in my life. My first wingman, Cetshwayo of SNIGG, a guy I still speak to today, three years on.
The launch of Exodus, the new mechanics, gameplay and ship classes thrown at me to explore.
I moved from Aridia, to Essence, to Lonetrek, Derelik, to Pureblind, Fade, Deklein, Scalding Pass, Curse, Catch, Khanid, Venal, Tenal, Tribute and many more, ransoming killing and doing it all with real friends, under one banner.
Then came Veto, my proudest moment in Eve as I paid the million ISK and put my name on the list as the founder of a real corporation of my own, banded together with several loyal and trustworthy likeminded friends. A slow start with tough times as the corp formed, but our small roster never giving up, eight of us declaring all out war on fifty member corporations, and bizzarely, winning.
After several months of highsec war, it was back to basics, Veto returned to outlawship. Our roster swelled to the point where I had to train more skills, applications flooded in... it was happening.
Cue the turn to Merc work after the siege of 9UY that saw FZN, EST, CCK, ATROX and VETO attract agression from eight alliances, over 10000 players set on our destruction.
Then came our friendship with the largest Mercenary alliance in Eve-Online, MC. My realisation of just how far Veto and I had come. Our contract aganist IAC for ISS which saw us flank the largest capital ship deployment in the history of Eve-Online.
And to current day, the formation of a training and trialling academy and the ingame alliance Veto Corp. A billion ISK raised as an ingame family to lay down the foundation for four words : Loyalty, Respect, Trust, Honor.
Our Life, Our Corp, Our Home...

After seeing all the complaining on these fourms about people's problems with the game, and their inability to comprehend just how groundbreaking the concept of Eve's unsharded world is. I thought I'd share a few things that Eve has given me over the years.
It's given me endless knowledge of human nature, and a deep insight to the working of the human mind.
It's helped me meet some of the finest people I've ever spoken to, It's made me learn infinitely more about the variety of cultures, traditions and customs that the countries of the world have, just by speaking to people and playing along side them
It's given me a thousand accents to listen to, and a million playstyles to adapt to, experiences and emotions I'll remember for the rest of my life, and given me the richest, deepest and most diverse virtual world in existance to explore and be a part of.
It's given me drive that I never knew I had, to the point of helping me out of game when times in real life got tough and I had the support of my corporation in Eve to help ease the pain.
Above all, it's shown me that no matter how hard the odds are stacked aganist me, if I want something badly enough here I can take it.
Finally, it's given me the knowledge that from speaking to so many people, from nothing in Eve, with a basic miner, a battered frigate and 1000 credits, a player, regardless of problems with game mechanics that have happened over the years, with enough determination and resolve can rise from obscurity to be a leader of a thousand man alliance, and turn the basic building blocks of the game into a huge superpower with infinite ingame dreams.
To the people who dispute this? You're not playing hard enough. To those who agree, enjoy your success as in Eve, it always comes before a great fall. How hard that fall is depends on how well you are prepared. I'm prepared for mine.
So I pose the question :
What has Eve given to you, and what experiences do you most vividly remember?
One thing remains, and call me a fanboy, but it deserves to be said.
After all the whining, problems, lag, patches, nerfs, boosts, testing, changes and balancing in Eve Online,
Thank you CCP, for the richest, most diverse, enjoyable and damn finest four years of my gaming life.
Roll on the ten year plan.

Having played in Beta as well I remember with vivid detail the blue sphere and the introduction of the overview etc.
So reading your post reminds me of a lot of eve history and good times.. thanks for that :)
A few things I remember distinctly that are a little more personal...
Running a m0o blockade in my thorax with dual MWDs... and making it! I remember no greater moment of fear when I came out of warp and saw two battleships blinking red and me having to go about 19km to the gate because it would randomly drop you a distance from the gate, ranging from 12 km to 40km.
I remember getting baited into being ganked by CONCORD by a griefer shooting a corp mates ore can very shortly after release when that didn't flag you. I lost my exequror...
I remember ninja mining bistot in fountain in a thorax because it could align faster to get away from the cruiser spawns. I also remember chain spawning them in the Pre-FA days lol.
I remember countless fleet fights against CA and now being a member of a different incarnation of CA still seems... odd.
I remember the day I said "screw it" and went pirate. Best decision I ever made. Signed up with Veto. Another incredible decision. Learned a TON about piracy and what it takes. Learned a lot about the character of the OP too and consequently I still hold a metric ****load of a respect for him. The only reason I left was because of a promise I made years ago to someone and I still miss my days in Veto.
I remember setting up manticore gangs and stealthbombing larger targets in a coordinated 1 volley.
Just a few of my memories.
However the biggest are four of my piracy kills.
The first I found a frieghter idling at a planet in low sec. Ransomed it for 800 mil. Easiest money I ever made.
Second, I had 30 minutes before work and I hopped on and went to a gate in low sec. Immediately found a hauler. Popped him at a gate. Ran off and came back for the loot only to find it full of officer and faction loot.
Third, it was my first day in Veto. and we went out to Amamake. Ganked an ISS Officer and Faction fit Scorpion.
Fourth, the same day, we were cruising low sec and a hauler got away from us at a gate. We chased it to the next gate only to have it drop a cyno field. Out popped a Pheonix. We tried to ransom it but he wouldn't pay the man ;)

I agree with all the above Verone.. I agree with all the ''old'' things, i agree with ''praising'' CCP for what they ''created''..
Really nice post mate... Very nice post... But you know what else i remember from when i started playing EvE 2 months before ''Exodus'' launched?
I remember there was no lag..
...
Almost 2 and a half years later...Im still playing cause i love this game.. But do something about the lag :) It has gotten better last couple of months, but it has in NO way reached the ''lag'' of pre-exodus EvE.

Details: I seen 3 sniggs on the scanner, and I knew they were campin a gate with a large bubble, thorax, maller, and cant remember what hac. I said 'eh what the hell' and said over ts 'we are all probably going to die, but its going to be fun as hell!'

I remember killing 2 raptors and a rifter who tried to 3v1 me in PF- @ Orvolle gate, me being in a punisher. ( Autocannon punisher w/ plates and rep = w00t! )

I remember sitting on the Orvolle gate in PF- and nearly gave up getting a target when a taranis jumped in and instantly ran at me, being in a punisher, and agro'd me. I popped his ranis and I popped his pod. He sent me a mail cursing me out and saying he was afk and didnt even get the chance to fight back, when like I just said, he jumped through and immediately attacked ...

Edited by: Izo Azlion on 06/02/2007 13:04:00 EVE's given me alot. For one, its given me friendships that have so far lasted over a year. Its given a massive diverse universe in which to crap myself as I jump into gate camps.
EVE gave me experiences working under huge alliances as a nobody, and its given me so much joy.
One moment in particular that stands out in my EVE career, and I'm not brown nosing, was joining Veto. Nearly 7 months ago I got accepted into Veto with a video that I put together, I saw Veto as a legendry Pirate corporation that people were honoured to join. I saw it as a fantastic thing and I dropped everything I was doing then to join after my month old application was accepted.
Then, on my third day in Veto I popped my first capital ship, a Phoenix. Amongst other battleships that night, it was my true induction into Veto. 7 months on, I'm a Director logging on every day to meet some of the greatest people I've had the pleasure to meet, in one of the greatest virtual worlds I've ever had the fortune to enjoy.
I've experienced being a scumbag, to a carebear, to a scumbag, and then to a paid scumbag. Its the one game that around a year ago I said to myself, "I can see me playing this for a long time."
The most important thing to me is Veto, and Piracy, and for now Mercing. I've been a Pirate at heart from day one, and despite all of EVE's problems, I believe CCP will always be there. EVE isnt a one hit wonder. Its here and its not going away, and I think every player should appriciate that.
<3 to Veto.

