Like a lot of other people, I play Eve on and off, and usually lurk in the forums in between.
I know I would definitely keep the game installed and login If I had a permanent low skill pilot for fun activities.
I assume that would create problems with botters etc, guess you could limit that by restricting the amount of ISK the character can send to other players?
The 3 mil SP is of course just a number, could be anything. |

F2P = alt city. A low SP cap just means you need more free alts. |

I don't know.
F2P with no progression other than through skill injectors doesn't sound like a bad idea.
That way, they gain no SP passively unless subscribed, but can gain skills by paying for injectors, which means ISK for people that are subscribed and $ for CCP both for the skill farming alts and likely PLEX to purchase injectors.
Not a bad idea in my view. |

Not a bad idea in my view. thats a terrible idea because there are literally endless things you can do once you skill them once and leave be.
for instance , cloaking probing explorer/scout alts as they run just a hare under 2m sp. the obvious cyno alts, fwlpfarmer alts, gashuffing alts, miners i could have eyes cloaky eyes in every system of a damn region.
the sp number is irrelevant if you arent either being billed or having to plex for access to tq on a per-account level.

I guess I should have also stated what I thought was the obvious :P :
You could limit the skills these accounts can train, just like trial accounts work currently.
Them putting up all sorts of orders in the market etc could be an issue, I guess you could again address that by not allowing these accounts to make advanced orders and just insta-sell/insta-buy? |

I used to have videos of a game I used to play.
It was a Korean MMO and the gold spammers had TRAINS of characters running to spots to kill monsters. Do you doubt the Chinese would do this to EVE?

Short answer: F2P would kill EVE.
Long answer: Hell no, I don't want to discuss that. If CCP does things as wrong as to take that step, we all will see what happens in 2 or 3 years after adding F2P to EVE.
CCP Seagull: "EVE should be a universe where the infrastructure you build and fight over is as player driven and dynamic as the EVE market is now".
62% of players: "We're not interested. May we have Plan B, please?"
CCP Seagull: "What Plan B?"

EVE will be going the F2P route eventually, but a hard SP cap is a bad idea because of unlimited alts, and those are powerful things in this game.
Instead a free account (or an unlimited/permanent trial account, which would be a better description for what I'm about to propose) should be severely restricted in what it can do and have hard caps not on SP, but on the ships that can be flown. Ideally a free player should be able to do all the things EVE has to offer, but the more advanced paths in those professions should be restricted to paying accounts. Mining for example, a free player would have access to a Venture and nothing else. They would have access to the most basic industrial and nothing else. Only the lowest tier of any given ship class will be available to a trial account, with capitals being off limits all together (including freighters and the Orca).
Cyno's, cloaks and entosis links will be unavailable, only the first tier market skill will be available, and basically anything else that throwaway alts might realistically be created for under this system. The ultimate goal is to allow people to explore all of EVE for free for as long as they like, but if they want to get into the higher tier content they will need a paying account.
I think a system similar like this will eventually be how EVE moved forward.

How would you handle them Plexing? Do they then lose being a free account? A max item where I can drop my sub and deal with penalties but still play for free?
But really, army oh free alts? I can do so much industry, so much fun with fleeting myself a set of dessies and just ganking stuff, well okay maybe not due tot he time lag to make it work, but really free alt means I could have somebody with me at any time as meat bag and DPS for a mission. A hauler on demand in an NPC corp for moving stuff with no risk, disposable gank alts being truly disposable (free emails and no charge? Just train a bunch and gank until useless, then ditch them.)
Its a very bad plan, and I'm not even sure a fixed skill ship like the gnosis as being their only option wouldn't be lead to breaking the game in some ludicrous method.
I have high hopes for this crowd, enough that I don't trust them with craft supplies for fear of what they could do. |

I think it's more about this discussion is old and the idea that F2P EVE have been discussed over and over ... if this game where to become F2P the entire core concept would have to change first and then EVE would die horribly.
I also think the main reason why one does not want an MMO to become F2P is that it draws the F2P-crowd which means LOADS of entitled kids who demands the bar to be lowered and in a game that thrives on it's difficulty it would obviously be a very bad thing. |
