What do you want to do? This is a sandbox not a scripted linear MMO. I can't tell you what to do without some explanation of what your likes and dislikes are or what you are looking to do. |

I guess the one thing that I can tell you with the very little information that you gave us is try everything. Run some missions. Do some exploration. Try out some low sec and / or null sec PvE. Try various types of PvP. Try everything.
Don't focus on anything early on until you've tried enough stuff to have an idea of what your likes and dislikes are. Even then keep in mind that as you grow within the game your likes and dislikes will likely change. Keep your mind open and be willing to try new stuff.
Anything that you do in this game will eventually become boring if that is all that you can do. |

Do all the career agent missions, because they will teach you about various parts of the game and give you an idea of what you might enjoy. Then build on those experiences - go mine some more. Venture out into null sec and see if you can probe down a relic site and make it back with the loot intact. Find a blueprint for something profitable and figure out how to make and sell it. Do a little PVE if it interests you. Even PVP experience is good for an industrialist because it gives you a better understanding of the demand market for ships and modules.
Once you have a general idea what you want to do, look for a corp to join that is doing that sort of stuff. EVE is much easier to learn with someone experienced to help guide you along the learning curve. And it's more fun to play with others as well.
Don't be afraid to shift your focus if your interests change. It's very common to find yourself on a completely different path than where you started.

Reiterate on what was said, try everything and stay flexible to keep the game fresh ... there is a nice challange I can give you once you completed the career agents and the Sisters Epic Arc, explore the right nullsec region (figure out which) to obtain the blueprints for some integrated or augmented drones (figure out what sites, with what ship/fit), make it back alive, manufacture the drones, and sell them on the market for profit.

No need for apologizing. My intent was not to berate you. I merely wanted to focus your attention on the fact that this is a sandbox. It's not that you've done anything wrong just that a lot of players come to Eve from other MMO which have leveling guides and DPS guides and raiding guides etc... all of which tell you the one best way to do that thing.
In those other linear MMOs there is a clear starting point with a clear ending point and even a clear end game. None of that exists here and I just wanted to make that clear. You can do what ever you want in this game. There is no right or wrong.
The above being said if you enjoy mining and industry by all means have at them. If you are doing them because you assume they are good isk then I would like to correct you on that. Mining and building stuff are not great isk in this game. They are not terrible either but don't do them for the isk.
You can make isk doing pretty much anything in this game so try stuff and figure out what you enjoy and then ask us how to do more of that or do it better.
If you want to get involved in mining and industry strictly then you will need to get familiar with the market. Pretty much everything in this game is built, bought and sold by players to players.
To get into building I'd start off with ammo. You will want to do some homework on building costs and how to build etc.. then grab an ammo BPO that you have done the market research on and know that the profit and volume are there for. Then research that BPO and start building. If you need help with this I can get a bit more specific.
I used to offer to meet people in game to talk if they had questions about this stuff but without the ability to watchlist people that has become near impossible for me. |

Can just agree with the previous posters ... EVE is a very open game where you can do whatever you feel like and I would recommend you to take advantage of that and try out as many things as possible. After you find out what you like come back and ask more specific questions on that 'line of work'
Here's my short summary of the 3 different PvE activites I have tried out with some pro's and con's and a verdict (NOTE that these are my views and not to be taken as facts).
* Mining Pro's: Steady income. Can be done while semi-afk. Con's: REALLY BORING if done solo (could be slightly more fun in a fleet I guess but haven-Št tried that). Verdict: I wouldn-Št recommend it for anyone atleast not as their main line of 'work'.
* Mission Running Pro's: Steady income. Can be quite varied if you work for agents from different departments. Can be finished quickly if you are in a hurry. Con's: Lower level missions have VERY low payment both in ISK and Loyalty Points. Becomes a grind since you want to advance to higher levels within a corporation. Verdict: Not the most fun of activities but some companies have quite nice stuff in their Loyalty Point Stores and because of that I will recommend atleast looking into it.
* Exploration Pro's: Possibilty to win big in the form of valuable loot, involves other players (either explorers competing for the same 'treasures' or hunters out to get you). Con's: Income is NOT steady which could be discouraging for some players. It's a solo activity where every other player is competition which doesn-Št suit the game's emphasis on teamwork. Verdict: I love exploration so perhaps I shouldn-Št recomend it due to increased competition but for me it's by far the most fun PvE activity I have tried.
Finally I would say that whatever actvitiy you go for it's a great idea to look for a Corporation that specializes in that field OR you could go for one of the newbie friendly Corporations that can teach you stuff about the game in general. |

Good post in general. Just wanted to add onto this part. I used to really enjoy large mining ops. Those don't exist in high sec any longer if you want to do that you will have to travel to sov null. You don't necessarily have to be in a large mining op. I've seen dozens of solo miners interacting with each other in both fleet and local.
You might ask how they can be solo miners if they are in fleet and by solo I mean hauling your own ore and taking care of that end of things yourself as opposed to a fleet op where the ore is combined and sold and the isk is split amongst participants.
anyway back to the main point mining can be fun but not solo high sec mining. Not solo any kind of mining.
Another kind of mining that can be fun is fitting up a barge with a crazy tank and a point and jumping into a low sec belt and baiting someone to engage you while your buddies are sitting one system over waiting to pounce on your word. |

If you have an industry bent it makes sense to do some mining because it gives you time to read about eve while you're filling your hold with ore. You'll also get used to flying in space, learn to pay attention to your surroundings, and use the market.
If you decide to do some mining you should get into a mining barge as soon as possible -- It is much more capable than a venture. I recommend a Procurer because almost no one will bother trying to attack it. Don't bother advancing to an Exhumer until you find you really like mining AND you've tried some other aspects of the game.
Welcome to Eve.

I WANNA KNOOOOOW Now I know where you got your name from Bumblefck. Because that is where this No Mercy song came from, way back in the bumblefck 90's.
You made me google it and now I'll probably be stuck on cheesy 90s songs all day long.
Thanks Bumblefck for polluting my brain with this trip through the way-back machine. Much like this band I can see you have no mercy. |