Too much to remember. But i used to like the old jip(jump in points). When you jumped in to a system there was acouple of places in the system that you would appear, not at the other side of the gate like it is today.
But I remember jumping into a2 and Haji waiting for me on the other side. He was in a megathron. I was in my brand new megathron, lasers fitted and all. I had to scream in local for help as he teared into my hull. Luckily some guys came to my aid and I got out in structure. But from that day on it changed my life in eve and shaped hwo I would spend the rest of my time.
Also before I got that mega. I rememebr all the time i had to put in to get a thorax only to fall asleep drunk and wake up in a pod. Think it happened 4 times. But I havent learned f all cause I still drink and fly

What a fabulous post, Verone!!
My first memories of Eve were joining up with Celtic Industries - My first player corp. My first 3 months were spent in a mammoth in 2004 hauling ore all the time. After so much hauling I needed to take a break and thought I would never return to the game.
I eventually came back after about 2 months and scrimped and saved to get my first Rupture. Celts were part of FOE and at war with the MC at that time and, after undocking from the station in my new fitted Rupture - I warped to the New Caldari gate and was pretty much instapopped by NSN. My first taste of pvp
I remember my first Empire war while in a corp called Demonic retribution and we managed to successfully ransom ravn666 for 10 mil Trit!!!
Then came the time to join Supremacy. This brought all sorts of fun and pew pew in the Curse region. It brought the siege of JV1V vs Xetic and RAT. Constant patrolling of the Curse pipe from HED-GP to LJ-VSW before moving on to the Northern War when The Five went up against PA and Co.
I remeber my application to FRICK and living down in Syndicate with the rest of Supremacy. NSN were on contract vs Goonfleet and Farjung came to probe out my Faction fitted CNR in U4. 30+ MC pilots hungry to pop this applicant as a welcome present :)
Thankfully that never happened!
I recall the night KIATolon had to babysit that same CNR when I warped to the station in U4 and forgot to press the dock button. I left the client running and that ship sat outside in 0.0 for 9 hours while a rotating group of BOS and Supremacy sat watching it!!
There was my first contract for FRICK against RA and the excitement of the first op as an MC member.
Then came my first participation in the Second Alliance Tournament and the sheer adrenaline pumping battles that took place. Anyone who says its not real pvp should see how much their hands shake after a fight! I know Seleene still dreams about that ASCN Eos
Then the opportunity to build the 4th Corp within the MC and watch how Eternity have developed from myself and my alt up to a 67 strong group of really great guys and our own Mothership BPO (no - you cant have one). Everyone of them is an asset to the MC.
Finally - my first fanfest and meeting some great people there. Chatting with devs, getting drunk and challenging Tyrrax to a 1 v 1 in his Impoc vrs my CNR. I would have lost horribly!!!
The game just keeps getting better and I hope to have many more memories as I intend to be here when the servers get switched off!
Thanks CCP and thanks Verone for the great thread.

I cant say I have seen what half of you veterans have seen, from EVEs birth, till today. But I know one thing: I love this game! That much I can tell you all!
The game aint perfect, but dam, its not far from being perfect! And for every publish. And for every patch. I see the game becoming better and better. With the additions I want and with the needed fixes!
All love and respect to the devs who have made this superb game! Continue the bloody good work!!!

I remember when battleships could swat a frigate doing 20+km/s from 200km away.
I remember when the Scorpion was a solo wtfpwnmobile.
I remember nicking a couple of thoraxes from my first corp to get some cash when I was an utter newbie

Edited by: DarkMatter on 06/02/2007 13:26:28 What I've learned from EVE, is like any other MMO. You only get out of it as much as you put into it...
If you don't have the time to play hardcore, you will never be hardcore, nor very important to the persistent universe.
What I remember from EVE?
1) Setec, hated him. 2) Space Invaders, hated them. 3) m0o, hated them. 4) First time I was pod-killed, Lianhaun got me trying to afk mine in and Indy in high sec during a war, lol... 5) Working with my corp (Infinicorp) to mine our asses off and get a corp MOA BPO. Getting my first MOA, was like the 3rd man in the corp to get one . 6) Losing my MOA NPC hunting in Venal . 7) The feeling that working together in EVE, you could accomplish anything. 8) The feeling that EVE was built for griefers. 9) Starting my forum warrior campaign against griefing. Never cared enough about a game to actually post on game forum site... 10) Realizing PVP isn't all bad, and joining a PVP corp that eventually got into CA. Realizing you can't make friends without TS and playing EVE as PvE only. 11) Loving large scale PvP engagements to death. 12) Hating lag due to large scale PvP engagements. 13) Setting up first 0.0 POS in Great Wildlands, that was a chore, but the experience was great. 14) CA->Keiretsu->LV Good fun being part of those alliances. 15) Hoping the DEV's can solve the lag issue. 16) Hoping my EVE-rut will end soon... 17) Realizing EVE is still the best MMO by far!

I remember only finding out how to train skills after two days. I had been trying to level up the skills by purchasing second, third, and fourth skillbooks for the skill i wanted to train and so on.
Also, mining in an imicus and hopping back and forth to station to unload it.
And ofc the whole magical time we all had in the early few months when nothing much was known and everyone was trying to find out what worked and what didn't. Much more exiting then now, when everything si predictable because youve already seen it.

Oh the game is much better. So many options to diversify gameplay and empower players now that we didn't have before.
But, that doesn't take away that teh sheer wonder at the huge freedom and space is lost after a certain while in Eve, and replaced with the immersion of political drama and getting **** done. I personally prefer the former, altho I'm not disliking teh latter either.

I remember my first day in EVE, a loong time ago, and after only 10 minutes I was hooked. I remember mining in my Tristan to afford my very first cruiser. I had two Miner II`s (bought them for a lot of money when those where expensive) and I mined for days. All of a sudden these random guys, one with an Apoc (!) offered to help me. I never thought I¦d meet such ncie guys in any online game. After about 1 week of mining, I finally bought my first Thorax. The feeling of undocking in it was so satisfying, such a rush!
I remember being in 0.0 for the first time, I felt totally free even though there were lots of bad guys out there. I had saved up for a Armageddon wich I used to mine my first 100 mil ISK.
I remember joining my first Pirate corp, who¦s members I still play with today. At that moment I had my first real kill, only about 1 hour after I joined. The rush was.. wow! I can still remember the rest of my kills later on in my new career, when my hands where shaking so much I couldn¦t hit the right target!
I remember undocking in a 0.9 system, and seeing Gunni from mo0 outside in an Apoc, and even though I knew I was "safe", my heart started beating like some techo song.
I remember being killed for the first time by Tank CEO and one of his corp mates. Darn those Jump in Points :D
...and lots of other memories! I dare to say that EVE is the best game out there at the moment; you can do whatever you want, and be good at it.

But, that doesn't take away that teh sheer wonder at the huge freedom and space is lost after a certain while in Eve, and replaced with the immersion of political drama and getting **** done. I personally prefer the former, altho I'm not disliking teh latter either.
I know what you mean. I remember vividly looking at my noobship and thinking OMG that ship is awsome. Raawwaarrr.

I remember clicking on a pretty banner to be directed here to EVE-online. I remember thinking its a cool game, but cost too much, esp since I wouldn't know anybody and have no friends here.
I remember feeling excited when I found a Uni friend also played.
I remember undocking for the first time in Duripant with my shiny new Velator and running through the tutorial.
I remember being impressed by the mining part of the tutorial with its detail, how the mining laser's light reflected off the asteroid. Nothing I had played previously came close to the sheer beauty of the universe arrayed before me. I remember gaping at the detail when an NPC ship exploded in a shower of light and debris, and how the trajectory of the debris was pointed in the same direction as the ship was previously traveling.
I still have those first few screenshots.
I remember thinking I was doing a public service by shooting one of the many cans littering the tutorial end room.
I remember getting insta-popped when I undocked immediately with the criminal countdown still active.
I remember having the brilliant idea of making an omgwtfpwnmobile out of my velator buy fitting 2 civilian blasters on it. I remember spending an hour traveling to an 0.4 system to get my velator killed so that I could loot a free civ blaster. I remember realizing I couldn't survive long enough in my new velator to loot my old one. I remember realizing after all the effort I not only didn't have enough powergrid to fit 2 civ blasters, but that I would never have enough, even if I trained Eng to 5.
Good times being a noob. Best time ever. Life was simple then.

My most public memory has to be when I flew my MKV down to to see the Crielere project being built, took me ages to get there in full hauling fit and then when I did arrive I tried flying through a construction ring and made a traffic jam..
I remember my first fight against a battleship, A megathron, me in a Vexor, my friend in a rail thorax. he forgot to keep his range and was promptly nuked by the mega. In a fit of rage at this person for killing my friend I roared in local and charged him. I died.
I remember when I was brand new, thinking of all the possibilities and ways the univerese could open up to me, all the things I was going to do and be known for and how much more difficult it all was back then.
I remember.. lots of things, friends lost, enemies made, deals broken, ships destroyed, wars fought, battles won and terrible losses.
I remember EVE and I think I will for a long time.

That's a very interesting point.
How long will we remember EVE after it's long gone, and this genre is long gone and replaced by something else?
Will I remember EVE as fondly as I remember playing Dune 2 on the Amiga 500? Or as fondly as playing Wing Commander, etc...
Also, how many life long friendships has this game created? Do other MMO's have the same effect? (I don't play any others, and I have no friends from EnB that I'm in contact with anymore)

I remember one thing most vividly...
At one week old, joining up with a friends corp that was part of ASCN a couple years ago, and living down into deep 0.0 for a couple months in just a frigate. I was scouting roid fields for rats for our small hit squad not realizing how truly crazy that was LOL.
Got scrubbed hard a few times but was fun. I have since lost my taste for 0.0, but it was fun once.

I remember buying a Kestrel and thinking 'bugger no turret slots'. I went and bought a Merlin while I trained missiles.
Got into the Kestrel sometime later and thought right time to toast something. I loaded all my launchers with FoFs to see what they did. I found some little rats at a gate in empire. I locked three arrogators and opened fire. Two missiles seem to collide and blow up on their way to the target.
One hit the target much to my relief, but I'll never forget the 'oh ****' feeling as the fourth veered towards the gate.
Seconds later I was sat in my pod thinking that would be the last time I used FoFs and to the best of my knowledge I never have since. /start sig I love old characters that post 'I've beeen playing the game three years' when I know their account has been sold on. /end sig |

I remember my first kill: A torpedo-firing blackbird in my thorax in Y9G-KS (Syndicate).
I also remember being killed by sentries together with my buddie, losing our fancy expensive cruisers, because we were fooling around.
I also remember being ransomed in my tristan at a jump-in point and getting blown up because I couldn't afford the ransom.
My memories are more bland after that, except for the EC-P8R camp with BoB and ASCN, that was pretty memorable too.

