some stats that should add up yet do not.
core calc = [base + skill% + ship% + rig% + rig% + mod% + mod%(w/ -33%penalty)]
2.4(T2multi spec) + 20%(lv4) + 80%(lv4 recon) + 10%(T1 rig) + 10%(T1 rig) + 20%(sig dist amp) + 13%(sig dist amp + penalty)
^ should equate to 2.4 * 1.2 * 1.8 * 1.1 * 1.1 * 1.2 * 1.13 = 8.50569984 what does this equate to ingame you ask... 7.93717782987
so one may think... maybe theres a harsher stacking penalty on the low slot MODS(+20%) than the normal amount... okay so recalc with only one MOD
2.4 * 1.2 * 1.8 * 1.1 * 1.1 * 1.2 = should equate to 7.527168 what does this equate to ingame you ask... 7.14725979092??!!<--
what does this lead me to believe? ccp put a maximum ECM curve ingame so the higher you go the harder the penalty is even if there are no penalties being impossed upon by the players setup... OR... possibly the second rig is not having any effect, or has a stacking penalty not mentioned in the item details?
so lets calc it to see... 2.4(base) * 1.2(skill) * 1.8(ship) * 1.1(rig0) * 1.2(mod0) = 6.84288 assuming the second rig has no effect what does this equate to ingame you ask... 7.14725979092 so obviously the second rig is having an effect, the next question is, are penalties being applied to Mod0 and Mod1 due to rig0 and rig1?
shall we calc? I dare say yes. 2.4 * 1.2 * 1.8 * 1.1 * 1.1 * 1.13 * 0.7458 = should equate to 5.28629245056 which it doesnt ingame...
So there you have it, makes some sense, atleast they are within 3 decimal points in acuracy, but no cookie for being accurate.
You already nerfed ECM ccp, atleast give us what "your" game says we should have. If there are hidden penalties for no other reason than to nerf, bring them out of the closet so the EW players can deal with them and adjust our tactics.
Oh and btw.. atleast you got the rig penalties correct.. I did lose 10% shield cap per rig without recieving all of its bonuses... So happy I installed them...

I've got a mate like that, you just have to make sure you don't play too bad and they win it for you.

I dont suppose this is something a player can petition, my rigs being taken off? There are no stacking penalties mentioned on the rig details and if I had known a +10% rig would only add say 2% to my final total... and still lose 9% of my shields I would have never put them on.
And just for curiositys sake, could you list in what order and how much of a penalty is applied? does anything after rig0 get a penalty? is it after all ship modules are accounted for and then passed onto the rigs?
As it stands the stacking penalties made this rig space junk that takes away shield cap when you can use low slot sig dist amps instead... If you are an ECM pilot you will be running low slot amps...
What were the thoughts on adding a rig that would only have an overall negative effect?
I understand the community whines about ecm... But it feels like im playing in a space version of salem's lot. Stop the witch burning... its medival... and it was only funny in monty's holy grail, not eve.
In the mean time all I can do is spread the info that rigs do indeed have stacking penalties... Its funny they act like implants for ships... yet implants do not suffer from stacking penalties? crazy I know.

It does not matter where the effect comes from, they get ordered according their strength.
If you have a 20% module, a 15% rig and a 10% module the 20% module will get no stacking penality (1st effect), the 15% rig will get the stacking penality for the 2nd effect and the 10% module the stacking penality for the 3rd effect.
As general rule - outside skills/implants and shipboni - the source of a effect does not matter at all for stacking penalities. This isn't exactly a new mechanic, btw, it just wasn't wellknown before rigs because the only situation where it was visible were the resistance ganglinks. Resistance gets stacking penalities, so their effect with already tanked ships was (and still is) rather limited.

Thats a bit of a misunderstanding. They act as implants for ships because, like implants, they are one-use items. Once they are plugged in you can only destroy them. Since implants are part of you char their boni do not trigger stacking penalities, just like skills. However, since rigs are part of the ship they do, just like modules (and ganglinks).
