The Blue print originals are Blue, so the copies should be red to show that they are a copy. This would make it easier on the guys who make copies for sale and for the people who buy them to know they are getting a copy and not an original.

Been discussed before. Not an option.
BPO's and BPC's are the same object but they only vary in the # of runs. Each time you check a BP to see how many runs it has it sends a request to the server. As it stands now it only does this when you check a print or you do research/manufacturing.
The proposed method would send a server request every time you opened a hanger with blueprints in it. With some hangers having 100+ prints it would create a huge amount of lag due to the number of server requests. The devs have said as the current method for handling blueprints this would not be possible.

the way it should happen is that when you open container X (ie a hanger) it gets all the items that belong to that container (item type/image/name) what they should do is add another coloum to demote bpc/bpo ------------------------------------- WTB: Corp

I've heard that before, and quoted it to people who were asking this very question on more than one occasion. But now I'm durious, because doesn' the Science & Industry tab have a "Copy? Yes/No" column in it? If so, it indicates that there's some manageable way to make this distinction.

I would agree that some distinction of what is a copy and what is an original is needed. My dream would be a counter on the blueprint icon, that shows how many runs are left.
Database wise, that shouldn't be any kind of issue, since it is just another column sent. And as said the Science & Industry button already knows this. ----- CCP: Please make ship loot to drop in a can next to the wrecks. |

Edited by: Hubbins on 02/03/2007 13:50:56 The problem with coloring the BP's is that when you look at them it would request the info from the server. Normally it only sends a request when you look at it or open the industry tab. So instead of being laggy a few times it would be laggy much more often.
How it should have been done is to make BPO's and BPC's two different database objects. Being different objects it could easily be made that all original objects are blue and all copy objects are red.
When the server would send a request and got the item type it would already know it is a copy but you still would have to request the number or runs.

Edited by: Random Caldari on 02/03/2007 16:45:15 Might be possible to "borrow" the stacked quantity number to return number of runs.
BPC's are all unique objects ( not repackaged ) and therefore are not stackable.
So with a modification to the server to send back the number of runs as the stacked quantity all that is left to do is for the client to interpret an object with a) a unique id and b ) a stack quantity as a BPC and colour it red
May need to alteration to the stacking / spliting code on the client.
But it is certainly doable.
Wont affect stacked BPO's as these should have no unique object id
Server can return 0 for stacking quantity on BPO's hence client colours them blue.
