Edited by: T''Renn on 26/02/2007 08:31:30 If so then there's a few things you should know. If you should happen to decloak at a gate and happen to get warp scrambled by some enterprising individual or individuals, and they start shooting at your ship - a little advice:
Do not, under any circumstances, logoff!
See, since we're pros we know that popping your Obelisk or whatever isn't going to net us any loot. Furthermore, our e-peens don't get that much bigger just because we popped some freighter. I know the situation seems desperate and it seems that it's only a matter of time before your sizable investment ceases to exist in a beautiful display of pretty colors, but have hope! There is a way out of it!
Just wait for the convo invite.
That's right - you're going to get convoed. We want you to keep your ship more than you think. We would just like to collect a small toll for your safe passage... a value much less than that of the cargo you're hauling and the ship itself - heck maybe even a fraction of that value! We make no guarantees regarding any other group you may or may not encounter on your foolish, unescorted journey through lowsec, but had you not logged off we would have convo'd you and named our price. Heck - for a little extra we may have even been gracious enough to take time out of our busy schedule to escort you to the next gate in the system - as a sort of show of good will.
When you log off, however, you leave us no choice but to destroy your poor vessel.
I hope my writing this has been of service to you. Don't log off and everyone's happy and possibly you're going to live. If you log off, however, there is no negotiation that can be done to save you.
Renn
P.S. Don't assume that just because there's only a HAC and a BC attacking you that they can't tank sentries long enough to get through your enormous structure tank, because we did. Also, don't assume that your pod is going to be safe when your precious freighter pops because we have no way to scan it out. You have some mail from a certain gentleman named "Concord" waiting for you when you log back in that pretty much disproves that little theory. Thank you for your time

In regards to pilots logging, had the dumbest logger ever I think tonight.
Now keep in mind an Abaddon has 7 low slots, so therefore can require up to 8 points of warp scram to hold. Thats quite a bit for a small gate camp to come up with.
So anyways this small gate camp of ours is split two ways, 1-2 guys on both sides of a gate. We see an Abaddon on scan expecting him to A. Be nano out the rear with mwd (we had webs so this is ok) B. Warp stabbed all to hell and back again. (we had 4 warp scram points total in the whole gang, not so good for us) Damn bomber raven, see the thread "Trouble with my hauler alt, part II" for more on that....
Anyway we figure what the hell, target shows up at the gate, does not jump thru. A gangmate on that side proceeds to shoot it and putting a warp scram or 2 on it. while the rest of us wait on the other side waiting for the Abaddon to jump or fight back. Next thing we here is that the pilot logged out and the ship warped off.
Now a few minutes later after the ship, and later pod, is scanned out and destroyed we find not 1 not 2 but 7 stabs were fitted on this thing. It boggles the mind why this guy did not just warp away from the gate. Instead we get a bunch of nice faction loot YEA!
Anyways in regards to the OP, yea it's always depressing blowing up a ship that will net you nothing just because the guy logs. I mean heck a ship like that cost over 200 mil to insure, not including anything your hauling. Ctrl-Q is not your friend.

Edit: Forgot to tell I very much liked the post as valid information for rookie freighter pilots entering lowsec... even though the OP made it sound a bit like bragging

Edited by: Torhas on 26/02/2007 11:46:13 Nice one! Reminds me of the time we blew up a freighter in Huola who is now a corpmate of mine.
Or the time that me (in a Crow) and Evil Sulu (in a Thorax) found a freighter in Siseide at an offline POS. We blew up the freighter in about 15 minutes, then proceeded to blow up everything that was bolted down. Oh and this was on Christmas Eve and we left them a nice little anchored can wishing them a Merry Christmas.

I'm the newb who has only been popped twice in low sec in a Badger since early December.
And I fly through low sec every day.
You try to make it sound like low sec is the dangerous place in Eve. It most certainly is not.
Sure, I've been shot at almost every day in low sec, but not enough to even make it through my shields before I warp off.
Maybe if I was dumb enough to autopilot - but I don't.

