I'm used to having storyline missions adversely affect my opposing faction standings. Usually it's minimal to slight; no more than 30% of the gain or so at the extreme end if I remember correctly. Just finished a storyline opposing Guristas that was offered by a Caldari agent.. Mission gain was 9.375% for Caldari. However, instead of a minor loss to Gallente, I received an -8.1393% loss of standing. Cannot find anything close in my standing history to this kind of hit when facing pirate third party targets.
Then I remembered a Dev blog that said CCP was going to make it harder to remain/obtain positive standings with all 4 major factions. A time table wasn't offered, but the blog did state that changes were coming. Has anyone had this type of standing hit when opposing third party targets? Perhaps I'm just not remembering correctly, but thought I'd ask here after searching.
To buck the popular trend, I began to Rage Start instead of Rage Quit.
...and every time I get another piece of Carbon, I know exactly what CCP is getting this Christmas.

I always thought derived standings gains or losses were lower than the original standings change, but once found when running for thukkers that I got a bigger hit to ammatar than the original gain. Nothing I looked up seemed to explain it, so I submitted a bug report. The response I got was helpful along the lines of: "we haven't released the standings maths". I queried it on here but still got no joy. Result, derived standings apparently can be worse then expected.
As for the change to standings and making it more difficult to maintain good standings across the board, I remember seeing people talk about it, but same as you, no implementation date and not seen it in patch notes. But then, ccp have been implementing a few stealth nerf's to pve and not answering questions about them, so don't be surprised if the same has happened here.
E: also, I ran the caldari epic arc on a couple of my characters in a fleet, and one of the standings boosts just wasn't applied. Again bug report submitted and so far ignored. |

Submit a petition not a bug report, to get the standing corrected by a GM. It's a common bug, happens to me 50% of the time. Be aware, that this is not a prio topic, can take a couple of weeks.

Doesn't matter if the mission was against a Pirate Faction. What matters is you gained a large standing increase with Caldari who are enemy with Gallente.
Not knowing what your current standings are makes it very tough to rationalize an answer for your question. One thing is for sure, as you gain higher standing level with a specific Faction, their enemy Faction will receive a larger standing hit. However there is a cap on how low the standings will go provided you don't destroy any Faction ships / structures.

im waiting for them to come around to saying standings is useless and do away with them as the only reason for them is
clones and refining benefits at a corporate level
if you get a high enough empire you can unlock all agents for them
and the only down side is if you run pirates you cant go to empire vs if you run empires you are limited to half the empire space and if you go into the opposing space its just like being a ganker and dodging concord, warp before they can get to you and commit your action
