I like the idea, but I agree with the guy who said it needs a bank feature. =/
Good on ya, though.
Would it be alright to ask people in local, for example, if they want to buy one, and then finalize it via the secure transfer system? That's the one thing I'm not clear about. --- <Pallantre> 'should i join snigg or veto'? <Pallantre> and i thought.. thats like arguing whether you should join bloods or crips |

The selling of GTC for ISK is an ongoing practice. This is not a new type of sale, but a new way to secure the transactions and reduce the scams. They did not recently add selling, just made it safer for both players involved in the trade.

Edited by: Evil J on 24/02/2007 13:35:49 ok here's one question..
I have alt whos on standby (expired account). I wanna buy him now 30 days GTC and all ISK I have, I have on my main char. DO I need now to send money on my alt ( expired ) and then log on his account management page to buy GTC, or I can buy him GTC somehow from my main char? SO again, most important: Can I sand ISK on expired account and then use that to buy him GTC?
tnx

The alt needs to make the purchase, so the alt needs to have the ISK available. Try to send some ISK to the inactive alt and as long as that completes the character SHOULD have the ISK to make the purchase via the accounts management page. If the ISK does not transfer, then you will have to first reactivate the account by providing a CC or a valid GTC code number.

First, buying directly from CCP would be stupid for CCP to implement. This means they get no money. GTC selling still involves SOMEONE buying the code, and that's what's important.
Giving you the code after a transaction defeats the purpose of the thing being secure now. The only way I could see this happenning is if: 1.Seller inputs code and is verified. 2.Buyer buys, NEW code is given to buyer, to use or resell or whatever. This eliminates the problem with someone selling their one code multiple times and everyone he sells it to just banking it. It would make the sellers code "used" and the buyer would have a completely new, valid code that isn't known by anyone else.

I just tried out the new system by selling a GTC. I got the object error others complained about, but I hit the back button on the browser and the sell order showed up on the list. I told the buyer to claim it and it worked.
It took a minute to get the ISK, and my wallet icon did not start glowing when I got it. The ISK shows up in my new total, but nothing in journal or transaction log. So I guess I would say that the system works.

I apologize in advance for my ignorance, but could somebody post a quick, simple but complete writeup about what selling Game Time Codes means, how the translation between real money and ISK functions, and and why you would do it. Thanks for your help.

Well, we don't need this. Would only make sense If you want to resell GTC's, and GTC as -Ingame trade good of 3rd Parties was not really intended as it gots allowed.
Instead i Suggest that after you buyed the GTC you manually need to "activate" this new Key via a Switch in the Account Management. In this way you could always Buy cheap in advance and Use them While needed and still have the Opporunity to "save the 14 days" you are off to Holidays.
Even if an Offline mate (comming back from WoW, Vanguard or another trial, beta or game) could get easy an new GTC. He checks his wallet on the Character section, (you could wire/lean him money) then he walks up to the GTC sell Section of the Forum (wich should really get seperated together with Char Sales from other WTS/Auction Stuff) looking up a seller and then buys the Code.
I had my Problems with the new System to understand at first, but the longer i think about it, the more i really start to like it.
summ up: WE need a switch to manually activate the buyed GTC at any Time as an Option in account management page (no need to show the GTC, prevents reselling)
Please, please, please a seperated section for GTC's and Chars for sell, would really help

CCP, please just make it so a timecard code can be converted into an in-game item. Call it a "pilots license" that stacks and can be traded on the market just like a skill book.
Then people can buy a GTC, convert it to an in-game item and use the current market that is already implemented.
For expired accounts, they can use the current system.
Resellers couldn't sell the same code multiple times if the buyer converts it to an in-game item, and you could even sell GTC's yourself on the account management page and people wouldn't have to go to other websites to start the process.
If you implemented it this way, someone could:
1 Go to the account page and buy 5 GTC's 2 Convert those 5 GTC's to "pilots licenses" 3 Log in and put them on the market for xxx isk
There would be less crud filling up the forums, less petitions, a better experience for all involved.

