Originally by: Salvis Tallan There has been talk of putting in better corp management tools, and I was wondering where these come in to this action plan? Are there any plans for extras such as exporting wallet data, or other exports/tools to aid in the creation/maintenence of these player infrastructures (or the creation/maintenence of third part tools for the infrastructures)?
The blog only covered the broad strokes. Corporation improvements are also part of Revelations 2. The list isn't finalized, till then it's a simple "yes".

Originally by: Aselus overall I'm just plain dissapointed, been looking forward to factional warfare in hopes that it would make pvp more fun and goal orinented as well as possibly some pve things int here with that. graphix aren't a big deal, even though my rig can run them, I was a lot more looking forward to facitonal.. eh. This statement just gives me a giant downer feeling.
~Aselus
I'm not sure if you didn't read the blog or wether my blog was so incomprehensable
As I stated there, we're making all warfare more fun and goal oriented, THEN doing factional warfare, so that, in addition to all warfare, will be more fun and goal oriented.
And also, Graphics isn't delaying factional warfare. They are on totally seperate tracks. It's making warfare fun and more goal oriented that's delaying factional warfare. Hope that clearly explains it

Originally by: Marcusi Some very interesting updates. I'm very happy to see more work done to make the game work better than to new content like factional war.
I notice that breaking the big blob (killing fleet combat) is still a goal:
Quote:
THEN, when we've gotten warfare right, when we've gotten it fun for small groups of skirmishers as well as a 15 man wings or 30 man fleets to make a difference, goals, which you don't need a 200 man fleet to achieve something.
So...if 30 man fleet can make a difference, why wouldn't 100 or 200 make more difference?
I'm also really looking forward to the sound working!
Hopefully the corporate culture gets cleaned up enough for me to still be a subscriber when these changes roll out (and so far the Arkanor IA announcement isn't enough yet, feel free to contact me if you want to know why).
A 200 man fleet will be better, in that it can achieve bigger goals, which are out of reach for the 30 man fleet or that it can achieve more 30 man goals in a shorter timeframe.
But that isn't the point, the point is that today goals for these sized fleets are very few, if any (it depends on your enemy and his infrastructure composition). It's creating goals which they can achieve, without having to find 170 other pilots first.

Originally by: Matthew I've been comparing this latest skill dump with the one previously posted http://myeve.eve-online.com/devblog.asp?a=blog&bid=310, which gave the position about a year ago.
One thing I've noticed is that there are a lot fewer characters listed this time. Previously there were 438371 characters listed, with 358353 of those with under 1mill skillpoints. Total for 1+mill skillpoints was 80018.
I didn't list the 0-1 Million characters, they are 481.596. Our subscribers today are 160.000.

If you bring 100 to achieve a goal that 30 could manage, then you'll still achieve the goal, it'll just be easier. But meanwhile, your enemy has 3 gangs of 30 out achieving 3 goals simultaneously. If one of them runs up against your 100-man team, one gang of 30 is forced to withdraw, but the other 2 will have a clean run to their objective, because all your pilots are in the big gang (am assuming both sides have equal manpower here). They will still have achieved 2 goals to your 1. And there's nothing to say the third 30-man gang won't find an alternative goal to go for that your 100-man blob aren't guarding, bringing it back to 3-1 again.
The key to making this work are multi-vector goals, rather than everything coming down to one gate-camp, one POS siege etc, which is where constellation sov is likely to come in, and more staged goals rather than the all-or-nothing fights we have now that make massive fleet confrontations the only logical way to go.
The trick to balancing this with the need to encourage player infrastructure is going to be tuning it so that small gangs can go enough damage to be worthwhile, without allowing any random wandering pirate to sneak in and cripple your infrastructure investment.
I couldn't have put it better myself.

I assume that the delays in faction warfare will mean that we'll be waiting even longer for a new Amarrian Emperor?