Will you quit posting in this forum? Seriously every thread its Agent Li the garbage man talking about how he doesn't pay ransoms because all he has to lose is garbage. How lowsec is heaven because all he has to worry about is losing his garbage.
This is like listening to a garbage man brag about how detroit is a garbage mans paradise because no one robs garbage men.
or maybe this is some clever ruse to make every one think you carry crap so they'll just stop shooting at you by the time you have anything decent

Question about finding when logging off.........
what you are saying is that the pvp counter goes in effect even if the freighter did not and of course cannot aggro?
Does this happen in every system? I mean, I should have found many ships while scanning systems. Like to know how that works, please explain.
Thanks! |

Agreed. I can't to understand what these freighter pilots are thinking. I believe we've killed 6 or 7 in the last month or so in identical situations. We didn't even ask that much, 300mil to safely leave system. Even offered to escort to nearest hi-sec for 600mil (4 jumps). Personally I dont feel this is unreasonable. The latest was a freighter loaded to the brim with Khumak. Talk about a waste of investment. Even if all of your ISK is tied up in your cargo, borrow it from a corp-mate or something. It just doesn't seem worth losing nearly a Bil in ship and many times that in cargo because you're too proud to pay a ransom. And to all freighter pilots..... NEVER underestimate a group of bored, trigger happy pirates. We will wait you out if need be. Just ask the guy we had camped in our home system for 4 days and he still got popped.

a pvp timer is activated when you are engaged in pvp. doesn't matter if u fire back or aggro someone else. if u have been aggro'd or aggro'd someone else it activates for 15 mins after it stops. and yes that's in any system and always has been since it was brought in

That's because if you read between the lines, the context of this post is actually "LOL we popped ur freighter in amamake under sentries with a BC and a HAC."
If it sounds like I was bragging a little it's because I was. --

Kind of funny, cause CTRL-Q works more than you think. Not many camps have ships with Recon Probes with the skill to narrow down the logger in 2 minutes.
I think of this post as a nice attempt to trick people NOT to logoff since it is impacting your wallets.

firstly your ship does not stay in space for 2 minutes, i believe it's 30 seconds.
Also the point is he was already aggro'd when he logged so logging off after ur scrammed just proves that ur a nub who doesn't understand aggro mechanics.

Always CTRL-Q as soon as you see a ship or camp when you are cloaked at the gate.

PS, occasional freight service available, good rates, some lowsec considered.

Alternatively, since you can afford a freighter in the first place, have someone escort it. If you can't do that, just a noob in a velator scouting ahead 1 or 2 jumps is all you really need. If anyone named T'Renn or Tiller or GingerMagician is nearby........... :P

Great work. lets advise everyone how they can exploit game mechanics to survive by being lame. yes it works but only to protect ppl from ctd's. use it if u want no respect from ppl in eve. use it after ur aggro'd to get no respect from ppl in eve and ppl laughing at u.

I hear that every time you crtl-q, you lose a small piece of your soul.
Even if people say "godbless" it doesn't cram it back up into you, it's lost for ever.

Those who chose boring missions over attacking another human mind in a battle of wits and setups have no soul to lose. In fact every time they ctrl+q they get negative soul which in turn removes pieces of the souls of all whom they come in contact with

We lost a Navy Mega kill to this the other day. If you're in a freighter, just wait 15 seconds or so for gatelag to clear, then, if your connection just so happens to drop, you'll only stick in space for 30 seconds. If they can't pop you in that time, you disappear *poof*.
Of course, if you've been shot at/warp scrambled/whatever, you're screwed.
Mostly posting because it's a crap mechanic, tbh, and I'm hoping the magical Wand of Fixing is powered by forum whines.

The bottom line is if you encounter pirates at a gate in a freighter (especially us :) make sure to offer them money and they are likely to leave you alone or even help you. Pirates are not inherently bad people, we are just making a living like everyone else. (ok, it's more fun than carebearing but plz keep that on the dl)

If your stupit enough to pilot a freighter alone without a webber and without any scouts or firesupport you deserve to die..
Otherwise I often log off if im about to die.. its not an attempt to save my ship or to save my pod.. its for my weak heart...
Seeing my 250 million ship go poof is alot worse then logging in a pod :P
Ive never logged off cloaked though or something like that and will never do
