I agree with the OP, and think a few popel have just miss read the chaps request.
attention to detail and the hour a day man is as important as content for the guys who have done it all and need more.
There are so many really cool small things that could be added to draw more people into greater feats.
PS - liked the asteroid hanger idea.
It's a Dog eat Dog World out there and I'm wearing Milky Bone underwear

Its kinda funny seeing all the "you just want stuff for free" + "your to lazy to go and get your own stuff"
first of all i read the OPs post i wonder how many did? I never saw the word "Free" in his post so i guess some people need to STFU about people wanting stuff for free.
and people going on and on about making his own Corp and stuff, nobody is going to join a corp whos CEO is on 10 hours a week. and then there is the problem of getting the corp off the ground in the first place, I've joined plent of corps who had big goals at the start but just crumbled due to lack of players.
I don't know the stats on in but i think that a lot of EVEs population are people who only spend a few hours here and there playing it. I see lots of posts people asking/demanding rewards for the long term players and stuff like that well you get it almost every time something comes out. Titans, Motherships, Carriers and Dreadies are all for the long term players
I don't necessarily agree or disagree with the OP but i sure think it would be cool if i could build my own one man station with hanger, maybe have a repair bay, production bay. and i think it would be good to aim this kind of thing at the middle range characters. The ones that have been around for awhile but can't devote their entire lives to sitting at gates for hours defending their little slice of eve

games are like povlov's dog exercise, ring the bell and get a treat. in eve, ring the bell better and get a better treat. for newer players it is tough, if not impossible, to ring that bell better and hence no treat. at least not near what the high sp player has. i understand there is only so much room for sellers or producers in a market, most will just go out of business. but for eve that means if you are not a pve nor pvp game gets old fast ... no treats.
in my main's case, 3 months old, the current game gives me little choice. mining or missions for that treat. tried manufacture, small things like ammo require access to cheap mins to compete. don't have 100s of mil to buy mins and cheaper rates, so cannot compete with the established guys. even if i could get access to a lab to lower the me. i can buy ammo cheaper (with pe=5) than i can make if time to mine is included.
just completed research project mgmt for more research but ... that looks to be nerfed by devs soon and there is no way to compete with t2 bpo still on the market. invention as now does not work, really expensive as well. more wasted skill training time.
so really left with only mining, (boooring) or missions. missions get old and that treat starts tasting blah ... bean soup again! those are soon to be changed as well ... sometime ... to bring ... what. oh, that's right, less isk. where do i get my treat now?

Here's the thing:
For a new player, even the really old content is new and fresh.
For an older player, it's only the new stuff that they will really be interested in.
Hence new content is generally aimed at the veterans.

A bit off topic, but the best advice there is to try and find a relatively dead backwater region to sell in. Way back in the day when I was dabbling with manufacture, I bought an Incursus frigate BPO. Trying to sell in Oursulaert was impossible- all the established sellers simply had the price too low for me and my lack of industry skills to compete with. However, the moment I moved my operations out to the sticks, I began selling them at some 30% more expensive than they were going for in the hubs. True I had to wait a week or more for my orders to sell, but the patience was worth it.
Begin peddling your wares across a multitude of outer regions, and you're in business. Live the life of the travelling salesman --------

And its your own personal storage space, you can also invite other pilots to land, you can build basic functions, like automated repair bays and so. Costs maintenance of course, but hey, at least you have something which feels like its "yours" besides your ship, even if its a silly thing like an asteroid hangar (now, im talking about permenant asteroids, not the minable ones) :P And I think it could be a cool and cheap alternative to all those who dream of being a pirate scumbag, hiding of in some remote part of the solar system :P
I don't understand - it sounds like you just gave a line-for-line description of a POS.

I suggest the OP stop playing MMO's altogether. They require time, effort and dedication. If thats too much or doesn't fit into your schedule there are always less demanding games.

Nah, POS is too big and too limited. I too support the idea of a small 'home' you can build in space; and it has been suggested many times before as well.
POSes have to be at moons, even the smallest need lots of maintenance, are are just plain overkill for most people. --------------------

I want, I want, I want!
(as long as I don't have to put in any effort)
PS Factional Warfare is still on the drawing table to stop whining about it.
So in war, the way is to avoid what is strong and to strike at what is weak.

Secure containers at a safespot are a surprisingly useful home. Dirt cheap, can be set up by a Iteron, and need a lot of shooting to take down. Store spare ammo/rat loot in the can, and transport it to empire when it gets full for Profit(tm). You can also haul ore to the can as well, but you don't sound like a miner.
Also, doing L4 missions in groups is a very good idea. It's how my corp started.

Ok, I'm a pretty new player to Eve . . about two weeks in.
I don't understand all the people in this thread saying that they aren't able to get a Battleship. Something doesn't compute.
I am currently in a Destroyer. By Friday, I'll be in a Battlecruiser. I could then be in a basic Battleship by the next Friday. So, like, 21 days from start to Battleship? How is this a problem?
Now, could I afford one by then? Probably not, but I don't discount the possibility. I was concerned about my ability to afford a Battlecruiser until I learned Salvaging. Now, I *know* that I'll be able to afford the BC with no problem. It's entirely possible that cash flow will further increase when I start Salvaging L2 missions. I just don't know yet, but I'm not ready to say there is a problem without seeing it.
Am I missing something?

Oh my gosh yuk! I could not bear to play that game, it is a dead place IMO. No way, just exchanging convo here.
EVE is great, but when things are great you tend to look for even more because you expect it, because the CCP devs seem to be so able.
And yes they are doing a great job already, no matter what.
