For you yes considering you fly and carry trash supposedly not that any one would care if you came into a camp since all space pinatas = potential candy.
Pros of paying up 1. Time Saved 2. Ship not in scrap metal form 3. You can move on and go about your business
The cons of paying up 1. You lose a percentage of your ships cost. 2. If you are a pride glutton you'll go slit your wrists
The Pros of Not paying up
1. You sure showed those ebil pirates oh wait your ship is now being salvaged
2. You can now smack talk about how your playstyle is so much better and how you work for your isk by sitting on a roid enjoying hot stripminer on veld action or going in the belts shooting NPC's that are dumber than a sack of potatoes.
The cons of not paying up
1. You now have to go shopping to get your ship back together and loss an ass load of time trying to get the best deal but at least you showed those pirates who's boss right? *Snip* Not appropriate, email [email protected] with a link to the sig for a reason why - hutch |

What time spent putting my ship back together?
A fairly unequipped Badger? I have several.
I've lost two in the past two months. Gee, that's a terrible loss rate, isn't it? No, I haven't mined since my first week in EVE. I don't fly missions, either.
I've found that trading and hauling across regions through low sec is the way to make isk (which is all I want to do while waiting for my skills to train up).
Gee, your way is SO superior...

obviously you've never fitted a barge... it's a ***** to fit with such CPU grubbing modules, and unlike you, mining with a barge that has no module fitted doesn't quite make it.
Continue hauling trash.

Originally by: T'Renn 10 seconds is not enough time. Sometimes players get antsy and can't wait long when demanding a ransom. I use a ransom channel as do a lot of other ransoming pirates, but even in there I just give an amount and a time frame - typically 30 seconds or so. If they don't accept the invitation into my ransom channel, they die. If they don't call off their drones or stop repairing after they've had enough time to read the MOTD, they die. Gotta be quick but ransoms really are a good thing and next time I hope you get a pirate that's a bit more of a pro tbh.
Thats not true that 10 sec isnt enough if he would go straight and give money he would easily do it. He was just thinking if he should pay or he was trying to get out. I have offen ransome 10 sec are well enough if not then poor him. Cant see what he's complaining about anyway he didnt pay he died simple

30-45 seconds is a good amount of time and in response to the trash hauler of course you don't pay ransoms since all you carry is trash and your frickin hauler is being made by every one and their fedo up in jita. Who the hell ransoms a hauler anyways!? Never again are you allowed to whine about not training Combat Skills |

Well too much time can get his m8 to come in. Personally thats my reason why i use only very short time. And ransoming haulers never done it before but i might do it if i knew only 1 good item would be in the cargo and i wouldnt wanna take the risk if it would destroy or not but normaly i dont carry around Ship scanner so they just get blown up

Ransom a ship worth less than 1 million? Some guy once told me he'd let me go if I paid him 2.5 million for my cormorant. Bloody idiot, I would have paid 500,000 for it, but nooooooo...
Anyways, no one cares about the hauler, mindless petty things to ransom, better to pop them and inspect the wreck for loot rather than waste your time. A barge is a respectable target, and the pilot may actually be able to pay the ransom. Not to mention its an easy, say 4 million ransom, on some of the barges. Some pirates are price gougers, and if they make their money solely through ransoming, those are the poor ones.

Verily Sir,
Yea be the most scurvatious, slanderous insolent rock lubbing wretch i did ever have the mispleasure to lay rockets upon! In future ye be getting no ransome demand merely a speedy passage to the local clone vat.
merrily and verily yours,
Captain No Beard. (former petty officer of the Red Navy faction)
PS Do you want to buy any strip miners? I have two for sale ,some slight wear.

Originally by: Agent Li Oh, as far as I'm concerned, I would never pay a ransom.
Really, why?
Originally by: Agent Li I fly a worthless Badger.
Ah, ok.
Originally by: Agent Li And I have NO implants.
Ah, ok again.
Originally by: Agent Li Gee, I can't figure why a ransom would be worth it.
Well, you just explained to yourself why you can't figure it. Please see above. Though quite why you continue to argue as if you speak for the majority (i.e., those with something to lose), is a mystery.

I'm not speaking for the majority - I said "I would never pay a ransom".
Why anyone would fly around in a ship they couldn't afford to lose is beyond me though.

In my opinion the first thing you should do if you are indeed willing to pay a ransom is spam
"ILL PAY ILL PAY PLEASE DONT KILL ME"
this gives the ransomer a clear indication that you are willing to pay the ransom , thus hopefully buying you enough time to actually pay.

the amount of time giving is completely up to the pirate. The only thing frowned upon is demanding a ransom, and then killing the ship anyways once they have paid.
