Edited by: Wind Carier on 23/02/2007 13:55:26 Greetings everyone, I was just wandering if mineral trading is dead. I am a new player and only recently found out about it, but wherever I check there seem to be HUGE buy orders for minerals and at prices much higher then I would profit from.
In any case, thank you to anyone who replies. --- Bigger. Better. Wind Carier. |

I might be misunderstanding the question but here goes (bear in mind I'm not a trader).
Trading within the same region by buying low, selling high, isn't going to net you much (if any) profit. Trading between Regions and finding one where product A, including minerals, is sold cheap and bought for a lot in another Region.. that's a start.
How about having a look at some of the stations on the empire side of 0.0 routes/bottlenecks to some alliance territory. I bet you could find some stations paying a decent amount for any minerals :)
Anyway, in short - no, trading is never dead. It's just finding the routes that can be difficult.

Thanks for reply. What I was asking is a bit different, but no matter. I hope some traders out there will understand. Now, about what you said: I am pretty scared of going into 0.0 (or even any low sec) space. Suppose I have BadgerII, Is there any way I can make it feasable to be able to at least run away from some pirates on the way? I mean it takes me 10 seconds just to warp...

Edited by: Remedios Sonrisa on 23/02/2007 14:09:52 I don't think trading is dead at all. Some items may just stagnate for awhile, or you could be in a region where the resource you seek to sell or buy are less in demand.
If you plan to do inter-regional trading (suggested) but do not want or have alts located in other places to check the prices, then try this site for a quick check of the prices:
Market Browser
It has helped me a bit to see which regions may have better sell or buy prices. Bear in mind that the data can be old and are not real time. Nonetheless, you can get a good feel of the trend. ....

Right now there is still a massive run on T2 battleships and rigs both of which gobble up minerals like nothing else(increased demand), which has caused a shortage in most minerals, especially with many of the carebears having switched from mining to salvaging(reduced supply). Low supply + high demand = lots of buy orders with inflated prices. It's a good time to mine or steal ore, but since this shortage is pretty much across the board it's not a good time to trade minerals. If you don't like mining you might want to switch to trading ammo for a while. |

There are come T2 industrials whitch have bonus to warp strenght +2 plus some modules caled warp stabilizers can help you lower chance to be scramled. Or in case your cargo is small enough to fit into inty (speed) or covertops (cloak) is another way to imptove your survivability when moving some cargo.

Low: 1x nano or istab, the rest WCS Med: Shield extenders in med
At least you will usually warp unless someone decided to bump you repeatedly.

I like to think of trading within a region as more like arbitrage than trading. You are looking for temporary price imbalances. With trading you are looking for supply and demand differences between regions, preferable with differences going both ways so you do not have to haul empty one way. When I log on I like to check the intra region prices of minerals. If there is a variation, I buy it. If there is nothing profitable I go mining. Arbritrage if fun but I don't think you can make a living at it.

Well, yes, mineral trading might be dead.
The thing with tradehubs like Jita is that everyone knows about them and so they set up their mining operation, if possible, nearby. Or, option B, players with a Freighter can pretty much haul a huge quantity of minerals from the outskirts of space to Jita, thereby providing very stiff competition to what you're trying to do.
Your best bet would be to:
a. Find a region of space that doesn't have a huge buy order for minerals, indicating that there's no freighter operator there.
b. Get a freighter yourself, set up such a buy order, and haul it in when it fills.