For me, its definitely the first day. The first time I undocked in my Ibis during the tutorial, looking out over Kisogo (along with a bunch of other n00bs) thinking "hoooooly ****" this is amazing.
Also, when I bought my first Merlin. I remember the "Exodus Trailer" where they show a Hawk flying around a warehouse. when I saw that I thought "Wow, that ship looks 1337, I gotta get it." Being the n00b that I was, when I bought said merlin, I thought it was the very ship from the trailer. I was so happy I even said in local "YAY IM NOT A N00B ANYMORE!"
Third memory is getting my first destroyer. Seeing it was bigger than a frigate, I was under the impression that it was a capital class ship. So I would fly around telling my friends i was in a dreadnought or the like. Oh was I wrong bout it being "capital" because it died the next morning :(

I remember Omber in 1.0 Space. Bistot and Ark near Elgoi. Ninja Mining Ark with a Probe in Empire Space. Moving the first time to low sec and thinking: "Nice the other pilot is a minmatar too" One second later I heard "beep beep beep..." lol Getting my first cruiser when cruisers were new after a few days of kernite mining and beeing proud to fly a Scythe. Being hunted be one pirate in High Sec ( not at war ), fleeing to a station, calling a friend in, and hunting the pirate. 10 mins later we were hunted by now three pirates. Concord ships destroyed by player pirates. MOo entering the system and all moving to the stations. Tank Ceo moving through the system, hunted by a lot of players. Moving out 20 jumps and more to an unclaimed 0.0 region and mining bistot. Then moving the ore back with a parked hauler. Ninja scouting the curse region, followed by a torp spamming enemy bs.
And a lot more.

Very cool thread.
what i remember, i think i joined as CCP beefed up the sentry guns after a notorious pirate gang took over a high sec system.
I can attest to what verone says as being true, i joined this game with no one but myself i mined in my noob frig till i could buy and imicus. I mined in that imicus till i could by a tristan to do lvl 1's in.
I remember finally reaching 1 mil isk and what an achievment it was.
finally the day came when i had enough to buy a vexor my first cruiser, and it was massive to me. i saved up enough to buy a thorax from a corpie in the noob corp and i've been hooked ever since, it was a screen shot of the rax that made me wanna try eve. now i have a bpo of it :p
I joined my first corp, lunar dawn. It was some of the best times in a game i had we had corp ops every weekend.
I remember mining in ewok with the corp and getting jumped by TankCEO he pop'd our ceo's raven and i managed to get a few torps his way but he warped out after 4 of us jumped in the fight.
I remember getting killed by a mOo gate camp in my first alliance.
I remember having our corp's name on the DG- station holding it for [5] during their fight with RA. It was great to say we had our own 0.0 station.
That being said shield boosting that station's shield i remember falling asleep outside the station and waking up to being shot at by some pirate (i didn't get killed).
goodtimes have been had, many more to come as well! ------FD------

Mmm i trip down memory lane ahh...
The most vivid experiences i remember...
1. My 1st pod death by the hands off my CEO in pvp practice, i discovered what a smart bombs where 1 2.Mining scordite 4 hours every night for 2 months to make some isk for advanced learning skills & a new cruiser. 3.Starting my own production corp, well i managed to enslave some carebears in a grand scheme to produce ships, well they produced my 1st BS, shortly after that i disbanded the corp 4.My 1st ransome of a mining barge in low sec, how my eyes light up when my wallet flashed with an easy 5 mil. 5.Being an ore thief before and after the can flag patch, ye that built me a few new BS 6. My hate mail collection, many fond memorys how i wished i kept them... 7. 0.0 and faction loot. 8. Leading my 1st fleet into battle a proud day.

I remember my first PvP loss and my first PvP kill:
Loss: Going upto Hakonen (sp?) near Taisy for a Caldari Navy Agent. Getting sent into a neighbouring system's belt (back when agent's did that) and asking the two -10's there if they'd help my Moa kill the mission spawn. Which they did do. Moments before killing me.
Kill: Mining in a 0.4 system with me in a Ferox and my alt in a hauler. Out of nowhere a Tristan appears and starts engaging my hauler. I get the Ferox to lock and send all my drones and two assault launchers (mining fit) after him. Guy doesn't realise he is being engaged and embarassingly goes pop.
Though I think the biggest thing is firing up the game for the first time, waking up in Todaki and thinking "my god, Jita is far away". Still today, after 2 years, only my alt has been to Rens, and only on a flying Visit. The whole South/East (Minmatar and beyond) is a complete mystery to me still.

I did that as well!
It seems so boring now but seriously, mining that veld in Duripant in my shiny mining ship ( I remember being so pleased that I had more than one ship- my other ship was my trusty Velator then once I'd made enough ISK I got really badly fitted mission running tristan) was one of the things that made me stick with EVE.
I also remember when I joined Murie. I'd literally just subscribed and then I got a mail from Onnen Mentar, the Murie CEO, inviting me to join the tribe. It took me a day or so to get mentally prepared to leave Duripant and Oursulaert and be escorted down to the tribe's HQ in 0.4. I had the impression that 0.4 was insanely remote and that I'd never be able to get back up to Oursulaert again.
Another thing I remember is looking at the skill requirements for a Hulk and saying to myself that I'd never, ever manage to train for one. 9 or so months later once I'd actually trained for it and bought one I was just incredibly happy that I'd achieved my long-term.
Thanks for an awesome post Verone. You've brought back loads of memories.

-Meeting Velsharoon when he was flying through Mies trying to flog some Harvester drones that Paniq had found ridiculously cheap on escrow. This chance meeting was really the turning point that set in motion the events which saw me finding my home in BNC.
-Mining in Outer Ring for my first battleship, a Scorpion, and promptly losing it to NPC's 3 days later.
-Heading across the map from Outer Ring to raid Curse and Blacklight passing out with autopilot set to HLW.
-Candy's vid of killing BL's Raven with a Berserker (he was passed out again). It has a great shot of a torp approaching the pod.
-Generally having a great laugh back in BNC's NORAD days, chatting s*** on TS while running around seeing how much trouble we could get ourselves into and then successfully back out of.
-RKK declaring war on CDI and the PA, the following mad scramble to convince the NORAD council to get involved, so we could be part of a proper war. If they hadn't had the balls to stand up and say "no more" there would be no BoB.
-EndersGame making possibly the longest distance ranson in history (he was 3 systems away).
Hmmm. All this reminiscing reminds me... BL, you still owe me a Scorpion...

I remember entering the game and seeing my friend's thorax fly by, thinking it must be one of the best ships in the game. I remember training skills my friend told me to instead of looking at what i wanted to do.
I remember scamming my first ceo (who was a douche) out of 3 million isk in order to buy my first blackbird. I remember thsi being the ebst descision of my eve career.
I remember hearing viceroy tell pirating tales in caldari chat and deciding there was nothing else I wanted to do. I remember meeting pojo, one of the ebst ceos I ever had, and joining him in a few wars where I learnt that size wasn't everything as jericho fraction frigates tore my first cruisers apart. I remember the joy I felt when I adopted their tactics myself and the kills started rolling in, and the thrill I got out of it. I remember joining curse alliance and realising the real isk was in 0.0.
I remember quiting and coming back with no isk at all, and earning it by pirating 0.0 gates in kestrels with by friend frost88. I remember taking on 8 frigs in the space of about 10 minutes when they came hunting for me. I remember anna k, who bought me my first battleship. I remember losing it the second day I had it, but first doing about 600mil of damage by smart bombing random frigs (back when smart bombs unfortunately destroyed cans).
I remember the venal rangers where I learnt more about pirating that anywhere else. I remember the attitude gogo yubari had which was automatically reflected in his members, one of self-confidence despite the odds.
I remember blood inquisition, the good times and the bad. And finally I remember PAK, the best corp I have flown with to date, and one that I regret is falling apart.

Though I'm not old school like most of you, I remember my first non-consent PvP. I had just purchased a shiny new Ares, which I thought was uber because it had 2 launcher hardpoints. After pwning a couple high sec belt rats, I decided that I wanted to find a more worthy foe. No, I wasn't going to PvP, I knew my 1 month old character was too young for that. I heard that tougher NPCs spawned in low sec belts, so I decided to give it a try. I found a nearby low sec system, and jumped in, and warped to a belt. While I was engaging some of the rats, I see a player warp in. Oh cool, I though, he flashes red. Wonder how he got that?
One shiny explosion later, LittleTerror opens a convo with me and tells me to pay 20 million or be podded. At this point, I was utterly confused. My clone only gost mere thousands of ISK, how in the world could this guy expect me to pay the ransom. I told LittleTerror to go ahead and pod me because I was "fully insured".
I woke up in my clone vat and discovered just how much money the destruction of a "fully insured" T2 ship will get me...
Anyways, I still have LittleTerror in my "friends" list, and have always dreamed of one day returning the favor. I have yet to do such.

