I'm not sure if you didn't read the blog or wether my blog was so incomprehensable
As I stated there, we're making all warfare more fun and goal oriented, THEN doing factional warfare, so that, in addition to all warfare, will be more fun and goal oriented.
And also, Graphics isn't delaying factional warfare. They are on totally seperate tracks. It's making warfare fun and more goal oriented that's delaying factional warfare. Hope that clearly explains it
No I read it :-). My appoligies if my statement wasn't completley together.
I guess to clerify, I am confused what 'objective oriented' combat means overall, and whether or not a mission-style "here's is your job as this faction, there's people on these/this faction also attempting to stop/achieve the same thing"? or is it more so something that would just seperate groups. I guess it remains to be seen.
Thanks Oveur.

it's good to see the new renders, I'll reserve jusdgement till I see those models running ingame.
whoever's doing the amarr gates has certainly been having fun - I wish it was me making those peices! it took me back to 2001, looking in amazement at the art quality of those early screenies. (whereas today, I look at what's ingame and wonder what village idiot had picked up a copy of maya for the first time, given some of the amateurish work in there).
Seeing those renders has really shown how much the standard has been raised, and you should be rightfully proud to be able to show such images, and I hope they transfer over to ingame engines with as much impact.
now, if that's gates, stations, and ships, there's only three other areas that need sorted...
Effects, Backgrounds, and Planets. effects, well, I hope they'll be as good a jump onward, of course, but please tell me you'll be giving those *very* dated texture peices for planets and the likes an overhaul? Preferably toning down the technicolour nebulae-in-every-system environments (black space... please, god, just some black space...) and making much more immersive planets. atmospheric halos? specular reflectivity on water and ice? less blurry surfaces on orbital objects? I suppose I can only dream of relief mapping on moons for hurtling past 20km above them in interceptors...
above all else, I look forward to being able to see all this work, and getting to start all over again finding the errors. professional jealousy, of course, you understand...

I just hope that Factional Warfare is fun in the Empire space and has got some good stories to play through and that it adds more meaning to playing the game.
It's not that I don't like 0.0 but being a slave to real humans is not fun for me.
I'd like to have some meaningful relations/missions with Empire Factions most importantly.

Is this true? I just hope that Factional Warfare is fun in the Empire space and has got some good stories to play through and that it adds more meaning to playing the game.
I'm quite disappointed with finding out Factional Warfare is now pushed back to the end of the year... I've stayed in my initial NPC corp (a little over two months so far) because I've been looking forward to joining the Gallente factional warfare corp, but it appears that won't be implemented until the end of the year now! So much for a relatively safe way for casual players/carebears to enjoy PvPing by getting a taste of it in Empire, instead of the current situation of getting ganked by ebil piewats in uberpwnmobiles in lowsec or moving out to 0.0 and taking on the obligations and responsibilities of being in an alliance.

CCP can talk all they want about their dedication to speed. But when the JV1V node explodes over and over, and it is revealed that CCP hadn't even moved the system to an isolated node prior to tonights fight, the promises ring very, very hollow. CCP knew a titan was in production, and that forces hostile to the titan builders knew it, and that the capital construction POS would come out of reinforced today.
Yet they were caught so off guard by the node instability that they had to wake up a dev at 6 a.m. to deal with the mess? Utterly inexcusable. The fact that there were probably too many pilots present for even an isolated node to handle is totally irrelevant. CCP didn't even try. Need for speed, indeed. |

Oveur, I wanna put a question to you.
In the talk of making warfare less "blobby", I have a feeling there isn't much you, CCP, can do about it, as this is largely due to the player base.
You don't NEED a 200+ fleet to take down a POS and capture a station, a couple dreads, support ships and gang ships will do the trick. What you do need the 200+ fleet for is securing the system.
The problem with the size of fleet battles these days is simply that, one side will always try out blob the other side, and if you can't you can bring everything you got simple to try and even the odds as much as you can fighting 2:3 is better than 1:3.
I just can't see what you can do to the game to beat this. You already implemented gang limitations and high rank skills to learn so that gang size will be kept down. People just create smaller fleets now, but still act as one.
Creating things like missions goals, "dissabling the POS weapons" and things like that with module subtargeting, is all nice in theroy, but in large scale warfare, it's just not gonna get used, not to the degree that you hope anyway.
We keep getting promised improved performace with each new patch and while there is, the performance increase is not keeping up with the decrease in performance. After a patch, there will be a 100-150 ship fleet fight and everyone will say it was so much fun, no lag, etc. 2 days later there will be 200-300 and everyone will complain again about lag, modules not activating, client crashes and/or node deaths.
I just think something drastic needs to happen, I have no idea what though...

