Ahh yes, that guy is in Jita all the time trying to sell caracals he names "Caldari Navy Caracal", among other witless scams. Why there should be a breathalyzer to login to Eve:

Yeah, could you please explain how this scam is supposed to work?
I'm constantly amazed at how people will approve contracts without reading the contents, but how would this private auction be a scam?

Basicly they say its due to 'tax' reasons.
setting a private auction to a specific corporation for 10.000 isk min bid and with buyout set to the price agreed upon. Now the scammer basicly says: Oh, its 2b, dont you want to private auction it to my corp with min bid 10k and buyout 3b so you dont lose 100m in taxes?
The sad truth is it dosent work that but people are greedy and then this happens: 1. The corp is a one man corp. 2. the scammer bids once, at 10.000 isk 3. Now wait 3 days for auction to close and watch seller moan and ehm, scream like a 7 year old kid whom lost his car for a half chewed gum(10k isk instead of 3b)
Very sad, but its greed that sets them up.

That's the stupidest thing ever.
Okay, not the stupidest. But what kind of douche says "Durrr. Okay. I'll set the minimum at 10k and assume you'll go to 2 billion because i'm a big douche"
If that's how it works... I hold to my original theory that everyone who gets scammed deserves it. It's morally wrong to let a sucker keep his money.

People don't understand that you cannot set a reserve on auction contracts, or cancel an auction once a bid is made.
They also don't understand that tax is based on the winning bid anyway, so there's no point.

I'd like to say I've been one of his targets before, but I think most everyone who went into the ships channel got hit by him at one point or another. We all kinda laugh about it, then some newb get hit and we all laugh at him cause he didn't see the warnings. It sucks, but his scams are real easy to avoid, but he's kinda like spam: easy for the average user to avoid, but the fact that it works out for him one time out of a billion (or just a 100?) makes up for all the time he spends trying.
Good for him. He has alot more money than me.

call me a n00b, whatever, but i've never heard of that kind of scam. I could see how somebody would fall for it, but i think on a trade like that i'd want it to be in person...

ARGHHHH. There is *******NO****** Tax.
Thats why this scam is so great. There is no tax, there is NO reason to set a private auction.
Its like ratting in 0.0 with t2 BPOs in cargo because some random stranger told you that this will increase the chance of officer spawns.
