Battlestar galactica is the best so far when it comes to space fights, it doesnt have alot of it but the spaceship shots and stuff is pretty cool :D.

Movies that have space battles that arent on that list so far:
Lost in Space (short but sweet battle)
Star Trek (First contact and Nemesis both have very sweet space battles, first contact the most though)
Wing Commander (very old fashioned space battles, but thats what makes them kind of interesting)
If I had an Alt I would probably post with it... |

Saying that, Farscape was the best...

As far as fleet battles, the Dominion War arc of Deep Space 9 (Star Trek) had some awesome battles, seasons 6 and 7. The movie battles were subpar, except of course Wrath of Khan, which is the prob the best 1 on 1 battle ever.

If you're into anime you have to check out Seikai no Senki (Banner of the Stars), especially part II of the series. Huge fleet battles, and you'll see exactly what blob warfare should be like :p

Robotech: The Macross Saga Martian Successor Nadesico (Anything with space battles involving a mecha piloted by a wannabe cook with an animT obsession, a love triangle that he openly wants out of and a few other issues, gets my vote!)

I'd rather be a jack of all trades than a master of one. |

If anime is ok there is a huge amount to choose from. Sci-fi is quite popular there. And no not every thing is mecha (not a single of the suggestions below have mechas).
Some good suggestions:
Crest of the Stars Legend of the Galactic Heroes Starship Operators Wings of Honneamise ---------------------------------------- A Guide to Scan Probing in Revelations |

Most underrated movie ever.
Fifth Element. No real space battles, but probably the best design work since Blade Runner.
(That's twice today I mentioned Blade Runner...hmm)
