Its almost two completely different worlds and mind sets, This was shown more over the 10k sp per day issue, reddit showed overwhelmhing support for it and even dissed the bitter vets, meanwhile all i see is anger and frustration towards the idea. Pretty crazy eh? |

The people who post about EVE on Reddit tend to be people who don't care for EVE's own personality and uniqueness, if they did they'd refused to post on Reddit about it and stick to the official forum, this one. It's therefore not surprising at all that those don't really see any problems when EVE turns more and more into a generic MMO (which weirdly no one plays much because they "suck", so why change this one too?).
The fact that CCP Devs seem to prefer posting on Reddit makes it all the more poignant, and telling. |

I'd strongly disagree with you on the fact that we dont care about the uniqueness of eve. Theres been a good few times ive seen people claim to be the majority ie against sp injectors and now sp dailies, Reddit supports it and the eve forums stands against it.
On a side note i would reckon ccp goes there, because there are more people on there actively engaging. |

Both places are ****, for different reasons. There are trolls in both places. And the overall number of posters / readers, for both places, is like 1% - 10% of the total EVE player base.
CCP has adapted and is pushing out the features that are received negatively, and then looking at usage statistics. And I'm pretty sure the usage statistics are going to go through the roof with this one. |

One thing you have to realize is that both the forums and reddit only represent a very small portion of the eve player base. A second thing you have to remember is people( with the exception of regulars) usually come to the forums to either A) complain or B) ask questions.
What you really have to look at is subs. Subs tell you what players really think about eve. For example eve has been steadily growing in subs since it started. We had a period of decline i believe it was either when sov changes went from POS based to to TCU/SBU or walking in stations or both. It was that period when people were quite unhappy in general with eve.
CCP admitted that was a huge mistake on their part ( because it cost them subs). They have recovered from it but it just goes to show you cannot escape the truth of " Money talks and BS walks" and its not the money that posts on these boards/reddit...soo that leaves the other one. |

Lets make a new plan: Everyone gets 30 mil SP extra and 10 fitted titans, for free
The people who don't really care for the game go "lol, yes please", this would be Reddit. The people who'd go "holy ****, this would be so bad for the game in so many ways. Don't do this", these would be the boring people, the few who post here that are care and understand the game, the ones who "haven't adapted to the new times".
Just because something gets upvoted or supported doesn't make it a good idea.

I don't think there is any evidence to support the view that regulars to r/eve like thse guys don't care for Eve's own personality.

Hawke Frost wrote:Just because there's a few exceptions doesn't mean that overall it isn't the case. Just because each of us have a totally untested and unvalidated opinions, doesn't make our views a reflection of reality.
So when you say that the people of r/eve tend to be the one's that don't care about Eve's personality, prove it. Counters, such as those listed above suggest a different possibility, so if they are the few exceptions, rather than guys who also see how r/eve is a reflection of the personality of Eve, then show the evidence that says they are just the few and exceptions.
Remove all the personal bias and put the objective evidence on the table if you are so sure that your view is the true view.
Additionally, let's not forget that the changes in the game are coming from CCP. They aren't being made by r/eve.
So if r/eve are supportive and r/eve reflect people who don't value Eve's personality, then you have to also be saying that CCP don't care for Eve's personality. Again, I don't really see the evidence that support that. Not objective evidence anyway.

I don't get why they didn't decide to put a limit back on the training queue? I mean wouldn't that once again cause people to log back into the game and thus solve the issue?
But instead they are giving out skill points like candy for a task that takes less than a minute daily. I mean it sounds nice but seriously if reverting a change solves the problem... |

The main difference between here and Reddit is that on Reddit I have made points and inquiries in threads the a dev would reply to within the day, either directly or in the reply chain, whereas here in the "official" forums we can have 50 pages of people begging for some clarity or any kind of answer on any kind of topic and get absolutely nothing (save for editing from an ISD because they won't kick out the trolls).

In theory, reddit is a good idea. In practice its signal to noise ratio is dreadful.
It's like a teenager's Facebook post collided with 9gag. There's only ever one opinion: that of the "cool clique" - any alternative views get suppressed even if well presented. Instead you get a hundred pages of upvoted 'lol's and memes. |

Reddit has no subscription limitation so many of the people posting there aren't even EVE players, or are bitter ex-EVE players. The fact that ii's basically unmoderated (beyond the downvote to oblivion thing) also attracts the players who can't form a sentence without lobbing in foul language and personal attacks.

Just existing doesn't make you special. While true, doing so also kills off diversity of opinion making the entire point of it's existence moot. If the only opinions being allowed to be voiced are ones that are in line with the core group, then that's the only opinion you'll ever get no matter it's validity.

I don't believe I claimed it changed it, just that the claim that people on r/eve tend to not care about the personality of Eve, because the community there agrees with the changes being made by CCP, isn't necessarily true.
None of which changes the fact that r/eve aren't changing the game. CCP are. So if there's going to be butthurt over changes, then surely the butthurt should be directed at CCP first.
However, I can totally understand Emporium members being upset at r/eve. You couldn't control the narrative, so it must be evil.
So whinge and ***** and moan all you like. That won't change it either.

I've been posting here for years, and I've only recently started visiting reddit. Tbh, reddit is just a better experience. There, the worst posters get a kind of social penalty for constantly posting bullshit, here the best you can do is use a very poor ignore function. And there is more freedom and less moderation.

So you admit that the majority has a habit of making dumb decisions, it's how we got Bieber, all the other ****** "musicians" and stupid people who got famous for uhm... yeah. The system is inherently flawed partly due to stupidity and trolling, but in case of EVE there's also the issue of how dumb game changes which hurt the game long term give short term benefits to the ones "voting".
Given all that, why should the "majority vote is cool yo" concept be a good thing and one of the main reasons why Reddit is better than this forum? |
