Hey guys!
I'm Caldari, so would I be better off using Vespas, where I get a bonus to kinetic damage from being Caldari or would I be better off cross training over to Gallente Hammerheads which do higher thermal damage?
I'm new to Eve and I keep thinking that because I'm Caldari then everything I do should be Caldari and I'm not sure if that's quite the case!
Thanks! |

For PVE, Gallente drones are normally the best bet. Completely ignore Amarr ones, as a typo in the code leaves the horribly nerfed, while Minmatar ones are unnecessarily buffed. |

I don't think this is true. THe getting bonuses for being Caldari unless you mean to say you have Caldari Drone Specilization trained and will be getting a bigger bonus on T2 Caldari drones. It does not matter what race you are. If you refer to the ship bonuses those normally only apply to certain weapon systems. I am not aware of any Caldari ship that gives bonuses to the kinetic dmg of drones. |

Yeah, you're right, I was confused. I thought the ship bonus carried through to the drones too. |

Just a quick word of advice, this means nothing in Eve. All it affects is your character's picture and about a day or two worth of starter skills. Since there is no penalty for training ships/weapons from another race, there's no reason not to unless you feel like artificially limiting yourself in what you can do.
Also, all drones are considered one weapon type (regardless of the race of the drone in question), the only time they diverge at all is that there are 4 racial books for the T2 drones (which simply means that you need to train the skills for all of the types of drones you want to use the T2 versions of). And as people have said, it's typically either Gal drones for damage and Min drones for speed (and Exp damage). |

This.
Also, until you have played long enough to understand the differences between the races just ignore them and look at the stats (ship/module etc). as that's what really matters anyway.

This is wrong. For both Guristas and Serpentis, Caldari drones do more dmg than Gallante ones. Both are weakest to kinetic, with heat secondary. Gallante drones are better only against Amar space rats. Dps gap between Gallante and Amar drones are larger than resist difference of EM/heat in Amar space rats. Dps gap between Gallante and Caldari drones are smaller than resist difference of Kinetic/heat in Caldari/Gallante space. Gallante drones has the highest dps, Caldari second, Amar fourth.
For pvp, Gallante is bad despite paper dps. No player fit will have a heat hole, but many will have em/exp hole. Minmatar drones preferred, for exp and tracking, despite 3rd in dps. Amar drones situational, despite low stats, against t1 shield boats or exp boosted hacs. |

^this, despite being OCD, is pretty much spot on.
I will add that when PVPing, I prefer minmatar drones because warriors can actually hassle iinterceptors/dramiels, Valkyries can hassle Vagabonds, and Berserkers can actually catch anything faster than a BS. Didn't know this for serpentis. I thought it was best to use thermal against them.
Also it seems to take longer using wasps than ogres against Guristas.
The only time I use Wasps is against mordus and caldari. Am I doing this wrong?

Gallente drones do the most damage, Minmatar drones are the fastest.
The only time I ever see people using Caldari or Amarr drones is when they REALLY need to offset their ship's damage type makeup. Otherwise they're really not worth it. Andreus Anthony LeHane Ixiris CEO, Mixed Metaphor

Note: these rules do not apply to sentry drones. Only for lights, meds, and heavies.
Amarr: Lowest damage, I think they have pretty high HP...they're generally just pants, don't use them. EM damage
Gallente: Highest damage, highest health, lowest tracking speed, lowest speed. Thermal damage.
Minmatar: Lowest damage (aside from Amarr), I think the lowest health...fastest speed, fastest tracking speed. Explosive damage.
Caldari: Straight mix between Gallente and Minmatar. Kinetic damage. |

Kahega is right, and if you would like some actual numbers and a sort of "newbie's overview" of drones, I have a blog post for that purpose. Duplicating all that info here would be dumb. |

Actually with a lot of PVP shield fits plugging the EM hole thermal is often the lowest resist.

^ This
Also in pvp speed often means DPS...your Hammerheads are great but slow as hell...while they burn from ship to ship a set of Valkyries or even Vespas could already be at the target and get an extra shot or two off...
I have atualy started using Caldari Drones in pvp, they are a middle ground between Minnie speed and Gal DPS...and they are half the price! |

^ This. I usually use Gallente when I know the target is going to be scrammed/webbed, Minmatar (particularly Warrior IIs) when I suspect fast tackle, or a gaping explosive resist hole, and Caldari otherwise

This! I can't believe we've left these out of the discussion so far. They're so overpowered that they're arguably the best medium drones to carry (!) - especially if you're roaming solo.

My favorite is something like the Thorax with high damage anyway, sporting a flight of EC-600s. Not only do you melt their face off, but they can't do anything about it. |
