Could someone explain the skill tree too me a bit more please.
At present for example I have the following, bearing in mind I am a new player, just as an example, I wont list them all as it would take all day:
CLARITY II (rank 3) level 2 0% done EMPATHY II (rank 1) level 2 0% done IRON WILL IV (rank 1) level 4 0% done LEARNING III (rank 1) level 3 43% done
working from left too right how do the skills build, the first one is Clarity II how high does the II go too?? then it says rank 3 how high does the rank 3 go too??? etc, etc.
Hope that makes sense and sorry if its a lame question, but thanks in advance for any help.............

Edited by: Gloria Stitz on 16/02/2007 10:29:46 I don't know where the roman numerals are coming from, but that is just repeating the level you have the skill at.
Rank is a time multiplier. A rank 3 skill takes 3x as long to train as a rank 1 skill.
For example, you have clarity at level 2, which is a rank 3 skill.
edit: the % done is how far you have trained the next level of that skill so far. ------------- 'Don't try to learn Eve all at once, otherwise your brain will explode' - Albert Einstein ------------ |

I am not sure what you mean by how high. All skills can be trained to lvl 5 and no higher than that. Read the skill guides at the skills subforum. They will answer any question you might have.

Edited by: Diamond Valen on 16/02/2007 10:36:02 I am still a bloody newbie myself, but what i learned is that Instant Recall and Analytical Mind are most important to raise first, cause that skills improve memory and intelligence wich are both the abilities wich set how long you need for all the other skills from the learning skills, like that skills you listed in your posting. If i am wrong i hope one of the oldies here correct me^^

Level is how far you have learnt the skill, on a scale of 1-5. Rank is a measure of how hard the skill is to learn. Training level 4 to 5 on a rank 3 skill takes three times as long as it would on a rank 1 skill.

Rank is a static value and never changes. It can range from 1 to 16 and is an indication of how hard/long a skill is.

Edited by: Diamond Valen on 16/02/2007 13:14:19 But doesnt rank depend on the char build? I mean the race, starting corporation and such? The choices the player made at creation?
A Soldier will have rank 1 at all gunnery skills but rank 3 or more at miner and/or trade skills.
And skills wich requires other skills before they can aquired have a higher rank, too...i think.
like laser turret specialize and such.

Rank does not depend on anything. Rank is a fixed value for any given skill.
A soldier does not have rank 1 at all gunnery skills - it probably starts with rank 1 gunnery skills, but that does not mean that all gunnery skills are rank 1. And the skill 'mining' is a rank 1 skill for everyone, even soldiers.
Your choices at character creation only determine your starting attributes and your starting skills. They do not influence anything else. =AFK=

Rank is a fixed multiplier of how long the skill takes to train.
Now, the soldier's attributes are probably going to be more geared towards combat skills, so mining/trade/science type skills will take him longer to train.
