Edited by: Chasida on 12/02/2007 08:54:19 Hi ppl, I am new to the game, started playing yesterday, and yes that makes me a newb
Did tutorial, then started some agent missions. After a couple I had enough creds to get a Caldari Condor. Got 1 small rail gun and 2 missile turrets and 2 small shield gens. Stocked up and went on to do a mission where I was supposed to kill a escorte.
Ported into the system, found like 10 enemies, engaged at normal 1000m range, killed a couple then got POWNED BAD.
Yes I know, I should have stayed at long range, but I didnt due to didnt have to earlier missions, and I am a newb. But isnt this a BIT much compared to the earlier missions? This one was way way way harder.
Took my first ship loss and sure sucked. Dont have money to get a bigger ship that can be fitted with bigger shields.
I thaught that I could just do agent missions, and they would scale, but looks like I need to do other missions/atroid mining in between to be able to do em...

as you said. you are a noob. dont expect the agents to give you missions that are easily done.
and how come your previous missions were easier then your lvl 1 missions you are doing? you're 1 day old and as far as i know there aint no lvl 0 missionsor you are talking about the deadspace training complexes.
anyways. rat in belts, mine a bit, keep practicing and get to know your ships better before rushing through t his game this game isnt beaten in one day. quake 4 and doom 3 are easily beaten in 1 day (if ur not a chicken**** like my GF )
but really. take your time. it wil all get better ------------------------------------ Dont make me bug you...

Talking about the agent missions I get after completing the tutoriral missions. At the very end of the tutorial I get introduced to a agent, then after a couple missions I get introduced to a new agent in another system. I think it is the second mission from the second agent, kill off an escort that is passing through a system.
Anyone got a good link to detailed info on all skills and equipment?..

You've only started playing so take it as a learning experience. That said start doing some of the easier belt npcs, you'll make the isk you need to get some basic mods and a decent frigate as well as a feel for using your ship before you start missions.
After a week or two you'll be wondering how you ever thought your frigate and mods were expensive.

Not all the mission of the same general level have the same difficulty. You have got one of the medium-hard one for the desccription you give.
Some simple note: 1) look the isk reward, it is a good gauge of the mission difficulty, as it increase, so increase the difficulty. Remember that you can refuse a mission without negative effect, it is only if you refuse a second mission from the same agent, within 4 hours, that you get negative effects (and at your level they are hard negative effects). 2) don't use 2 shield booster, instead add a armor plate (get the needed skills if you haven't them), it will give you a little more life. 3) most enemyes don't have long range fire (mercenaries do have it), at least as a "primary" attack, so if you can keep your distance, and use weapons with good ranges, you can reduce the number of NPC before the can concentrate all the weapons they have on you. 4) kill the small ship first, uusally they are faster than you and can be killed fast. Killing them you have a better chance to choose the range of the engagement and reduce the total damage you get.
and
5)read some thread in the Mission forum, mostly they are about high level missions, but there are some on the lower ones, and post there as you will usually get suggestions from the people more involved in missions.

Welcome to Eve, a world that is cruel and unforgiving where losses hurt and rewards can be sweet. Some players don't like it and leave Eve. Those of us who stay here do it because of this 'realism'. Each of us had frustrating and very frustrating experiences. It is a part of the game.
My advice: ask/look for advice. Ask in your corp channel or in the help channel for advice or join a player corp or check the forum. There are helping people everywhere. You will see with a better setup you will be able to handle this mission easily.
Don't give up. You might miss the most rewarding and challenging game you've ever played. Never expect the game nor all players to be fair, though.

Yup, as others have said, welcome to EVE, she's a cruel and heartless mistress but you'll love her all the same. As to your specific problem.. yeah, sometimes Agent missions can be significantly harder than other missions of the same level, you just have to be careful and ALWAYS use your equipments' advantages, remember, long range guns will have a hard time hitting up close.

Welcome to EVE :)
Okay now there are some things that can help you.
Drop one of the shield boosters, put in an Afterburner.
(Mdm boosters generally aren't usuable on frigates)
Over in the Ships forum you can find a sticky threat that has some set ups. Now you won't be able to do the very best ones yet, but you can get an idea of where you should be.
Missions also vary greatly in difficulty, even missions of the same level.
Generally the higher the pay and the higher the bonus pay time the more difficult the mission is.
When first making a new set up as others suggest go to some belt rats in .8 or .7 and test out your set up first, make sure you get a feel for the ship.
Next you'll want to learn about your enemy. Rats are vulnerable to certain damage types and also use certain damage types. I don't remember them off my head. If you shoot me a mail ingame once the server comes back up or you get on I'll mail you a list of the ones I know.
Okay good luck.

