I don't watch tv and have been talking about anime in japan but card captors is a poor example for your argument as it wasn't even a real anime. It was just a children's cartoon based on one. Compare shows like legend of the galactic heroes and card captor sakura to lucky star and potemayo if you want an example of how anime aimed at adults is on the decline. |

I liked it for the Delgagos on the soundtrack and for the lulz factor involved in the girls shooting guns bigger than they were. It's good but not brilliant.

it wasn't? how come? Animes will range various ages from stuff like the old age and venerable original Astro boy and some more corny stuff like Marco or Heidi, wich are great to show your kids from where the mother of all family-friendly animation (even western one) came from. Or, if you have older kids (12-16 ages) you can show them Future boy Conan, wich is a great series.
also, if you say that about CCS then you haven't seen CCS. I have to admit that I saw it back in the day, and I can say that while it has it's kiddie moments, it also has moments where you can't say that 2 male characters are (presumably) lovers to your kids, or the 2 teacher-student love relationship that appears on the series, one of them being the relationship being the main character's parents relationship.
tell me, how cartoony is that?
anyways, we're being a bit OT here, and we better stop before it gets too flamy. ---

Just to clarify there are actually two different card captor shows. "Card captor sakura" the original japanese anime and an american adaptation called "card captors" which is a complete remake. The editing and censoring you were referring to was from the american cartoon and has little to do with the real anime. |

I know that, and tbh the "remake" was made by the company that licensed the series for exhibition in the US tv's, so that the series would be more suited for a target audience with a lower age than the one that CCS was for. I thought I mentioned it in the first reply to your post? ---

This is pretty much true of any anime that is licensed for showing on TV in America by anyone other than Adult Swim. Especially 4kids.
Some of the stuff they do is highly amusing, especially when they take something like .hack//SIGN and try to massively dumb it down to cater to 8-year-olds. Its pretty safe to assume that anything shown in America isn't true to the original, because more often than not, you'll be right. There also seems to be this obsession among the media companies that one has to try to copy the Japanese voices rather than try to make realistic-sounding English voices that fit the characters. This of course causes epic failure, because Americans can't exactly copy Japanese voice actors very well.

Amen to that. I just don't watch dubbed anime if I want to like it or have seen it subtitled in the past. ---------------- Tarminic - 29 Million SP in Forum Warfare Play EVE: Downtime Madness v0.76.2 |

I agree with this. After seeing Dave came out me and a few freinds seriously debated how much it would cost us to setup a subbed broadcast channel on digital or stream over the internet. Problem is - parents in the west seem to think cartoons = children, I had to explain to the family that quite a few parts of Akira would most likely leave my lil bro scarred for a while

I find it to be an interesting watch-once anime. Speculation afterwards will simply consist of what to watch next.
Originally by: Grimpak did you get the whole 3 series and the OVA (Banner of the stars III)?
it is only interesting when you get all of those, altho I still want to see how both of them end
It took a large amount of trawling through torrent sites, but I managed to get all of them. I also bought the books. The translation makes them a horrible read but theres loads of detail they left out in the anime. Pity only crest is translated so far.
Oh, and speaking of dubs, Full Metal Panic has a great dub, so I was freed from reading the screen while watching that, which was nice. Just a pity it wasn't a very good anime... I think its worth trying the dub of a succesful anime once, you might get lucky (probably not though). -

Agreed that the FMP is a one of a kind in terms of dubbing actualy working. Apart from Kaname..... I actualy bought Crest of the Stars on Dvd because it was going for a tenner. Now looking for Banner of the Stars. Watched Episode one of Gunslinger - interesting and awesome on the gun scene.

I would seriously recommend legend of the galactic heroes to you. It's probably the most epic anime ever made and is similar to crest/banner in a lot of ways. |

Yeah, it makes me laugh too--maybe //DUSK, but SIGN?!?! That thing is probably the slowest anime I've seen that isn't in the realm of Ergo Proxy, Lain, and Texhnolyze.

I have watched the film and the first episode of the OVA. So far the plot seems to be that in this huge interstellar war there are only two competent leaders, one on each side, and each are placed under the command of a particularly stupid leader, who they must go along with for a short time before disobeying them in order to save themselves or their fleet. -

Go to Haruhi.tv, the official website. You will notice it has a fake 404 error. Click the button on the page, then type in the 5 boxes the letters K N S A K and hit enter. You will then get some text typed on your screen in a fake xterm box, which translates to the following:
Quote: YUKI.N> When you read this, I probably won't be me.
YUKI.N> The very fact that this message is displayed should mean that you, I, Haruhi Suzumiya, Mikuru Asahina, and Itsuki Koizumi all exist.
YUKI.N> That is the key. You have found the answer.
YUKI.N> This is an emergency escape program. Press the ENTER key to run it, or press any other key not to run it. Once it is launched, you will have an opportunity to correct space-time. However, there is no guarantee you will succeed or be able to return.
YUKI.N> This program can only be run once. After it is activated, it will be erased. If you decided not to launch it, it will be erased without ever running. Ready?
This implies that the next series will be based on the novel "The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzimiya."
Now an actual date, not just crappy viral marketing? Nobody knows

Ergo proxy is awesome, has to be one of my favorite animes.
Also, why was One Piece only mentioned once?! its so awesome i highly recommend it! HOWEVER! PLEASE for the love of >insert deity here< DONT under any circumstances watch the horrible bastard child that is the 4kids dub. They got rid of the catchy theme songs replaced it with some ****ty rap took out all the blood and anything that might offend the delicate little flowers that are american children.