It has given me so many moments of joy, of sadness, of terror, pain, clarity, drunken haze, of happiness, reflection, anger, contemplation, fear, bravery, deathwish, of ego, humility, hopelessness, victory, love, determination, of loss, indecisiveness, empathy, honor, truth, defeat, loyalty, of treachery, betrayal, deceit, of respect, devotion, reliability and trust.
For these moments I am grateful

Back in the day, things seemed easier.. yet harder.
My previous character before I created Palitir ran around in my lone frigate mining Ark in high-ish sec, running from anything, even players.. I was that paranoid.
I got a Thorax here after alot of ninja mining, running round trying to kill whatever I could.. but it never really worked out too well. Either me dead and back to ninja mining, or me running away. oh well, the adrenaline rush from that can never be repeated.
Following from those days I decided for a fresh start, Palitir came into the light. My first few days as Palitir I joined a Stain Alliance corp, to mine the good asteroids \o. The thing that amazed me the most was I got to see my first Megathron without having to run away from it in fear.
Slowly but surely I moved into a cruiser from mining low-ish minerals in low security space, my shiney new Thorax.. and my first (sustained) move into 0.0 happened (while also moving into a Fountain Alliance corp). Mining drones buzzing around, Mining lazers shooting out of my ship.. I was mining Ark once again, but this time deep in the core of fountain where I got my first PvP fights that I could actually engage in as I somewhat had a better grasp of fighting, and more isk to keep fighting.
Those were the days that the directors never gave out torps to you because they contained enough high end to fund yourself for a small time.
Another fond memory of my piloting was when I moved into my first battleship.. I remember the setup as clear as day, and my god it was terrible.. 1400's, Laser dmg mods and on a Megathron to boot. I still made that scorpian run that I was shooting. I miss the old ECM system, I shed a *tear* for it.
My first npc'ing in a battleship ended up in those evil NPC thoraxes shooting missiles and absolutely killing me outright.
I wish I could remember more things than that, but they seem to blur into one big thing. =========================

My most vivid memories are:
Shooting a drone in an asteriod field in my first cruiser (Exequror), and being chased around the system by Concord before docking.
Chaining barons in Thorax in S-U.
Undocking in an uninsured Dominix in YZ-LQL the day Evolution, Xanadu, OEC? came to take over Fountain and promptly losing it.
The day Shades, Slack Corp (my old corp), Stoners, Raptus Regaliter, et al created the JQA.
First day in Venal being chased by Evolution and then being welcomed to Oberon by Halseth.
My old pre-castor Scorpion with the manuverability of a cruiser.
Fleet fights in BKG and the conga - my Raven is the last in the line in postcard vid.
Taranis fights - still my favourite ship
A very long night followed with a defenseless egg sitting in 16p and a VC gang wandering Esoteria within a couple of jumps of it. We had seen what ASCN were up to and brought forward plans to build our Outpost to the next downtime. Unfortunately the tower we had put up in WX was not claiming sovereignty so we put it up in 16p where Adeptus gattacus were claiming sovereignty. :)

I remember seeing my first bs after about a week in game, i stared at it for about a half hour and had a nice chat with the owner.
I remember mining for my first cruiser, a several weeklong affair. That was the last time i mined.
I remember running escort missions in my caracal towards saving for my bs (at the time, they were big. really big)
I remember losing my first bs to a gatecamp in delve after attempting to rat in 0.0 (This was shortler before there was any BS rats in 0.0 at all, if i remember)
I remember going pirate. The thrill of the kill and rush of the chase nearly gave me a heart attack the first few times. One of my best (and first) fights ever was my maller verse a ferox(2 days after battlecruisers were released i think) It ended up in a tie, neither of us breaking each others tank.
I remember my pirating spree in molden heath, i was averaging 2 battleship kills a day. Namtz kept trying to assasinate me and trap me, a few times they succeeded, sometimes they had me right where they wanted me and i still butchered them.
I remember when i got t2 large guns, the thrill of hitting for 600 + a hit was enormous.
And as of late, i remember buying my carrier. ---------------------------

I remember getting ganked by Moo in A0-(Querious) with my corpmate - us getting the great idea to go and "mine" (the kind that go boom!) the exit point of their closest office HQ. We loaded up haulers with the mines and then spent over an hour just dropping mines out of the hauler at the exit point of the station. Literally we dropped 1000 mines around the enterance of the station.
One of Moo's players (I forget who now it has been so long) undocked in his Dominix while we were sitting there watching. The mines blew up like crazy and took out his ship and pod. We giggled hysterically on team speak - then we were insta ganked by the Khanid Navy at the gate for now having a -9 security rating due to the sec loss of "attacking" in a 0.4 sec system.
Took a large chunk of my isk to "pay" my agent to fix my secuirty status and stop noobs from calling me a pirate in empire.
These features sadly were nerfed in the next patch and have never come back to the game.......... |

I will ALWAYS, ALWAYS remember my first PvP kill. I was maybe 2 months old. In a pimping Caracal, part of Imperium. I wanted to see what this pvp fuss was about so I flew down to YZ-LQL. I sat at the gate leading towards Outer Ring and waited, and waited. Eventually two interceptors, a Claw and Crow if I remember right attacked me. They got into web range and it was all over in less then 30 seconds.I was ELATED, I was told it took months upon months to get into Interceptors and I just killed two of them in a cruiser! Then alot of stuff warped in on me like 10 minutes later and super ganked me :(. My first video!

Very nice post mate. With all the gripes and moans and incredibly boring slanderous political rubbish going on elsewhere it's refreshing to read something positive.
As for remembering things... well I'm kinda new so I probably don't remember much of direct importance. I do remember the quiet squeak of fear as I first undocked my Ibis and floated about randomly.
I certainly remember being ganked by Cereal Killerz in my oh-so-poorly fitted Scorpion (shield+armor tank, torps and some autocannons) whilst ratting in 0.4.
Congrats to Veto, I've always thought you guys were pretty awesome; certainly one of my first eve-memories was one of your films which made me start tinkering with Adobe Premiere.

I remember Omber in 1.0 Caldari starter systems a mining solid for my whole first week of play just to get a better ship (this week intensive mining is one of the things that resulted in me quitting for about a year 3 months into launch)
I remember Gneiss in 0.6 Caldari space and having to ninja mine it because the rats were soooooo hard
I remember finally working out that the old roid scanner didn't really refresh the view (it just updated it) after wondering for ages why that Gneiss roid showing on the scanner wasn't there!
I remember static loot cans at various stellar objects (gates, wrecks, hollow roids etc) and NPC's guarding them
I remember flying a Merlin with an arty's and laser on it

Edited by: Smagd on 07/02/2007 11:17:38 All right, I'll have a go then.
I remember visiting Randuin Maral and watching him play EvE four hours away from where I live, till almost two years later I upgraded my own PC to EVE specs.
I remember Zoral Qu zapping my Rifter in a random low sec while looting juicy jetcans near a gate. Then I warped away my pod, but couldn't remember which gate I'd come from so gambled on it being another one than the autopilot wanted me to use to get back. Well uh, of course it wasn't. I learned about insuring my clone that day.
I remember tailing the Xetic leaders in a cloud of two hundred ships during their inauguration speech in my reporter shuttle, and getting bumped away by their fleet commander.
I remember a help call from a corp mate from Rens, so we went over there in our three best ships, two Cyclones and a Prophecy and staring at a battleship rat 150 kms from the Ryddinjorn gate. The corp mate had tried out a level 4 agent and neglected to inform us of that fact. We warped out many a time, but eventually we gnawed down the battleship rat. Then two more spawned on top of us. Since each warp out brought the rats a couple kms closer to the gate, they eventually began camping the gate and in the end, UK Corp lost a ship and roused a mob to kill them.
I remember watching Ugluuk duel a Sacrilege in a Moa outside Rens Brutor Tribe Bureau before I knowing him from his vids, and holding steady until a Prophecy came in. I was so upset about the cheat I bought Ugluuk a new Moa.
I remember complimenting Doc Brown on the nice black Megathron he was flying through my home system Sasta in local, and then I got a convo from him and he told me where he got it, and what a Federate Issue Megathron was, and that he was bringing it to the market. To this day I regret not having a screenshot of that.
I remember winning a Caracal on DJ Storas Radio Roulette.
I remember my first solo level 3, in Cyclone with no active hardeners against a Duo of Death in Salashayama. Took me 5 hours over a downtime. I was mildly upset when the first battleship reappeared, but I could scratch 10% hull from it at each warp so I eventually wore then down. That Cyclone is one of the few combat ships that never died.
I remember the first time I ran five battleship builds at the same time, and then hiring an Obelisk to ship nineteen battleships to a market. I remember carrying around a Scrapmetal Reprocessing Skillbook for over a year till I could skill it.
I remember sneaking an hour of EVE time while I had visitors to watch my Corp erect their first POS. One of my visitors later painted an EVE oil painting.
I remember joining "Deveraux's Bar & Lounge" because I recognized that name from the Wing Commander games, and by that time I knew both Ikvar and Verone from their PR work and was utterly stunned to see them both sitting inside. I remember helping find Siren Shiva by checking all the names in local in a whole Region.
I remember having a party on Unity station in 9UY with INNOMINATE NIGHTMARE floating over it in my space suit and doing a "flying by falling down and missing the ground" impression, and I remember fixing my Amarr standing and going to Amarr to mine Veldspar for Chribba.
I remember bringing my first Tempest through low sec Derelik for my first POS gank, and, seeing two pirates near a gate managing to warp to the first best thing I could click, and while sorting the bookmark I dropped during warp a POS half-heartedly started shooting me, since I'd warped to a moon. I survived.
I remember jumping a Scorpion into a 20+ pirate camp in Aedald, and making it into warp before they could scramble me. Bless Minmatar jump gates.
I remember attacking a level 3 mission in a Hound, warping too close, getting ganked and buying a Thrasher with fittings from the local market and exerting bloody revenge in less than 30 minutes.
Well, huh. I could keep going for hours I guess.

