Hi!
I'm relatively new to EVE. Just lost an Osprey to a gate camp. :(
The last good ship is a BR with a Covert Ops Cloaking Device II and a Warp Core Stabilizer II. But this is for transporting P2 stuff from 6 low sec planets to a very nearby high sec planet.
I'm also planning to buy and fit out a Tengu with a Covert Ops Cloaking Device II, an Interdinction Nullifier and 4 Warp Core Stabilizers II. What's your opinion? What else should be fitted to the Tengu, if the primary goal is to survive gate camps and running agent missions (R&D and security)?
Thanks in advance

Is this in low-sec or null-sec?
In low-sec... simply having the Covert-Ops cloak reduces risk by a VERY high margin. Provided you have had some practice and time the cloak to your warp drive correctly (hint: don't hit "cloak" until you hear the words/text "warp drive activated").
Warp Core Stabilizers are nice to have, but won't help you in certain situations in low-sec. Example: if warp disrupted by a Heavy Interdictor, you are screwed. Their "infini-point" effectively negates all Warp Core Stabs and shuts down any Mircrowarpdrive you have fitted.
In Null-sec... euhhhhhhhh... I can only give you the basics as I am not expert running through that area. So someone else may want to chip in here.
Warp Disrption Bubbles (either anchored or from Interdictors and Heavy Interdictors) don't care how many Warp Core Stabs you have fitted. If you are inside one, your only recourse is to either get outside of it and warp or burn back to the gate you came from. On the plus side, you can use your Microwarpdrive inside one.
Another thing to consider is that if your "align time" (the time between activation to warp from a "cold start" to actual warping) is less than 2 seconds then people will be unable to target lock you effectively (and thus apply warp disruption). This doesn't really help when dealing with warp disruption bubbles in null sec... but in low-sec this is key.
How did you Veterans start?

If you align in less then 2 secs, AND you are nullified (eg. in an interceptor) then you are effectively unlockable even with bubbles, apart from lag, falling asleep or massive clumsiness.
This fit will get you through gate camps, give you speed to zoom around making bookmarks (but don't use the MWD when hostiles are near because of sig radius bloom) and allow you to cloak up and take a break when you need.

[Mid] MWD

You can add other stuff to suit in the spare slots, as long as you don't gimp your agility.

The best way to get out of a gate camp is to never be in it in the first place. Having a scout alt is not always feasible for everyone and is not foolproof.
So we keep winding up with the best ship in Eve being friendship and avoiding gate camps is no exception to this. In null sec if you are part of a large Alliance or Coalition and have access to intel channels you can know about gate camps before you even head out to the system.
Of course cynoing or covert cynoing around all that stuff can help also.
TL;dr best ship for avoiding gate camps is friendship. |

The nullifer subsystem on strat cruisers will allow you to escape bubbles.
OP: When im running though hostile space and not being caught is a priority, i run a similar setup to what you described and have had great success with it. You are almost uncatchable, if you use it correctly and time everything correctly. You can still be caught by multi point on fast locking ships. Bubbles should not be an issue for you. A covert cloak will negate a lot of you risk by itself.
My only real suggestion is to carry a mobile depot with you ( or use a dock) so you can swap the stabs out for something useful when you get in the system you are pveing in. I use to run 3 stabs for doing sites in dangerous space and the lock time and distance was terrible even on cans. |

Do you know, I haven't seen a smartbombing battleship in ages? But yes, if they are fashionable in your area, this is a good fit to use.

Can you elaborate why? IMO this gets you killed most certainly, because covops ships have a very bad align time. You need to queue the warp command and cloak into maximum 2 server ticks.

Equip Warp core scrams, scout, pay attention to what gates you are jumping through because some are popular places to camp. Warp as fast as you can. the faster you can jump into warp they harder it will be to get a lock on you unless they are in a insta-lock tackle ship and your just going to get pointed to death. Sometimes you cant avoid it but you can increase your chances by doing these things. |

When you jump into a gate camp, keep calm, assess the situation, decide what's the best to do, you have 60s of gate cloak. One tactic which saved my a** more than once ... if your assessment shows only small chance of escape, wait .... until somebody else jumps through and decloaks before you, wait a second, then warp.

OP mentions intending to buy a Tengu. I'd suggest putting that off for a long while until you're more confident in dealing with situations like this. It's an expensive piece of gear, and although it's great, your needs are likely to be met with a cheaper ship. Remember that whatever you buy is going to get destroyed. You can count on that. |

Shah is probably trying to avoid getting the black box of fail. Because of lag, the cloak will often not queue and just fail with the warning box if it registers before the ship decloaks. Even if the buttons were hit in the correct sequence.
Only ways I know to get around this is either to pause a bit longer between pressing warp and cloak, or rehit cloak after getting the black box of fail.

I didn't even know that the commands could queue. I always get a failure if I try to activate a module before the "warp drive active" message appears.
The associated problem to watch out for is where you think the cloak has failed, but it hasn't, in which case you hit the control a 2nd time, so you cloak then decloak again. Usually fatal.
The trick with all of these techniques is go somewhere quiet and practise them over and over and over again until they become automatic.

It fails during the first tick, because the gate cloak exit is not recognized yet. But the warp drive active message comes only after you already aligned and at 75% speed, this could be several ticks after you hit warp ... when flying a bomber I just hit warp, wait ~0,5s and hit cloak. If I would wait out the 10s align time, I would be dead multiple times ...

How strange. I am not going to argue because I am sure you know what you see on your system. But what I see on mine is the "warp drive active" message appear within 1 second (one server tick) of issuing a command that breaks the gate cloak. So, if I select a gate, select jump, the "warp drive active" message appears in 0 to 1 second, then the ship starts to align and warp off.

It plays immediately, on the next tick, when you click warp, indicating one tick has passed and you should be able to cloak.
Try it in a slow battleship. It will play ages before you are actually aligned.

Ya, same for me. I click warp and I immediately get the audio response. I've never had a problem with the ship failing to warp, only problem is when the cloak fails to activate. So I try to watch for the box of fail, otherwise it is possible to think the cloak didn't activate and hit it again force decloaking myself.
Then I'm pretty much screwed unless the gate is clear. Luckily, no losses so far from that mistake.

If you check his killboard you will see he has killed hundreds of ships with fits that align in under 2 seconds. The corp I was in at the time would issue warnings when he was gate camping, as there wasn't a way to skip buy him without either 3+ stabs or something large enough to scare him away. |

No, it's not a myth, it's the game mechanics. Your ship does not become lockable until 2 server ticks have elapsed, so if you can enter warp in less than 2 seconds you can't be locked. I live in null, I travel through gate camps every day and I have never been locked in a travel fit inty.
However, you are right in a sense, because nothing in EVE is ever 100% foolproof. It's not just what you would refer to as the "lag" of a bad connection that sometimes gets you killed. The relative locations of your client PC and the other guys client PC with respect to the game servers in London can have an effect. If the difference introduced is greater than 1 second it can throw the system out by 1 server tick and make you lockable.
Perhaps I should say "If you align in less then 2 secs, AND you are nullified then ALL OTHER THINGS BEING EQUAL you cannot be locked."