All in all I like the new system, though as a potential customer for isk traded GTC's I can also relate to points made by resellers and I think there is a place for such services (which in my eyes increase availability for sellers and buyers alike) unless the system would go full auto where one could sell and purchase GTC's from an ESCROW like market.
Now as to implementation it'll get a negative mark from me. As Langhorn, I too have tried to accept the offered and agreed upon transaction and get the same error.
Quote: ERROR: There is insufficient result space to convert a money value to int.
English isn't my native language and my attempts to interpret the above left me clueless (although I doubt that it makes that much more sense to the native speakers). Upon closer inspection of the web page given offer I find the displayed "Asking amount(ISK)"-line questionable, because it includes the letters "ISK" in it's value (example: "Asking amount(ISK): ISK50.00" instead of just reading "Asking amount(ISK): 50.00"). Reading that TruthTragik had problems as a seller to enter the asking amount correctly, further increases my suspicion. Therefor I would suggest that a 'sanity check' would be made before a GTC enters the process and not after it's locked in there for 48h and a buyer with the best intentions appears powerless to accept the swap. In short, this system needs to be idiot proof. Players of EVE do foolish things, I've done so as have others. To quote Einstein: "Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former." or as I read on some characters bio: "Two things in the EVE universe appear to be in abundance, veldspar and the stupidity of players" - so please CCP try to increase the failsafty of this feature.

After reading the majority of this thread, and not all because it started repeating, I realize problems with this new service.
CCP basically killed GTC speculation for ISK. Most of the people selling GTC's aren't buying them for cash. They buy them from ISK from other people for cheaper and resell.
I don't think I would use this service because it instantly applies the GTC to the account that bought it.
The problem with banking the GTC's for someone who bought them is the seller could turn around and sell the same code again.
Easy solution to that is invalidate the code that was sold when it is transfered, and generate a new code for the buyer. The buyer then can resell or add to an account or give to a buddy.
This is in your best financial interest CCP. -=Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds=- |

Well if i cant use GTCs manualy whenever i want to its CRAP, CRAP, MEGA CRAP! Its bad idea to automaticly add codes to account.
I was buying 90d GTC from guy who told me that hes selling via new rules. First ive received evemail with information that im buying 90d gtc for 350m then i confirmed, sended isks and next evemail which ive reveived looked like this :
Qty Description Comment Price Amount 1 EVE Online 90 days prepaid access code $38.99 $38.99 ** Code: XXXXXXXXXXXXXX
So he used new rules or just sended me regular evemails like in old rules? Code worked of course. I could give it to friend etc.
So....? Im confused.

I'm not too happy about this system. The verification is great, it means less petition work. The lack of personal freedom however is not.
I realize that if you buy a code and don't use it right away, the seller could potentially resell it.
It's an easy fix really.
Make it so that once the system verifies the code sale from one character to another, it registers the code with that account. It's now added to a "time code bank" on that account. Now only that account can use this code, unless he sells it to someone else, in which case the code gets registered with the new buyers account and deleted from the old buyers account.
This would allow people to trade codes between their own accounts or corp members, it would allow resellers to buy and sell codes and it would eliminate all scamming. Personal freedom and less petitions in one package.
See the light. /Pandora

Nice one!
I'm not sure if I was the first to say it on the forums. But I suggested a web based system ages ago.
The buyers can play without getting ripped off. It also stops all this selling reselling crap that allows people to make tons of isk from RL money or generating stupid amounts of isk from RL items instead of investing time in the game.
Gonna have to invest some time ina ctually playing the game now aren't we?
For those people who are sad enough to buy virtual money they stll can. /start sig I love old characters that post 'I've beeen playing the game three years' when I know their account has been sold on. /end sig |

Can we please ban GTC sales from the sell forums now?
PLEASE? Pretty please? with sugar on top?
Once we get rid of GTC and Character sales, the sell forums can become a useful GAME tool again and not METAGAME tool. ---

Using the forums makes it a "metagame tool" no matter what is being traded.

Good catch! I read right over that line. At least CCP does check the codes to ensure they are valid if they don't check their own spelling.

Not true. It was once a great tool for auctions and trading game assets. Characters and GTCs deal with things that allow you to play the game, not the game itself. ---
