I've been flying my Deimos quite some time. Imho fitting a plate is a very bad idea. Deimos is not a fast ship but the plate makes it even less agile. You need to get in range as fast as possible. If you don't you cannot put any reasonable damage on your target. Fitting a strong tank is pointless too, because you're not gonna sustain it. Your only goal is to take out the target fast. Nothing else matters. So you'll need: 3 Magstabs, MWD, Injector and 5 guns
Now you see you've got 3 spare lowslots. There is no item to help improving your damage output. so fit 1 eanm, 1 explo hardener and a rep.
You've got 1 spare med slot. As you can see you cannot really solo. You need either a lad scrambling or webbing, depending on what you fit. I'd fit the webber and have a lad with a way better scan resolution scramble the target.
As for the guns you can decide. Either you use ions and waste the 6th hi slot. Or you use electrons and fit a med nos to this 6th slot. You'll have approx 5% more damge if you choose to use ions. The nos on the other hand can be usefull against small targets.
Imho it's a horrible waste of isk to fit 2 pg-rigs just to be able to fit neutrons instead of ions. Neutrons are only another 5% more damage than ions. this is not worth investing like 60m or 80m or w/e. I'd fit agility-mods to be at max speed earlier. This way you get in range faster and can start pummling on him earlier. Fitting hybrid damage/rof rigs is pointless too, because they a stacking nerfed with magstabs.
Just my thoughts. It's not a great allrounder. But it's still fun flying it.

You know this statement is silly. In fact the battlecruisers are the most suitable ships to kill any cruiser in a 1on1 situation. So they do great against most HACs too. This is like saying an interceptor sucks because most assault ships can kill them.
Just because a Deimos sucks in 1on1 against this or that ship doesn't make her useless. Maybe you should stop thinking of 1on1 engagements, because the vast majority of engagements are not 1on1.
But then again, you're obviously "l33t"...

what you gonna do against a ship with 1+ nos + ok tank?
i expect a good answer!
About the NOS dude: Considering i have my lad with me who is not only scrambling but also webbing him? Use the injector to activate the MWD and run like a chicken. You're not gonna win this fight in a Deimos.
About the tank dude: It depends on how well he's gonna hit me. There is no ship, that can tank a Deimos forever. If he doesn't hit me he's going down. If he is obviously going to hit me i don't engage.
You have to picky about your targets. I'm not saying Deimos is teh wtfbbq. But i still like it.
