Great war draws players to EVE whether they're old or new, war might end someday but players are always learning new skills and perhaps... we can keep players more engaged in their own character progression?
A fascinating thing about video game is that we can see our character leveled up/ made a progress what if right now it takes 2 weeks or 1 month to see your character lv up? Are we going to hold the same amount of passion 1 month later, are we going to feel engaged same as before?
Instead of separating skill into 5 levels, how about separating it into 20 or more levels (overall bonus remains the same ofc) by doing so players can see their character progress every couple of days instead of weeks
btw does long skill training time have any correlation with unsubscription? |

The last level would still take most of the time because skill progression is specifically designed in an exponential manner to provide diminishing returns. |

In all computer games it takes longer to reach the next level as stated above so EvE is no different than all of the rest.
If you are playing to "level up" then you are playing the wrong game. This character has more than 100 million SP and I will be honest I could sell more then 50 million of that to make ISK and it would have ZERO affect on what I do, how I do it or the outcome of doing it. Based on what I do with this character his training was "end game" 50 million SP ago. I play him on a consistent basis and there are things I may do in the future so I keep his training queue stacked full because, why not.
Way to much focus on skills and not enough on having fun is one of the primary problems we have with new EvE players. To many new players coming into EvE with the "I have to level up to compete" mentality is another of the problems. I have to reach "end game" to be able to compete is yet another problem we have with new players here in EvE.
All of these and many more are perceived as problems with EvE and they are all false because they are based on the grind for level and I have to reach end game to compete mentalities that permeate virtually all of the rest of the computer games in the world. In reality the character skills training system is the great equalizer that keeps many of us coming back and playing this game over the years. So you need to turn your mind set around and look at it from another perspective, on of a player with a very busy life and very little time for computer games. For us this game is a joy because we are always on even footing character skills wise and our successes or failures are more likely to be caused by us as players.
Besides all of that character skills are not as much of a factor as many new players think the are. I sat at my sons last night and watched as a 60 ship battle was literally decided by the actions of a 3 week old character. Overall skills had nothing to do with this, having a character with the proper skills handled by a player that knew what to do, and having them in the right place and at the right time turned the battle and stories like this are not unusual in EvE.
Going back to basics there are many here that choose EvE simply because the skills training system balances the game for us. With a real life that includes a time demanding job, a family and other commitments many of us are not able to play for multiple hours every day and in fact may not be able to log in for a week or more at a time and yet that never puts us at a disadvantage character skills wise.
Older players versus the new players is an oft stated reason why the skills training system in EvE is bad and that is a lie. In ALL computer game those with older characters will ALWAYS have a character skills based advantage the only difference is how you get there. In the other game you get there by the number of hours you play in EvE you get there by time passing. Given the major disadvantage my characters are at in all the other games I play simply because I have a life away from computer games, I would choose EvE in the blink of an eye because here I am on even ground.
To end this, character skills and how they are trained are not the problem in EvE, the expectations and misunderstandings of the system by new players is the source of the problem. |

I doubt this is necessary. Whilst i believe progression is a factor for retainment, EVE's roof is nearly three decades of training. What this boils down to is validating instant gratification types. If you're too impatient to wait weeks for a skill, you'll probably get bored and frustrated with the other parts of the game anyways.

Are people's attention spans now so tiny that skill level progressions have to be broken down into even smaller segments to keep their attention? What next - micro-skill achievements that ping every five minutes and give you a ribbon? Sorry, this is ridiculous.

EvE is hard. It's harder if you're stupid.
I couldn't have said it better.
Hello, Mr Carebear. Would you like some cheese with that whine?

From the negative feedback Rise has gotten the last couple of days, I doubt CCP will actually make it a thing. |
