See https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=6380823#post6380823 for an announcement on Wine support on Mac.
This is still experimental but I'm excited to see how this compares to the current solution.
What does this mean for Linux? Officially nothing really changes, but I'm hoping this will also have a positive impact on Linux support. We will now have inhouse testing of EVE on Wine - even if it is only on OS X it is more likely to uncover Wine specific issues that would otherwise not have been noticed until it was released and uncovered by you, the players.
If you have a Mac, I encourage you to try out our Wine support and let me know how it works!

CCP Snorlax, hero of the few, saviour of the oppressed, avatar of the forsaken! May your songs be sung by generations to come!
(Does that mean Cedega/Cider is finally on it's way out?)
Edit: I wonder if I can run Eve on Wine on Darling on Linux. |

That's great! It's how it should have been since the beginning... I mean, EVE don't have an official Linux support because that in the time that CCP did release a Linux Client, I was with 2003-4 era graphics with a ton of bug and minimum support while in the same time you could use Wine to get the "premium Windows client" with way better graphics, more fps, less bug...
Mac user did use the official Client while Linux user, more tech savvy, just did use Wine for better everything and so CCP dumped the Linux support because is was simply not useful at that time as Linux user was a self supporting community.
But now that CCP support Wine on Apple, it should be really trivial to support Linux too as it's the same codebase, Even the new launcher is using QT from what I read... The only difference is that Linux have better video drivers (Apple lag on OpenGL specs). |

I don't think it would be trivial, but certainly doable. Thing is - making it work is one thing. Supporting it is the other. Once there'd be an official Linux release again, they'd have to continually support it as well. They'd have to make sure the launcher and the game works pretty much all the time. Things like captains quarters or IGB not working for long stretches of time or tinkering around for a week after a patch would be a no-go. They'd probably not get by anymore with just CCP Snorlax helping out. |

The patchnotes mentioned removal of the station environment enabled toggle. While CQ works as of this point, we cannot guarantee that as players and using that toggle on new installs or after updates was the only way into the game back when CQ was crashing upon boot. Are CCP now saying that CQ will forever work on WINE without issue? |

EVE is becoming shallow and puerile; it will satisfy neither the veteran nor the "WoW" type crowd in the transition.