Rats is an abbreviation for NPC pirates. It was coined by the players to distinguish them from player pirates. You can see if they are NPC by the red cross they have on the overview. System rating goes from 1.0 to 0.5 space, where concord intervenes when criminal actions happen (as in you canŠt just get killed for no reason without it having the consequence that the aggressor gets punished - so best if you stay in that area for a bit at least), then there is 0.4 to 0.1 space where there is no concord intervention (btw - concord is the NPC police in game) but there are sentry guns on gates and stations that fire if something criminal happens in their range, and then there is 0.0 sec - lawless space.
What people are trying to suggest here is that you dive into what I think is the best part about EvE - tweaking your setup, learning about it, getting to know your ship...And also learning how to handle it. Most level 1 missions can be done in the rookie ship if you know how (okay, granted - I did some like that with an alt last night and I had to get the occasional new ship, but it is doable) and even more so in a frigate. Your skills will also improve and with that your chances of staying alive. DonŠt be disheartened and welcome to eve Hope you will enjoy it as much (or even more) than I do.

Rats is the name given to NPC faction ships :)
System Rating:
High Empire
1.0 Heart of a Empire Faction, Gate Guards, Sentry Guns, Concord Patrols, several of these do not have asteroid belts anymore, no rats. Sec Rating -2.0 or lower KOS .9 Gate Guards, Sentry Guns, Concord Patrols no rats. Sec Rating -2.5 or lower KOS .8 Gate Guards, Sentry Guns, Concord Patrols occasional rats -3.0 Sec Rating or lower KOS .7 Gate Guards, Sentry Guns, Concord Patrols rats become uncommon -3.5 Sec Rating or lower KOS .6 Gate Guards, Sentry Guns, Concord Patrols, rats become common and more numerous (groups of up to 3 are generally seen). -4.0 SEC Rating or lower KOS .5 Gate Guards, Sentry Guns, Concord Patrols, rats become common and more numerous sometimes groups of up to 4 rats. -4.5 SEC Rating or lower KOS
Low Empire
.4 Sentry Guns, more powerful rats and more common. -5.0 or lower KOS anywhers. .3 Sentry Guns, slight more powerful rats and they become slightly more common .2 Sentry Guns, slight more powerful rats and slightly more common .1 Sentry Guns, slightly more powerful rats and slightly more common.
No Man's Land
0.0 This is no man's land, well there are some folks that have claimed portions of it. THis is where the Player empires are. Most Player Empires work on a NBSI policy (That's Not Blue Shoot It). Rats are more numerous, there are no gate cannons. Someone attacking you in 0.0 does not lose sec status or standing.

I have seen lvl 2 missions that are easier then some lvl 1s.
That being said, watch for the money reward and loyalthy point reward. The higher those are, the harder the mission. This isnt an absolute rule, rather a rule of thumb, but as a completely new character its a good rule to follow.
ALso, learn about damage weaknesses and damage types of NPCs, to prepare yourself. Having the right ammo in your guns and launchers is essential for doing good damage.
One mission you definelty want to stay the **** away from is Worlds Collide. When you see this mission tell the agent to find someone else for it, at least until you can fly a good frigate and have tricked it out a bit. YOu can decline 1 mission evry few hours without it having an impact. YOu should make heavy use of it now to get rid of hard missions and use it later to skip easy missions like deliveries and stuff.
Final advice: the agents you are being sendt to arent the only agents you can work for. Most stations have agents. It might be worth your time to go and find a better agent. you cna use the starmap for this, setting the filter to agents you can work for.
PS: dont be bummed about loosing your frig. when I started (not so long ago), I was actually stupid enogh to fly my starting frig into one of the harder lvl 1 mission.sw I still had the miner 1 and civ gatling equipped :P It was not pretty. Evryone looses ships in this game. And frigates are dirt cheap, easy to replace and therefor the perfect ships to learn the game in.