So just to be clear, the new graphics are in Rev.3 but there is not a ETA on 3 atm, 1.4 in March...
Sounds good to me, I am really looking forward to the new UI.
I don't get the skillpoints section... I think I am missing something but oh well.
Keep up the good work guys, and get a patch notes up for tuesday!

If your¦e mining with four Peoples, it¦s better the last one will com with a BC fitted with Miningforemanlink Laser/Iceharvesting, so more income of Ore. Hanging around mindless in a BC. Nothing to do. Mayby an Ore Proccesing Ship with that Modul in Service? Mayby Capitalsize, beware of Macros. Linky
Or just a Light/Medium Freighter(Capitalsize)/Heavy Transportship(Transportclass)? For transport of only 2-3 BS? Linky

With the new ship re-hashes (very, very sexah), will you be re-examining the weapon mount point maps as well?
One of the things that threw me off flying a Mega was that it looked great just coming out of dock, but when you put blasters on it, there aren't any real "this is where the guns go" points in the texture; the turrets end up all over creation on an otherwise smooth ship, and it's very disconcerting to see a large blaster balanced on the front-end thingies of the 'thron.
In short, are you going to make sure all these new sexy ships aren't ruined by wierd weapon placement?

So since there is still not a single word about the new regions and how it is impossible to mine or produce there self- sufficiently, do I conclude correctly that you do not view them as flawed? Or is it just that you do not view them as a part of Revelations that needs attention?

And a question : I presume that modules that will be made always on ( sensor boosters anyone) will get a negative cap recharge penalty to offset the cap use they used to have ?

"We'll be improving Starbases, Stations, Sovereignty. It's not just the blowing up part which we're making better, it's the entire thing"
Any chance for a future dev blog soon on the changes to the way Sovereignty, system control, and the role the POS plays in 0.0 warfare? As someone who deals with a large portion of the logistical side of this game- having to setup 51% POS coverage in a system at about 3-4 hours per POS (and which can sometimes number up to 30+ POSes per system), fueling all of those poses, and handling the jumping and hauling of fuel for all of this, I'm very interested in seeing what changes will be made to this. Right now, it's very, very easy to get burnt out of this game for a few days after having to do all of the necessary things to play a part in keeping an alliance running, and I hope that CCP recognizes this and has plans to implement changes. This is supposed to be a game, and games are supposed to be fun- I understand that it can't be too easy to do all this since it's supposed to be harder to hold your own space, but I'm sure other logistical members from plenty of other alliances would agree that it's just extremely not fun to have to spend 3/4ths of your time in the game doing insanely large amount of boring tasks that are required to keep the wheels of a war machine doing.

Edited by: Tollpan on 19/02/2007 00:38:27 Lag is going to ruin the game.
And after more than 4 years of Eve (incl. beta), CCP is still not capable of solving that problem. On the other hand, they want they steered the gameplay into the direction of fleetbattle.
It's like an car manufacturer who develops a sporstcar with an engine that goes off, if you drive faster than 100 km/h.

Hi EVE
Get really excited when seeing those new ships.
They are Just great! But it seems that the character of different factions is not so distinguishable now. (Like Amarr is golden, Gallente is in green)
So will those new ships be more "character" ?? (after all, ships are the only thing you feel playing against different people in game)

Yeah, i know, but that¦s not the point, the BC is a ship to fight with, not to mine.
Or is it the great "Supportclass", cause it is the only shiptype that can fit the Linkmoduls?
The real point is the Linkmodul on a capitalship, that can refine the Ore too, a ship for industrialists(not Macros), not a ship like now.
Errhm, yeah, you can use it for mining too..... you really want to mine?

Everyone I ever talked to about it says the same thing, and it always seems like the most helpfull and cool people get stuck with that job. Just another mindless, boring, repetitive task generated by successfull 0.0 ownership requirements.
Most 0.0 Corpies have heard this before "omg, we need some fuel, pc in Emp please....buy up as much as you can bring it asap!!!111"
No wonder the Alliance aspect of 0.0 is so unpopular with some people. |

Thumbs up, looking good going forward.
To all the negative forum trolls, look, we screamed about getting the lag/crashes/etc fixed rather than sticking in new stuff and now CCP is going down that path. See they actually do listen, well, at least they filter it before listening to the forum base.
Patience is a virtue. Keep the sp counts going, that is some interesting info.