I remember being in Cornexant when they built the first ever Scorp battleship, then taking it to fight m0o and lossing it.
I remember when Armageddons with full rack of 250 Protos and damamged mods would destroy anything in seconds.
You could activate MWD whilst comming out of warp to keep max speed. Only way to try and get past the m0o gate camps
Guristas Ascribers was the most wanted NPC spawn
250 Proto was the best weapon

i remember getting podkilled on my first day twice in sarum prime
i remember spending 2 days to get my standing with my agent up just to waste in in 20 secs by killing convoys for the loot outside his station (rinse and repeat for 2 weeks)
i remember being threatend with 'death and damnation' by PIE for killing those amarr convoys.
i remember joining PIE when i almost wanted to quit.
i remember being told you could swap crystals in space and being laughed at for my noobness.
i remember making VERY good friends with the amarr AND minmatar RPers.
i remember my first battleship, Golan gave it to me
i remember when amarr to pator was 2 jumps and the fun we had with all day pvp in those 3 systems
i remember meeting you Verone and it was a good day and many more since
i remember lots of lost ships and drunk flying, being escorted back to my homesystem by war targets as they would not fight me drunk (thanks for that guys)
i remember when CVA was still inofficial before you could form alliances.
i remember many a happy day i had in EVE because it is a great game and because i got to know great people!

Jumping into a new system but instead of loading at a gate, it was a certain spot in space instead
Seeing a battleship (Armageddon) for the first time with me sitting next to it in a shuttle thinking it was huge (no look at option back then)
Showing eve off to a friend, was in my osprey and wanted to show some missiles which i had just gotten the skills for so i shot this thing called concord, turns out they were the police and i quickly died with friend laughing at me

Edited by: Kaeten on 07/02/2007 13:13:01 I remember, station ping pong that lasted for weeks until fleets met in 1 massive battle (100-150peeps) to decide who would rule.
I remember space being so empty.
I remember chokehold systems you could never get around.
I remember mining in a thorax and getting blown up by a pirate.
I remember undocking in my first battleship, megathron(still have pictures).
I remember when belt piracy was a profession that pirates hounered.
I remember an eve without the day to day scammings and backstabbing.
I remember an eve where solo flying was an option.
I remember being a noob, picking up so much different loot and saying,"I wonder what you use this for?".
I remember when m0o was the feared people in eve.
I remember the massive alliance wars that would never stop.
I remember living in tpar-g alongside the rest of the population down there, having fun, mining, living in the moment with not a care in the world.
I remember starting my char not realising that charisma did nothing, I started with 11 BASE.
I remember being annoyed that real guns took ammo to shoot after switching from my civilian guns.
I remember doing missions in my veletor thinking,"I'm a space pilot! zooooom".
I remember thinking that there is more to eve than pvp...
I remember the old skool *Member of CFS* Alliance tags in bios.

I remember concord being something you could run from or even fight.
I remember 1 million being a lot of isk to me.
I remember thinking ships really needed bigger cargos as I attempted to fit every single range type of ammo in my cargo.
I remember joining veto thinking verone might be cool but being very disapointed (sorry had to slip it in there)
I remember arbalest siege launchers selling for like 40mil and modulated tachyons getting swapped for battleships.
I remember drones not having tracking and being the bane of all frigs.
I remember flying in curse fleets in a cavalry raven (think nano but better) and destroying fleets twice our size, ussually losing only a couple ships.
I remember my first out numbered fight, my self, frost88 and yuki li (blackbird, breacher, breacher) vs 6 pilots (4 ruptures 2 rifters) and killing them all without a single loss.
I remember when to be honest, people were a lot politer (probably to do with the fact a lot more peple fought due to flying mostly t1 setups, and not knowing who could kick your arse because everyone was more or less the same age)
I remember in game age actually being significant to me as even a two month older character could massively out skill me. and I remember being very proud of my 1 mil missile SP

I'm pretty new, but for memorable moments:
1) Getting into my first Crane. A hauler that flies like a cruiser! With a missile launcher! Hey, I wonder if I can use it as a Q-ship?
2) Blowing up my first mining barge ... in my Crane. Rapidly followed by my first cruiser kill ... in my Crane.
3) Losing my first Crane ... to a BattleBadger II who set me up, outsmarted me, and used my greed against me.
4) Getting away clean in a Bustard with 40,000 cubic meters of omber that, as the man says in Red Dragon, "I had not cultivated."
5) Looting a low-grade crystal implant from a can somebody else couldn't be bothered to loot.
6) And, yes, losing my first Caracal, and getting podded for the first and only time, while trying to meet up with some friends in a .4 system to run a complex. I have a short list, and Swiftness is on it.

I remember fighting fugazii's Cruise Rifter in my Torp Bellicose, it was a stalemate, but was a fun fight. I was ActiveX back then.
My first Battleship was a Tempest, forged in the ashes of a corp that started out as carebears and came out killers. Ended up selling that Tempest and buying a Typhoon, which was later lost by Dae'Shara in Reavers (a corp I still own despite attempts to buy it).
I remember losing a Torp Rupture to Sneaky Magik Inc that happened right as I docked, I ended up keeping the Rupture, but lost all the 'destroyed items'.
I remember my 10 MN Rifter that got insta wrecking popped by a 1400mm Scout at a range of 14 km in a perfect orbit.
I remember my first jaunt into 0.0 in an mwd Stabber. Ran a CA blockade and two SA blockades, never coming out of either with more than shield damage. I passed through NOL and AZN, neither of which had anyone or anything in them except rocks I couldnt mine.
I remember when Interceptors were expensive and new and the only t2 ships you could get and there weren't any t2 weapons.
About 3 monthes ago I went onto a character that I had made 2 years prior, and looked at the Maller I had on it...was using the best named gear, and some stuff that is embarassing to admit I fit...it was a screenshot at the past really.
I miss the old missiles, missile boats should have been changed, not missiles. _________________________ ~Thor Xian, Material Defender

1) Cruise kessies - warp to a2 gate in a maller at 80 to check ****z out and have half the CA gate in aforementioned kessie's on my butt in a heartbeat. My pod got away :) That was my first nonconsensual pvp engagement.
2) Discovering that I didn't have to leave the computer on and logged into Eve in order to continue training :D My wife was like "WHY is your computer on with this strange music coming out of it" when she got up the morning after the first day I was playing Eve. I learned of "daily downtime" at that point as well.
3) Building and selling my first BS and subsequently making my first billion from doing that.
4) Too many fights to remember where I actually structure tanked.
5) Picking up my first dread in Torrinos. It cost me 3 bil just for the ship!
6) Killing a whole bunch of BS and support with said dread in Teshkat. People in local saying "wtf, I though dreads weren't supposed to be able to do that!11!!" Caldari 4tw!
7) Being disappointed with the "size" of my first carrier, a chimera. "Dude, half of it is missing!"
8) Hitting the "board ship" button for my Wyvern as the Infinite Probability guys from D2 *****ed jokes about me wanting them "to hurry up and gimme my ship" :D <3 Phoenix Pryde and that crew!
9) Lastly and most importantly, the general sense I get that CCP understands the value of diversity and uniqueness in Eve. From the idea that you should be able to train whilst offline to the idea that not every ship HAS to be warp scrambleable, they seem to hold dear the ideal that "different is better" and leave it to the players to "solve the unsolveable!"

Another memorable moment was seeing lord Zap mining in an apoc in 0.7 space ... that is something i will never forget.

