What *can't* you do with tags? Tags are great! They'll mow your lawn, they taste good in soup, they'll guard your house against hordes of ninjas, you can even cure cancer with them.
Can't get enough of them tags.

each faction now has a cosmos agent somewhere in 0.5 system within the empire and pirate factions in 0.0 where u can drop off youre tags for a minimal ISK reward ( its not much) apparently u can raise youre factional standing by a reasonable amount by also giving them to these agents ( tho it isnt uber CCP has made reasonable balances on this one)

When i did missions for the blood raiders, i used to get tonnes of Navy and Concord tags, which i could then sell directly to the blood raiders through buy orders in their stations. I presume things in empire space work the same way, with buy orders for tags.

Depends what faction they come from.
If one of the four player factions then sell them to alternate faction's military corp. eg. Gallente Fed Navy will buy amarr and caldari tags.
If they are NPC tags eg. Serpentis then as mentioned they can be exchanged with certain cosmos agents for a little isk and some faction standing gain. However these agents can only be used once so you'd only be able to off load about 10 to 20 tags per agent. Any surplus you'd need to sell or reprocess.

A point to note, faction tags are classed as contraband in their own faction space and could cause you to lose a ship or worse if you get scanned by that factions customs or police force e.g. Amarr faction tags across Amarr faction space.

Edited by: Venkul Mul on 07/03/2007 11:55:07 I think our replyes are a bit confusing, so I think it is better elucidate. NB: I can speak only of the uses in empire territory, don't know what the pirate faction will give/ask.
The tags found in empire can be divided in 2 gruops: military dog tags (Republic Navy, Caldary navy, ecc.), and the pirate tags (Serpentis, Shansha, Angels, ecc.).
Currently the military dog tags can be sold for isk in the stations of the "enemyes" of that faction (so Amarr Navy dog tags can be sold in Republic Navy stations, ecc.). Not all the faction navy station will buy them, but usually there is at least one for region. Price can vary slighty from region to region.
Pirate faction tags: those are required to complete some 1 shot storyline missions (non repetable) given in the data centers near some navy school; data center locations to complete some COSMOS missions; to get some Faction Navy ship form COSMOS agents; to get some ship offer from your agents.
The tags required are from the pirate faction opposite to the Empire faction you are working for. For example for an Enyo (Gallente T2 frigate), Quafe (Gallente Corp) require, between the other items 20 copper Serpentis (Gallente pirate corp) tags [can be bronze tangs, but one of the low denomination].
The point I want to add it that the drop rate of the low denomination tags has been reduced in june, but the requests haven't been reduced, so the price for the tags is relatively high. The data center missions aren't worth doing (the reward is sone 10K of items for 1-2 mil of tags); for the ship offers the cost of the tags is about equivalent to the cost of the other materials needed (an incursus and multiple POS produced building materials), about 2 million in tags (if you search a little for half decent prices) and 3 millions in other building materials.
I recall to have sold some pirate tags to DED stations, but it was some time ago and I am not sure it is still valid.

Yes, they are classed as contraband, but no they won't get you shot or fined.
If you check the info on each tag, it lists the legality but no penalties. That means you can't sell them on the market in space where they're illegal, but you can transport them safely.
Compare that to something like Mindflood, which has information on which security space it's illegal from and the associated fines and faction loss.

You can make a battery if you stick two of them in a lemon! -
