As it happens, I spent more time looting wrecks than actual combat itself. Most of the time spent on looting is flying all the way to the wreck.
Is there any drones capable of looting wreckages? If so, can anyone please tell me the name/ type of the drone?

Edited by: Nadraas on 28/02/2007 03:30:54 No, there is no drone to collect loot for you.
What you need is called a Small Tactor Beam, it has a 20km range and tractors wrecks at 1.5 km/s.
Almost forgot it requires Science lvl 4 to use.

What you really need is a medium/large tractor beam, but they aren't in the game and I haven't heard of any plans to implement them.

I was thinking about all teh different types of drones in teh game the other day. Pretty much got a freakin drone for everything....but wouldent it be cool to have tractor beam drones?
They gcould go out 45km grab a wreck or can and bring it back to you...that would be awesome.

I'll buy that for a dollar!

Micro Warp Drive ftw! Oh, and tractor beams too, if it's that much of an issue.

err you dont sound all that smart either: normally you BM a can in each pocket, go finish the mish and return to loot. in an area of space that -lo behold- no longer is DS.
anyhoo, to stay on topic... looting is boring and mindless clickwork.. there is NOTHING to it.
im begging for some improvement on it, like mad. and dont come to me with "use this" or "use that". in my prime time of looting i even used a megathron with a split salvager/tractor/mwd/nano/istab/expander fitout. over 1.5km3 cargo, turns on a dime and goes well over 1km/s. tractors can in like mad.
did it improve looting? of course not. looting stays the same mindnumbing dumb clickety task.
so either please give us: bigger tractor beams/looting drones/or the ability to use the salvager on NON EMPTY WRECKS.
Pretty ******* please with sugar on top

How about something like a dictor bubble, only you deply it, and it sucks all wrecks in whatever range to it at half tractor beam speed. If dropped in deadspace pocket, sucks all wrecks in that pocket. Fit the launcher on your mission ship, drop one in each pocket, bookmark it, then come back with 8x salvagers after completing. Very handy after fleet battles as well.
Guess one can always dream

Do you see anything about deadspace in there? Me either. =)

I agree, I'd gladly train for wreck-looting drones, that'd be sweet.
But for now, as for quickening the time spent looting and salvaging, I recommend keeping a Destroyer at the station where you do missions. I do level 3 missions, and I find it very handy to kill the npcs or whatever I have to do, then fly back to the station (even if it's a jump or two away) and pick up the Destroyer. It's cheap and fast.
I use a Coercer for its speed (i.e. low slots for nanos) and somewhat larger cap:
Hi's: 6x Salvagers, 2x Tractor Beams
Med's: 1x 10mn AB
Low's: 4x Nanofibers
It goes very fast from one wreck to another, looting, tractoring, and salvaging. The only caveat with the Coercer or any Destroyer is the smallish cargo hold, but I find that most missions don't drop enough loot or salvage for that to be a problem (can't say for level 4's, though).
And in missions where you have to go through a number of gates, the idea of making BMs and then looting/salvaging later is very smart.
My 2 ISK on this topic.

My alt curently uses a Cyclone... 8 highs... able to fit 6 salvager I and 2 tractor beams or w/e. A 100mn AB giving the ship's top speed close to 1km/s. (although it accelerates slowly). and a rack of nanos.
works wonders.
the destroyer works the same way, sept the battle cruiser has more cargo hold and more capacity. Destroyer will probably run out of cap... very very fast... (unless skills are good and you have cap rechargers on) ----------------------------------------------

wow sweet. i got a catalyst. 6 tractors. 2 salvagers. and of course 3 salvage tackles. its faster than i can click sometimes.
still: looting is a lot more boring and plain stupid clicking than even playing minesweeper/solitaire.

Yes, there are Cap issues - one of the reasons I got a Coercer, since its cap is higher. But I have good cap skills, so it works for me - just need to manage it well.
I agree, a well-fitted BC with lots of nanos and the larger cargo hold would probably work a bit better. I like the Destroyer because it's cheap.

I use an interdictor (Flycatcher) for that looting/salvaging purpose. I had set her speed to be under 500m/s (486 exactly) without the AB. Fitting is much like that on destroyers: salvager, tractor beam, 2x small cap battery II, 2x cap rechargers, cold-gas AB, expanded cargohold.
Pretty good looking ship, nice targeting range, never runs out of cap (even if all salvagers run 0-23), approaches distant wrecks/gates fast, decent cargo bay (528 with T1 expander). Much much better than a destroyer.

Packing a stabber with a 4 salvager an 2 tractor set up. 1 AB, an whatever else I feel in the mid's. With the nano's in the lows. I can run everything non-stop and idle bout 60% capacitor, an accelerate's an turns on a dime.

How about a drone that logs you in and plays the game for you, too? Seriously, loot the wrecks. Salvage the wrecks. CCP doesn't have to hand everything to you in the form of a drone.

There was an official story just before conquerable stations came in, where the hero had a salvage drone. Been a couple of years since the story though.