This is a story to laugh with.
This story happened when the corps/players were starting to get into battleships.
Through shrewed planning and looking at eve trends we managed to purchase a scorpion BPO for 700ish million and proceeded to make 3 billion from it in the following 6 months. Back then there was no licensing and in fact when we got the BPO it was 1 week from the licensing patch but every copy job put on before the patch stayed as unlimited copies. One corp mate absent mindedly put the BPO on a 20 run copy.
0 ME and they sold for 200-250mil a peice.
And we didnt have the 700mil then, we had 500mil so we asked for a loan from....
XirtamVOTF
Me old budy/pal. I think we both came out of that one one top.
But i digrees.
Before we did this i purchased a tempest battle ship from the NPC's which i think was 300mil back them. This used all the corps isk at the time.
The day i got it i ran as a pirate npc agro controller so some one else could mine arc and bist. Thing was it was also 5am for me and silly ole me staying up to late from the excitment of owning the tempest.
Back them rat spawns could take a few hours to spawn. It was quite boring, my computer is in my room. Maybe i could just turn my monitor around and lye in bed, im sure ill hear if i get agro from a spawn.
I woke up with 10% hull and managed to warp out at 4%.

Edited by: The Justicar on 08/02/2007 00:12:26 Back in the days of CFS and CA and shortly after a war between them ended I got podkilled somewhere in Khanid while rat hunting.
That was not the problem. :-)
The problem was that before we joined CFS we had our first 0.0 base somewhere in catch - but left that months before when CA was formed and we decided to join CFS and moved to Querious (though that wasn't it's name at the time :-) ).
The real problem was that I had forgot to move my clone contract - so I was suddenly back in Catch many many jumps from home in the territory of an alliance that recently had a war with the one I was a member of (back when member of an alliance meant writing that in your bio :-) ). And the peace treaty mutualy forbid to fly into the other alliances territory.
In addition that stupid station had no medical services - so I sat in potentialy hostile territory, dozens of jumps away from any help and 2 jumps from a station where I could buy a decent clone.
I talked to a couple of CA guys in local to get a diplomatic contact. I explained the situation, convinced him that I wasn't spying or aggroing and not only got an escort to the next clone station but also free passage all the way back.
A couple of CA pilots had not listened to the CA channel and started firing at me when I was almost home - but my escort managed to stop them and I made it back safe with only a few scratches on my armor.
Another time we had an ice harvesting op going and a battleship warped in the middle and started killing us with multiple large smart bombs. We lost an indu and 2-3 Retrievers - he lost his battleship to 1 Battlecruiser and our fleet of barge drones - and it was a Hammerhead I drone that is on the killmail as delivering the killing blow. :-)
Anecdote 3 is the most recent - a few months ago - while in Syndicate I logged off. When I logged in 2 hours later a couple of my corp mates had participated in a combined fleet op of 3FA + Goonswarm to bring down that famoues mothership that was supposed to be hunted by an official posse that was being assembled a region away. That bunch of pilots was still busy preparing for the hunt for that Nyx and looking very much forward to the large promised bounty and was so angry about the news that the pirated Nyx was already taken care of that they attcked the concord ships instead. :-)
Very bad timing for a 2 hour break. ;-)

Fabulous thread Verone. I havent been around for as long as a lot of you guys, but I have some pretty good memories as well.
I remember sitting in nakugaurd mining veld getting to know the people Id play this game with for the next year plus.
I remeber getting ganked by Ginger in Hag like 3 times in one day, and not knowing what the heck had even happened. I also remember our corp ganking him back a month or two later :)
I remeber our corps first taste of alliance life, and tangle with serious mercs (Thanks CONIN :? )
I remember taking 2 freighters full of all our corps stuff out to Paragon soul, only to have to run those same freighters back through BoB lines 4 times (and getting away with it!)
I remember the first time seeing a Titan, Shrike warping his into the gate in H8-, Chronx saying something like 'Theres the Titan', someone saying we have a few seconds before the DD can go off, and then all of a sudden it going off (they locked the gate), and still getting out in once piece! (Thanks Chronx :-P)
I remember the dwindling numbers in AZN as the war started to fall apart for ASCN
I remember wanting to be a little part of the big picture of EVE, and I remember getting to do just that.

As a relative newcomer to EVE, I always thought your reputation was a suit you didn't quite fit into. That, however, was a mighty post.
The things I love / remember most about EVE:
ò Finding a great wingman and learning to trust him. Having someone you can fly beside and you know exactly what they are going to do and knowing they are always there to back you up. Working as a well oiled machine. Never having lost a ship, while flying together, for over a year. Getting used to talking about 'my wingman' IRL and not getting embarrassed about it.
ò Being a name (albeit small) that people run from and know / respect / really, really hate.
ò The first time I killed a HAC.
ò The first time I lost a HAC.
ò The POS ganking.
ò Flying with tiller.
ò Our little baby pirates. (Neal hurry up and finish your thesis).
ò Rogue Roy and R42 (VHI don't quite make it but Druidzel does by default.)
ò After a break realising that I need to come back to EVE as it really is the best thing on the net.

There were no loyalty points, only "important missions" every 30 or 40 missions (can't remember). In those important missions you could get a basic +3 implant, which costed around 60-70mil at the time and it was all the rage (I'm talking autumn 2003 here).
Later, after Castor, people would start running lvl3 kill missions and amass lots and lots of basic perception implants, consequently crashing the prices. I made quite a bit of isk speculating on those.
Edit: People were also asking ALOT of questions on the forums about what it took to get an expanded cargohold I bpo from your agent.

(I didnt even know what podded ment back then). I then earned enough isk to purchase a slasher..man was I cool lol.
I remember my first mining op and being so surprised at how much money I made from selling the minerals, (from in station I didnt even know about how buy orders really worked back then). I also got enough isk to get a scythe from that :)
Ninja mining in the scythe in hi sector to protect my ore from ore thieves.

My first kestrel to be popped after joining spectre syndicate by a cruise firing crow =P
The guys i met in spectre and in teh ca (well some of htem anyway =) ) which to this day i believe to be some of the best i've ever had the opportunity to fly with.
I remember the fleet battle of U-QVWD (and not being podded there still trying to figure that out) which is probably the largest fleet battle in eve ever and definatly the biggest i've ever been part of.
I remember the old overview which was almost non-existant and the blue scanner. The old GUI in general...
I remember my first real empire piracy experiance went out in my caracal and laid waste to another cara and a crow.
I remember the thrill of real combat in the old days where tactics for gate camps meant something. Which reminds me of the 50+ jumps i made to 0-g in curse with a badger mark 2 taking everything i owned bpo's and all to the station there evading SA camps thank god for uh... well either dumb luck or a crappy camp
I remember the mine's i used to drop everywhere and spam mining belts with then dock renaming some of them veldspar and such (did that with missiles to). And i remember one day i forgot about 1 mine i left and im flying around and get concordockened cus of it =)
I don't remember ever having positive sec though =P But i do remember the 4+ month grind to fix it when i got stuck in a dead end .3 system....
I remember reading the instruction book ;)
too much to type so ill leave it at that...
cheers verone =D
had to add this =)
I remember almost being ganked by Digital Communist and its a day ill never forget ;)
BTW:: theres only 2 maybe 3 corpses of mine floating around out there that are real and not self poddings if anyone has them ill buy em back for 1mil each =) And considering the mods you got from me at the time thats a nice bonus ---------------------------------------- "Mercinaries never die, we just go to hell to regroup." -xOm3gAx '99

I remember my first time in Syndicate, where I hopelessly followed 2 experienced corpmates Irishranger and Sanchezdecastro to k5 jrd.
I remember my first corp mining op 2 days into the game where I warped into a belt to grab ore in Pelille only to see 4 outlaws blasting everybody else to bits.
I remember my first pirating experience and how that changed my perspective of pvp.
The second time I went into Syndicate was with a bs/cruiser gang where we jumped into pf-346. There were 2 crows on the fdj gate so i uncloaked in my vexor and sent my 5 tech2 acolytes on one of the crows only to **** the op up because a bigger enemy bs gang jumped us and killed everybody.

My favourite days in eve...
2 days into the game and asking a guy how he was able to name all his drones separately took me hours of trying till i asked and found out they were actually called warriors, hobgoblins etc etc
1 week into the game in 0.2 sec... undock in an incursus and challenged a dominix not knowing what it was ... the pirate 'Eightbit' laughed so hard we became pretty good mates

i remember the last day of beta where they gave everyone all skills at lvl5... which woulda been cool if there wasn't so much lag you couldn't even undock :) (that was my first time in a Tempest)
I remeber ninja mining in curse with my first corp in release Dragonstar. would have someone in a cruiser go in first, then we'd warp in, mine as long as we could then warp to a planet. Don't think we knew about ss's then :)
Remember running outta curse in a rifter filled with zyd... and being pop'd along the way.
I remember a corp mate quitting after getting ganked by pirates. He had found a trade route that made him like... 20m at a time, but got pop'ed on the way home and lost all his money... so he left the game. Still have him in buddylist incase he ever comes back :)
I remember my CEO going awol for 2 months after telling us she was going in for surgery... didn't hear from her till about 4months ago... lol
Formed Union of Eve with beta friends. Then THAT ceo lent his account to a friend without telling us, so I took over the corp :)
I had to quit for about 6months when i went to my first college. (they blocked ports and i didn't know how to get around that at the time :( ) When i left the Rifter was THE ship to fly. And Thorax's were THE cruiser. There were no battleships at that time... then came back, and EVERYONE had them... hell, most of my corpmates had 2 :)
I remember my first battleship. Was a dominix.
I remember the frist person to kill me. was h4x0 or h4xo. can't remember exactly.
I remember my first kill. Was back when ya jammed someone by having more sensor stregnth on them. 3wn would stop any ammar bs. First kill was the CEO of Pie at the time. Still have that killmail.
I remember joining up with FU2 and being apart of the PROM. People republic of Matar. Then we all joined up as Ushra'Khan. Still have no idea what that means :)
i remember the reaction i got from friends when i told them i had just gotten engaged... and the support from them when i was trying to win a 10k gift card for our wedding... we didn't win though... i swear that the person who DID musta shown some skin or somethin...
but ya... this is the best and most addictive game i have ever played. Coming up on 4 years now sense release... and i don't see it stopping any tme soon.

