I'm training and amarr pilot and my target ship is Paladin for L4s with him.
So fat I can fit T2 shield and armor tank, got maxed fitting skills (almost... very close.) almost maxed cap skills as well.
at any rate I was fooling aroung on Pyfa with the available Amarr navy and T1 battleships and and I am not sure I like the numbers.
you see, I've ran plenty of missions in the past and once you get Ewar in there you need your drones. for those moments I pretty much like to have my armor or shield rep\boost stable for around 5 minutes at least so I can kill the eWar culprits and move out if I face any Trouble.
At any rate looking at the numbers... hmm... large energy guns eats loads of cap and some hulls (abaddon I look at you) are not even cap stable with guns and armor hardeners alone.
The other ships looks better but the total DPS I get is either extremely low to long ranges or acceptable for very short ranges. So I tested with some prop modules and they are not that "decent" addition. only thing which makes the BS go faster is MWD but that's pretty large toll on the cap.
So I'm right now using prophecy with sentry drones and beam lasers on L3s and its doing well killing everything in seconds.
After my investigation I seem to see better numbers using the normal Armageddon hull with sentry drones and missiles (Cruise for long range or RLML \ RHML for smaller rats).
But, if I get those low numbers and possible application of damage issues right now maybe I should stop at BC hull size, Looking at the cruisers line of ships the Sacrilege looks very promising with generous drone bay, hull resist bonus and massive bonus to HAM damage. Also the Cruiser line opens up the Legion later down the line with missiles as well and other interesting ships as well. Testing now the Sacrilege on Pyfa with HAM II and rage missiles I get around 600 DPS (which is damage specific vs the rats), while also being cap stable when using the MWD so the ship is moving around 1500-1600 M/s and managed to squeezed in also web and TP.
Overall looking at the numbers now and considering the paths (note my only concern for that alt is Aesthetic reasons only so flying only amarr hulls with him).
Stick with cruiser size line of ships or move to BS size? then will it be better to try and work out laser weapon ship or take the missiles\sentry geddon build? and even then, for fun\hour factor here... I really don't care about isk gains, Marauders or T3\T2 cruisers for good time?
Edit: Another option I'm looking at right now is command BC, the damnation looks splendid with stupidly huge boost to armor HP and resists (means less tanking mods) and very good missiles bonuses as well as (iirc) I can fit on it 2 laser guns + 5 missile launchers. thoughts? |

You've got a lot of options going there...
So, first, If you settle into the thinking of BS for PvE, and can just sit and spend the time long enough to train into Paladin, you'll be happy one you're in the Paladin. The Geddon is a good boat for PvE (drones plus missiles) and the one I would pick if I was in your shoes. Some of the other need a bit of a shift in thinking for how you're going to approach the mission.
I'm guessing, with your Prophecy, that you're landing on the grid, dropping drones and shooting til everything is dead. If you try the same with a BS, you'll get overwhelmed with scram frigates and DPS pretty quickly. Most of the viable PvE fittings for Amarr involve a MicroJump drive and mid-range fit. For example, Tachyons with the Higher DPS crystal option should get you into the 100km range with some fitting mods. Your tank, at that point, is minimal because they barely hit you, and at 100 km, you should have plenty of time to take out the scram/web frigs.
Another thought process to get into with BS is that stable capacitor, even out to 5 minutes is not a necessity. Generally, once you are familiar with the missions you run and the triggers/waves you encounter, you want the least possible tank you can get by with. For armor, that means a capacitor booster instead of other cap mods (potentially opening up several fitting slots for more DPS) and the best active hardners you can find. The reactive armor hardener has some use in this setup as well. The faster you kill them, the less damage you take.
If you combine these two thought processes (range for damage mitigation, and burst tank instead of stable tank) your fitting options now open much more and you can probably get the DPS out of some of the ships that were underperforming earlier
On the cruiser end of things, Legion is very nice with HAM's. And for level 4 missions, again, once you are familiar with spawns/triggers, its not too difficult to speed tank almost all the damage and deal with web frigates as soon as they spawn.
Hope this helps a little

In the past I ran successfully many L4s in passive shield gila, speed tanking negated most damage and once I killed the frigs\ cruiser sized hulls the BS missed me all the time.
_______________________________________________
Another thing to consider which I've noticed. I'm using navy sentry drones and my current skill level is 3 with them. all other relevant drone skills for them is on 4. right now I've noticed even with omni-link and tracking scripts some sentry drones (looking at you warden) will miss quite a lot under certain range. also other sentries will not hit at all if rats are above certain range which then makes me to change between them and once frigs or cruisers gets "under" their guns I need to pop out the scout drones. hence, major dps loss and extra time added to the killing process.
That's one of the reasons I thought to migrate to cruiser size hulls and HAM \ HM on fast ship. |

i tried the armageddon (with lasers) but didn't like it: too "short" range! I switch to a dominix and feelt better (longer range and better drones). Now i try an armor tanked nightmare and i love it! Sansha, blood raider, drones and mercs are easy prey :) range is good (<50km multifreq <100km standard) and i still dont have tech 2 lasers! It required the caldar bs though but its ~2days to train...
Nightmare: 4 tachyon modulated ... 1 salvager // not very pleased of those two, maybe a targeting mod here? 1 tracto beam
1 LMJD 1 AF 1 sensor booster II (+script range / sensor) 2 Tracking computer (+script range / tracking) 2 cap recharger
1 Large repairer II 1 reactive armor hardener 1 energized armor (thermal by defaut but better to adapt to the mission) 3 heat sink 2
1 CCC IDontRemenberTheOtherRigs
2 flight of lights 1 flight of salvage drone
Certainly not the best but already pleasant to play for me! |

Because training into missiles, drones, and other faction ships will get you to your goal of using a Paladin faster.

Although Marauders get massive bonuses to tank, they do not have the highest damage.
This means that pirate and navy battleships are better for lvl 4s, where a huge tank is not necessary.
Marauders do come into their own in harder PVE content, like Wormholes (C4/C5). |
