As others have said, no one is forced to have an alt. You can do the same things with friends. And the OP seems to be whining about not being able to solo ferry a capital sized hauling ship across New Eden without having more than one account.
But, to play the Devil's Advocate, the deeper point is true: EVE Online may not force you to use alts but it sure is designed to make alts more useful and more trust-worthy than real life friends and this is probably for business reasons.
Friends may not be online when you need them. Friends might be busy or too far way in-game to help. Friends might be space-traitors leading you into a trap. When I got my 1st alt I was honestly amazed at how much easier the game became, which eventually lead me to my current situation of 4 accounts. I have so much flexibility and freedom in how and where I play the game it's crazy. Cloaky Camp me all you like, I'll just run incursions...
Not saying I mind it at all, I like how EVE allows us to play more than one character at a time (and makes it so easy in so many ways, like drone assign, fleet warping and FoF missiles). So much so that when I play other games and am forced to play "one dude at a time" it feels kind of lacking now lol. |

I trust him completely. He has direct access to most of my assets.
He made me CEO of his corp, and he once insisted I sit in his Aeon so I could experience what that was like; I was too scared to do more than just spin the camera, and avoid bumping into anything within the safety of the force field.
He gave me PLEX for Christmas, and invited me to play WoW with him and his wife.

Everybody should train Advanced Spaceship Command to V anyway. It's a pride thing.
Real EVE players sell their children, buy PLEX then convert said PLEX into skill injectors. JF pilot in like a minute and a half.
Noooooobody actually trains anymore! It's the new EVE!! It's probably taking older players time...to adjust....

Friendship and trust are indeed important.
He can clean you out if he wants to, and is never more than a few clicks away. It's a nice story, but because of the way EVE is designed, disaster is always that few seconds away.

My questions is this, Why are you "Forced" to having multi accounts? Why do you think the way gameplay in Eve "forces"you to have multi accounts?
I have two accounts and for all I know I wasn't "forced" to create a second account, I wanted a second account of my own free will sooooooooo......no forcing in this regards........ |

Memphis Baas wrote:Well that is the official stance; you don't need an alt, you can just trust another player with your very costly ship. Yeah right.
If this is how you feel no amount of changes are going to make you happy. I'd recommend flying with people you trust - if you don't have anyone in your space-life that fits the bill... start recruiting and weed out the bad apples until you have a functioning unit... it's what the rest of us do. Make friends, blow some **** up and lose a few ships... you'll have fun or decide Eve isn't what you thought it was.
... either that or CCP will continue removing functionality for the sake of "ohhhh pretty" and people like you will be all that's left. When that happens you'll know you've "won Eve" and inherited a steaming turd.
Either way, you're going to win, even when you lose.
Thank me later :D

[...] either that or CCP will continue removing functionality for the sake of "ohhhh pretty" Thanks for reading my post in its entirety all the way to the end. I believe I stated exactly what changes would make me happy, and both suggestions would be ADDING options to the game; not a single one of my suggestions was the removal of anything. I even had a disclaimer stating I don't want anything removed. Thanks for taking the time to understand my post; I was thinking that maybe I'd need to add pictures or bigger fonts to make the simpler people understand what I was saying, but clearly these were not needed.

Scipio Artelius wrote:Even in the situation where you want your main to be a JF pilot and in a major alliance often wardecced, why do you need a JF for highsec? So i can get supplies from highsec? If im just moving stuff from one nullsec system to another nullsec system, then one JF character would be fine. But if i want to get things from Jita, and haul them out to nullsec, i will need a highsec JF character to move the empty JF though highsec, to jita. You cant cyno the thing directly onto the Jita station, since you cant light cynos in highsec.
I cant use my main character as a highsec JF pilot since he's wardec'd 24/7 and usually has killrights.
I cant use a highsec JF alt in nullsec, since most large alliances wont set your neutral alts blue. And even if i did manage to get my own alliance to do it, theres no way to convince the allies to do it as well.

pretty much for the 10 years ive been playing esp after 08 when mass advertising took effect in the us the answer has always been from other people to get more accounts
disappointing really, since eve has a nice little statement against running multiple accounts
which I don't have access to pulling up since eve discontinued the wiki where it was posted from ccp

Honestly i just like to be self-sufficient. i also like to help others. a JF will let me do that. Im just disappointed that while my main character is 3 days away from a JF, it will be useless without training up a completely fresh character for highsec JF travel.

Terminal Insanity wrote:so, i've wanted a jumpfreighter for a long time, and now im really starting to look into it and plan for it.
I realized in order to run a jumpfreighter without being a complete idiot, i'll need 3-4 seperate characters, with a minimum of 2 accounts.
1) My "main" JF pilot, in an alliance that is wardec'd 24/7, so that i can dock my freighter into the sov systems 2) My "highsec alt" JF pilot, so that i can warp my empty JF to jita 4-4 and load it, without being ganked by wartargets. 3) A cyno alt, for obvious reasons. 4) Optionally, a webbing alt to help move my Freighter though highsec when its full of stuff on a return trip.
Cyno alts are trivial, but they are the primary reason you'd need TWO ACCOUNTS. Having to train the JF skills on two separate pilots is terrible. Yes, they can both be on the same account. But you are REQUIRED to train the same skills twice in order to responsibly use the same JF, because of other game mechanics (wars, killrights, etc)
Im honestly not sure what can be done about this, but its not right.
I agree, furthermore, it's not just with JF pilots. This game is night and day with multi accounts vs single pilot. I use blaster BS in missions because of the DPS, but it'd really be better if I can have an alt in an orca at safe BM in same system to reload my cap booster 800's and salvage when I'm done, as one example. But really, I should be able to change ships and not have to worry about the empty ship getting jacked when I'm gone.
Don't listen to these people who try to talk down your points, there should be changes to give solo pilots more options to essentially eliminate need for an alt. However CCP needs the money, but how long will it go before enough people get fed up and demand them to fix this stuff? |