Edited by: Trypho on 17/02/2007 08:46:36 I still remember alot of awesome moments in EVE, but these are the coolest of them:
I remember my first journeys into 0.0 (they failed - didn`t know about bubbles back then ), and the guy that attacked my Megathron in a Claw - he forgot Gallente carries drones I remember my 1st solo piracy kill in a cruiser vs. a battlecruiser, and getting smacked by the victim in local (I should print it out, put it in a frame and hang it above my bed actually...) I remember how hard the ASCN-BOB war was, and how much I sucked at being a FC. I remember seeing the BOB-titan for the first time, and the scary sound it makes when the DD activates I remember alot of the awesome fights you see in DaMiGe`s new video.
Conclusion: this game might be the one and only MMO I`ll be playing for a very long time, it keeps getting better and better, and never stops to surprise/amaze me.
Who would have thought 2 Titans would die within 24 hrs a month ago? Exactly

Eve is an amazing concept, but somehow a lot of people manage to only see its flaws. You get back what you put into this universe.
I dont have that many stories to share myself since Im making real life a priority, but its very nice to read about everyone else's memories and successes in the game. Some day I will have the time to truly play this game the way it deserves. --- Eve Wiki | Eve Tribune |

I remember my first day. My roomate convinced me to play the game, giving me a free trial. He also gave me a free fit incursus, telling me, train to use all the modules on the ship. He also gave me basic fitting rules to go by. Also forced me to do the entire tutorial D:! Which sucked while doing it, but deffinetly helped. He told me I was lucky to have a tutorial at all :P I didn't expect to keep playing, did not like the idea of monthly payments for a game. I guess I got sucked in :E
I deffinitely remember my first venture into slowsec, I was in Groothese, in a vexor. I was semi afk at a planet, watching my roomate fitting his megathron, and a blaster harpy warps to my planet and starts shooting me. I come back to my computer, and slowly pick him apart. My first victory \o/
The next kill I get, an ishkur in Decon, I was in my vexor again, made me decide to use my alt for pvp. I put that character into Decon, and began the killing! My first solo kill was a tristan, while I was in a griffin. I played for a month or so with no training on the character, 72k sp.
This is when I broke down, moved the character to a new account :E, and begain the training. From this emerged my pirate character, Pumpkin Bread. This is also when I met my good buddy. Together we became the bane of those existence who entered Decon.
As my pirate character developed, so did my friends, and an enemy. FXI. Fatalix Inc. came to decon to "free it of pirates". I would not have it. In the following few months we had quite the rivalry. My buddies and I would deal with the large group of FXI peeps ourselves, and despite all their efforts, they were never able to stop our piracy :]
My main character, Good Sir, Moved to LFC, I wanted a taste of 0.0 This was deffinetly a fun time. Biggest memory by far being in 3fa was the JH-M2W battle on the PC9-AY gate. 50 3fa'ers Vs. a similar number of Galactic Aurora and Black Reign Syndicate peeps. Epic fight for us, the first and biggest fleet battle I was ever in, and it had capital ships too. We took down a thanatos and revelation of theirs. Amazing fight.
I made my own corp, Death of Virtue, with my buddies. This corp operated with some new found friends.
Now I have some bigger plans for my corp, but things are still in the works. Cannot wait for that to move forward.

I remember RKK camping ec-p, Sun ra's scorpion antics made me want to train for EW boats.
The first time I saw a large grouping of battleships it was a NSN fleet back when they were PA they were Megathron heavy and they all came sliding out of warp at the same time not 5km from me. Bear in mind cruisers were what I was looking up to at the time.
I remember an argument on grammar in amsen local, If you're going to claim to be an english teacher don't spell it grammer, the other guy recruited me into the first of 2 corps I've been in, that was 3 days in and I was with them for 3 years.
Naming my first ships night fire(bantam), night with(merlin), night wraith(kestrel) Night wraith and night fire are docked alongside night witch VI.
Upgrading to a thorax(Eithne) at the same time as 2 others in corp and flying about as a group just for the aesthetics for hours, getting newbies into our system then getting the 3 cruisers behind them then saying "look behind you" The first time the miner II's on said thorax popped a roid. Being attacked by a kestrel in low sec in the same thorax while mining and answering the ransom demand with 5 heavy drones. Eithne IV has been docked for 2 years now must dust her off.
Whene I heard the rumble of battleship engines when I started to accelerate out of dock for the first time in a megathron(Akagi), prior to that I spent a few mins in dock spining the camera around her in appreciation. Akagi was lost to m0o in venal.
Dropping cloak and charging down a gankageddon in a blaster thron specificly setup to tank lasers, Won that one in structure.
Getting the crap beat out of me by guristas back when they spewed missiles at the same rate players did(well a little slower)
When I'd finishedtraining for MWD's fitting a dual MWD punisher and going to look for the ruin that I had seen on the scanner in amsen and then giving the bookmark to newbies every tiem i was nearby.
Hunting lone interceptors in a buzzard with 2 jammers before jamming was changed to a chance based system, It was hediously unfair but the opertunity for manical laughter while approaching target was second to none.
Traveling to a .3 system I've forgotten the name of in a badger alongside a pair of apocs with mining setups with the intention of mining, only to have the local pirate in a scorpion turn up, then some guy claiming to have been contracted by some "large" pirate groups to clear the system so they could have a meeting . Local scorpion pilot told him to go screw, A corp mate who was nearby coming in a MOA and bluffing his way into convincing people not to mess with him and let us leave peaceably. We were so very new back then.

My EVE memmories. Mate showed me the EVE-o site befor it hitt beta.. Signed up for beta around easter 2003.
I remember when they introdused autopilote and you had to type /autopilote in a chatt to activate it.. and next patch we got that red buttn you could press to turn it on or off..
I remember the first battleshipp i saw.. a Raven following that for 5 systems til he docked..
I remember mining in my bantam, dreaming of better shipps to mine in.
I remember when i first signed up for eve after it went live early 2004, flying around in a kestrel with heavy missiles.. npc hunting in lovsec (I never managed to gett the skills for cruise untill they changed that feature)
I remember joining my first corp, mining for hours to end.. meeting my first EVE buddie, wich i still have contact with to day.
I remember our lovsec mining op getting jumped by 3 pirates.. a raven and 2 BB's, trying to heroicaly talk my corp mate out of paying the 50mill ransom for his geddon, I still got thous pirates names in my "dislikes" list
I remember my first tripps to 0.0 past pf- to where tundragons used to live, fighting tinuk, paper(?), livevire and thous guys, with the 3rd corp i was in. Koronos though me a bitt about PVP'ing back then, i remember him shouting at me caus i docked in my bb insted of staying and fighting a apoc, and my jamming power was what was needed to keep him jammed.. poor Koronos lost his scorp.. Hey mate btw! Kjewla was in our corp aswell, he was a n00b like me back then
I remember my friend Edson talked me into going pirate som ppl in lovsec.. him in his rupture me in a blackbird with dampeners.. we killd a badger mk1 infront of a gun fitted apoc.. my heart was pumping on the brim of explosion!
I remember killing a pirate in a moa, with my mate in his claw and me in my crow.. only to end up with my corp beeing ransomed or blackmailed by FA caus of us killing one of theyr members..
I remember joining Rubra libertas Militia, up in aridia, going into fountain killing more of them, mainly as revenge for making my corp pay back for the moa. some of my best times in EVE, flying with ppl like JamesW, Species, ZUDD, Crusari, cpt pugwas, Scorchio, cofresi and allot of other grate pilotes
I remember us making VC with damage indurstries. And beeing in the fight where BoB (befor they even made the IGA i think) in NOL over the station there.. I was in my stilleto, ninja tackling the primary! fallin asleep only to wake up beeing warped around with the fleet in my pod
I could go on.. but i think iw said enough for now..
Thank you CCP for this grate game, and tanks to every one playing it, for making this game what it is!!
Cheers! Fogy
Edit: I remember getting my first battleshipp after winning our corp cruiser turnament in my caracal! the 1st price was a geddon! I was so happy, i didnt have to be the haulermonkey when we had mining op's anymore.. I nerfed my siggie.. :( "From my rotting boddy flowers shall grow and I am in them, and that is eternity"

I remember the times when you could fly freely around 0.0 without any fear of players ganking you.
I also remember how much we had fun flying with two probes near to EVE gate and mine our cargoholds full with Ark and go back to nearest station (6 jumps I believe) and sell the stuff.
I remember how I was ganked first time ever in my probe when some uber skilled pilot shot me with a torps while I was stuck in the asteroid piles which EVE had back in beta.
I also remember how great it was later on to ninja mine Dark Ochre in Pure Blind and haul it back, selling it to another PTS member with decent price. And yes, I hauled rocks, not minerals.
I remember how I quit EVE first time since you couldn't do these things anymore. Space isn't as big as it used to be.

