Hi
Lately as a little bit of a hobby I have been scanning random systems for uncollected/floating drones, in the last 2 days i have found 88 just doing it casually. I was wondering do uncollected/floating drones expire after a DT or 24 hrs or do they just stay in space for a longer period of time because 88 sounds like a large number of drones just floating around from one 24 hr period.
Any Comments?

Poor drones, they need a home for abandoned drones...
Out in the drone regions, so they learn bad habits and become hoodlums, runnin amok and getting revenge for being left behind... Perfect!
*should train sleep right about now*

Can you tell from the probe signature whether you're going to find T2 drones?

Edited by: Lethlia on 27/02/2007 08:43:27 Edited by: Lethlia on 27/02/2007 08:42:52 Actually no. Most often drones are left behind in belts, mission pockets, and gates. And in these situations drones don't have much longevity.
For the first occasion, as soon as somebody enters the belt with abandoned drones in it any rats present will attack and destroy the abandoned drones, unless the individual scoops the drones. Thus it's only a matter of time before the drones are either destroyed or scooped.
Mission pockets are different. Most likely the drones are abandoned because a person has to flee/leave the deadspace pocket. If they return, most likely their drones will be popped by the NPCs before they can be retrived. It's also possible that after fleeing/leaving the person will drop/finish the mission. Now in this case, if they didn't BM the mission site the drones will remain there until they are scanned and picked up (this may even be a significant portion of the 88 drones you found). Otherwise the person will have BM'd a can and will most likely retrieve the drones when they loot the area.
Now drones left at gates are usually there because a PVP battle had taken place and a drone carrier was defeated or had to flee with their drones still in space. In this case, their drones are probably dispatched or collected in short order by either the winning party, or passing newbies who tend to collect any piece of floating debris they can lay their hands on.
Thus, most drones are removed in fairly short order after their abandonment. The rest are just waiting for you to scan out and collect .

One of my corpies found 9 lost fighters yesterday. The lucky sod had to buy a hauler and make several return trips to get em all picked up. Why does that never happen to me?