Edited by: Helison on 15/02/2007 11:29:09 Oveur, I have one big plea regarding your changes to warfare, specially to player infrastuctures: Please deploy the changes quite early on Sisi and keep them there for a very long time (2 months?). Organise several events on Sisi to test them very well. They need to be very well balanced, otherwise they could break the game in many aspects. This is no stuff for surprise effects. Most of the new game systems within Revelation I (invention, exploration, salvaging, ...) were NOT balanced, when it was deployed to TQ. Invention was completly untested on Sisi by the players, salvaging was poorly tested and exploration was tested but our concerns were not heared. Booster production was also completly untested. Please avoid this for Revelations 2.

Originally by: Venkul Mul For me, disappointing. As usual lots of love for 0.0, big alliances, PvE later.
No news of fixing courier missions, really adding new missions, fixing R&D mission, looking the rewards in Exploration (the usual distribution should be a curve with a peak in the middle, where hte average intended reward should be, not a descending curve, with high chances of getting noting ena very small chance of gettin a reward so uber that it compensate the missing average if you are the one in 10.000 to get it). Even if PvE is secondary in EVE, it can be enhanced. But every time we see a new it is delayed. There were more mission when I started than now.
I second this statement.

Good luck with all the new stuff. However it does seem that most of your eggs are now in the Revelations 3 basket.
How realistic is delivery of faction warfare and all the new graphic updates in one release? Personally I am anticipating a Rev 4 and probably a 5 as well, but I've got my fingers crossed anyway

Oveur,
Can ask you about invention please, at the moment just not worth even investing in which in turn is causing some serioud market issues
Can you confirm or give us some detail on what you want to get out of invention? What are your goals in this area of the game
Thanks

It would greatly simplify things if you could use a BPO (that doesnt get used up) for invention instead of having to make BPCs with high run numbers first...

I have a question related to the new graphics (probebly the new vista engine) : Will shadows be included?
If flying between the sun and large object creates a shadow it always causes a nice "oooh and aaah" effect.
Its not essential at all since 99% of the time the shadow won't fall on anything or that object will be to far away (1km in eve is nothing) but i'm just wondering

Oveur, will the adding of more infrastructure ( pos structures ) come with bugfixes for existing structures like mobile labs ? ( for example: not being able to do remote research copies or research on any bpo requiring items )
Also what plans are in the pipeline for the contracts user interface ?
Thankyou.

as long as there is still ANY performance impact (noticeable with fraps) created by the sound sub system, i will never activate it. (and i think i'm speaking for many 0.0 pilots here.)

Lot of PVE pilot don't use it also.
Going in a deadspace full of smoke, astroid, pirates and collidable.
Just passing trough the 1st make your fps droping half. Don't add sound or your screw to load another 25mb of sound. __ UI Overhaul Eve Links http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&thread |

SWEET!!!!
Related to this, can you please please please create documentation for the corp tools? Same for POS operation and such. They're so touchy and buggy that having a publicly documented operating manual would probably alleviate a LOT of headaches both for corporations and GMs needing to deal with petitions.
Thanks. ___________________________

Please, Tux, Ov, Kieron, for the love of God, fix the afk cloakers. Give us game mechanics and/or tools that prevent a single asshat from ruining scores of paying customer's gaming time (usually precious gaming time) with absolutely NO RISK and NO CHANCE of being caught.
Possible fixes which, I'm sure, you've most likely considered...
1) Make cloaks use enough cap to prevent afk cloakers. 2) Implement the scan probes that allow us to find cloakers. 3) Send mafioso goons to afk cloakers' mothers' houses (because they do live with mommy, I'm sure of it) and break the odd extremity or two.

I ran into a nanophoon yesterday who was pulling 10.5k/s, we had him dual webbed and still couldn't catch him. I think that if a BS wants to go that fast, there should be some serious, serious, drawbacks, like having 500 hp

In all honesty this blog has basically left me with a huge disappointed feeling. Primarily because almost all of the blog has been "Everything that you've all been looking forward too in Revelations 2 has been delayed! ...but look how pretty it's going to be in a years time!".
How about another blog giving us details of what's actually going to be in Revelations 2, because right now I can't really see anything to be really excited about.
