I've been looking for a cheaper laser platform to assist a buddy in doing level 4's til he can do them on his own. I just want to take a jump clone and a fairly cheap BS out to where he runs his missions and assist him. I was considering just fitting an Abaddon or Apoc with t2 beams so I can sit at range and unload, but I haven't really looked into it too much yet.
Any suggestions before I start playing with EFT? |

Navy Apoc is best for missions, definitely, but since you're looking for something cheap I'd go with a tach cap boosted Abaddon. |

Id go for an abaddon as it has more dps, but apocalypse its also a very nice platform, more related to tank tho. |

I don't know, the CCC's allow your cap to recharge a lot faster when you're not actually using it all. Sure EFT will tell you you last longer with semiconductors but when you ARE out, it won't recharge as fast.
Personally I don't think the Abaddon's cap issues are worth it and I'd just fly the Navy apoc. |

I'd suggest the napoc too, but the OP was requesting cheap ships. |

Scorch apoc, very nice dps, and very easy on cap (im talking cap stable running everything including an AB). Cheapish if you use a normal apoc, can be replicated on a napoc if you want shiner. |

the tank is there to catch whatever comes your way, and the armor bots are to help out your main tank. or Med HH II's tocatch scramming/webbing frigates.
you can buy two of these ships just for the price of the large armor rep the others are saying for you to use. |

Depends a bit on your skills... and if your buddy tanks most rats or not, but an Armageddon could work as well.

3 Cap Recharger II
7 Mega Pulse Laser II, Scorch L
3 Large Capacitor Control Circuit I
Garde II x5
reduce capacitor mods to get more gank / tank But in this mode it can bring about 600 dps 900ish with drones.
Personally I'd take a ganky Abbadon with 8 Tachs for Missionsupport .. because I love the look and feel :)
At the moment I'm testing some 1k + dps Navy geddon setups, but those contain to many faction mods to make a cheapish missionship.
_______ edit: .. damn somebody beat me to mentioning the geddon.. and I have to admit, the RR idea is quite nice |

Bill Serkoff2 wrote:Fact: CCCs are better No, SCMC are better, because of calculus.
Seriously. It's the area under the cap recharge curve that matters, as you're not going to spend all your time at exactly your point of peak recharge (which is what makes CCCs seem better). Whether SCMC are worth twice the price is another thing, of course.
BTW, you should be cap managing to keep yourself close to peak, not trying to be cap stable or running your reps until you go dry and then warping out. SCMCs also make this easier, as they make the target of 25-35% cap larger in absolute terms. |

Both these fits are good less experienced players, with good flexibility, easy fitting and good capacitor life.
Cheap and T1
Huge range, huge capacitor, good damage for T1 guns. Use Imperial Navy Ammo (15% more damage and they last a very, very long time).
[Apocalypse, PvE - Low Skill] x1 Large Armor Repairer x3 Mission Specific Hardener x1 Beta Reactor Control: Capacitor Power Relay I x2 Heat Sink
x1 Cap Recharger or 100MN Afterburner (Mission dependant) x3 Tracking Computer, Optimal Range
x3 Mega Modulated Pulse Energy Beam I, Imperial Navy Crystals
x3 Large Capacitor Control Circuit I
Cheap and T2
Same qualities as above, better damage projection.
[Apocalypse, PvE - T2 Guns] x1 Large Armor Repairer x3 Mission Specific Hardener x2 Heat Sink x1 CPU Enhancer
x2 Cap Recharger x2 Tracking Computer, Scripted (Swap an afterburner if needed here)
x8 Mega Pulse Laser II, Scorch or I.N. Multi
x1 Large Auxiliary Nano Pump I x2 Large Capacitor Control Circuit I |

skip DC2, put ANP and upgrade the meta hardeners to t2
a pulse apoc is also serious fun as support:
[Apocalypse, PvE Pulses] 3x Heat Sink II 4 leftover whatevers
Tracking Computer II, Optimal Range Tracking Computer II, Tracking Speed Cap Recharger II Cap Recharger II
8x Mega Pulse Laser II, Scorch L
whatever rigs
gets cap stable 580 dps on guns with superb tracking
you should have 2 of each script in the hold, with 2 optimals it is possible to reach out to 80km with 580dps (a 3bcu raven does 380) can also move mods from mids to lows and fit some ecm/remote eccm/tracking enhancers/webs to help your main. |

If your buddy is getting close to where he can do L4s, probably his main issue lies in being unable to fit an acceptable tank while maintaining his dps.
My recommendation would be to focus on a cap-stable, very heavy tank first and then just fit whatever DPS will let you keep it up. Then go in, grab aggro, and go get coffee while your friend runs around pewing things in a gank ship of whatever flavour.
For reference, when I do the "help people with L4s" thing I generally bring a dual-repped domi and assign my drones to the buddy. It has a single small laser for grabbing initial aggression on everything. |