Back in the Ra, Tackling a BB or a Caracal with a Vigil, fitted with an oversized AB (no sig penaly, less cap use, and no manuverebility penalty yet) and some scrambler (most likely 20km) orbiting at high velocity to avoid the missiles trailing me, adrenaline surging. and then the target succumbed to the fire of my gang mates.. ... I swiched of the AB ... From nowhere missiles impacted and took me into structure, Almost had a stroke then and there, thinking I missed a hostile and was about to die.. docked to repair, took 15 minutes to calm down before I got back to the KB and could do the repairs. PvP was never again that exciting (luckely?)

I remember a time when the worst complaints CCP had to deal with were lag and no non-ship avatars.
Now we (allegedly) have to worry about wide-spread corruption, bugs accepted as features, what punishments are justified for BoB, and people who whine more about "Should I go on with life?" than 9th grade emo chicks.
But I remember EVE when I didn't have to worry about instant wardecs. I can recall when the worst thing I had to fear was a gate sniper. I can even remember when PvP didn't give me lag, (a fanciful dream, now, but not an issue for others.)
I can still feel the times that have past, but those times are gone now... I'm not leaving, but until things cool down, I'm not nearly as happy about staying as I once was.

Edited by: Sha''blach on 17/02/2007 22:05:16 Edited by: Sha''blach on 17/02/2007 22:01:51 I'll always remember meeting my RL fiance on EvE. Flying around, offered to take her mining (she was a nub and I didn't know she was a she... or a nub) because she was asking for some help in getting her first cruiser. A month later STILL not knowing she was a she having her Message me and thank me very much for the help I provided to her when she was starting out in the game. Later we got to talking and found out she lived near by so invited her over for a little get together in eve's favor - went from there. 2 1/2 years later, here we are. LOVE YOU!
oh, and I also remember this:
Nub moment 1 Nub moment 2
Oh and watching local in rancer when you've got battleships fitted with only smart bombs to stop the hundreds of missiles coming at you from the several hundred angel battleships above ya. "Everyone get under Battleship "yadda yadda addddaaaa and yadda" they are offering missile protection with smart bombs!"
That was by far the coolest thing I've ever seen in EvE. ------------ Peregrinus Amarria

Edited by: Argyle Jones on 17/02/2007 22:44:20 Great post!
I guess we do forget ourselves in complaints don't we? You Sir, have re-opened my eyes to that fact, thank you.
Great moments I remember?
Joining the Federation Strike Group, meeting there the people I still call friends today.
Merging into Asuya and the Triad. A crazy bunch of drunks with guns, such PVP expertise is rare indeed. A merger later and a name change has only improved upon that. Wr3cking for life!
I remember climbing into a vagabond for the first time, awed by the sheer destructive power at my command.
I remember taking that vagabond, 1 on 3, to an angry ishtar, manticore and brutix - and them leaving local the hard way.
I remember reading the tales of INNOMINATE NIGHTMARE, about the cult of emilio and other interesting experiences, re-discovering my passion for eve by following his example for a few weeks.
Too many good memories to put 'em all here.
Yup, thanks to Verone for his post and thanks to CCP for a great game. Will try and remember that when getting the urge to moan and whine ;)

Edited by: Vardemis on 18/02/2007 15:11:05 I remember when I undocked in my Probe in Altrinur for the very first mining op and a corpmember undocked in a Dominix beside me and I just realized how different the proportions in eve are then back in EnB.
I remember when we reformed Hellfire Empire, our old Earth and Beyond Guild (Galileo Server) and how many player didn't move to Eve, some did, I still miss some of the others.
I remember my first Battleship blown up in Geminate when our corp was on our first 0.0 ventures. Only two pilots that were involved in that kill are not podded by me yet, no worries, I will get you eventually.
I remember falling asleep at a gate deep in cloud ring, when bookmarking the area and I just woke up in time before Digitalcommunist would have annihilated my Crow with his Taranis.
I remember the 2nd Alliance Tournament and the adrenaline rush in the MC vs ASCN fight and the complete opposite in the finals against BoB.
I remember the siege of EC- and all the bubbles still give me nightmares. [;)]
I remember me banging my head on the table during the 3rd Alliance Tournament because our Eos piloted didn't manage to stay in range to rep our frigates.
I remember the fanfest, meeting alot of people, teasing Larsson7 about our fight in the 2nd Tournament, getting drunk pretty bad and having a pretty good time overall.
I remember being in the system when the ASCN titan blew up and I couldn't understand why we didn't probe him out as well to protect it.
I remember being so damn happy about Cmdr Patrick not having a cargo scanner installed when he got my Megathron almost down and was able to buy myself out and safe a couple of billions worth of cargo.
I remember through all my playing time meeting old buddies or gangmates back from Earth and Beyond. To name a few welcome surprises: Kinton, Zlouie, Alynthir, Stealthiest, Taxigirl, Zoidberg, Saigyo, Calprimus, Sargonsk and a lot more.
I remember the times when I could read the forums and don't see whining, internal forumposts, *****ing, etc around.
I will remember this thread, as one which gives hope, that the forums are not completely lost yet.

About three years ago I joined the ranks of the pod pilots. Figured a months subs where a fair enough risk even if the game turned out to be rubbish.
So i create my character and drop into space and think nice graphics. I recall thinking very soon after I joined "Oh hell just how complex is this game?"
As I flew around Chaven and its local area I became ever more impressed with the scale and realised how little I knew about the game.
I remember my first steps into low sec and being somewhat frightened by a fight going on in the same belt as me while i mined for the minerals for a Scorpion. (today if I was mining I would just turn and run showing your perspective can change a lot)
I flew a punisher out to 0.0 to try a bit of mining in 0.0 I got almost a whole refine of dark ochre when a bunch of NPCs popped my little frigate. I flew out of 0.0 in my pod Only to get popped in P3EN-E (one of the most notorious gate camps in the universe at the time ) I still have the pilot who popped my ship in my address book as a reminder of the day.
I collected the DO and refined it about a year later when I joined the Phoenix Alliance.
A freind of mine from RL died and we gave him a send off and built a memorial to him in a system with fond memories for us. More people attended his Eve memorial than attended his RL funeral.
Eve has been both kind to me and hurtful sometimes. It can be a horribly frustrating place and an amazingly rewarding one at the same time.
Sometimes i wonder why on earth i am still playing the game and I stop logging on for a bit only to find theres something else I want to do in the game.
Thank you CCP for Eve its been a hell of a ride. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

OMG like where to start...?
the beginning, open BETA, joined up with others from Mankind, we were all in XenoTek, mining in our noob ships in order to get enough minerlas to make out merlins
also waiting for them to release some cruisers so we could fly those, think i got the osprey if memory serves. From there we had a go at trading, found a nice ciggy run up in The Forge, also there was gneisis and other stuff in the low sec belts.
When EvE went live i started the first day with a different character, i left the Xenotek beta corp behind and decided to go solo from the off, learned the game and also took some bad losses (downside of not having group knowledge) quit EVE after 5 months, deleted character.
Restarted EVE a few weeks later (just before christmas 03), decided to spec up in minmatar ships and go combat all the way, stuck with that philosophy ever since. Remember getting my first lvl2 agent and geting through the missions in my Rifter, i was going to spec up my Rifter and be the best Rifter pilot in the galaxy muhahahahaha, few days later i got fed up of that and moved into cruisers
started life with Merc Frigates, learned the skills of my future trade and had a blast, still talk to all my old mates from way back when, allies and old advisaries, was a blast.
had a few different corps over the next year or so, black nova, snigg and BoBo Monkeys to name but a few, met lots of good mates and now have the pleasure of being able to say HI in local to alot of the residents of EvE who i have fought with and against over the years.

Next thing we knew a stealth bomber uncloaked and nearly instapopped one of our rifters, you should've heard the panic as we all dived for the gates, forsaking the agreed method of the gang leader warping us out, we all just ran for our lives!
Was hilarious : P
and bring back a Serif font for Eve, it looked so much classier.

i remember when Ginger Magician(and October Snow) was a "good" guy ... no really, he first tried to make a name for himself as the Leader of the Great Wildlands Pact. Sadly...they sucked and fell apart from CA pressure...he's been bitter ever since i think.
i remember hauling loads of Bistot back 34 jumps to E02-ik with alt haulers, only to get ganked by CA one jump prior to safety. The irony of it was that it was for a CA members BS. We were friends, but that wasnt good enough for the likes of CA.
i remember how that led to the next year and a half of me being a little ***** to CA and living in their own backyard till they finally crumbled. When Xirt was leaving, i helped scout him out. Never was a big player, but atleast ive got the staying power.
