Could someone direct me to the best possible sniperthron setup? Well with Tech II and Tech I guns respectively. the 425mm kind. My max range right now on my sentries is roughly 75km. And about 45km without drone control augmentors. Money isnt to much of a issue since its 90 days until i am in Tech II railguns,so i have time to buy stuff. Keep it under 1b for the Tech II's and under 500m for tech I's pls! THank you very much

What kind of sniping are you doing? You going to be a sniper for fleet ops, gate camps, low sec pirating, etc?
For fleet sniping you donÆt use sentry drones because most fleet snipers have a 190km-250km range and there is no way ôrealisticallyö that sentry drones can reach that distance. Even reaching 100+km ranges and having good damage over time is a stretch.
Mega fleet sniper
Hi: 7x 425mm II Rails Mid: 100MWD, 2 Sensor Booster IIs, Tracking Comp II Low: 3 Mag Field Stab IIs, 2-3 Tracking Enhancer IIs, 1-2 1600 Plates or DCU II or Armor Rep
Supplement best named modules where you canÆt fit T2. With T1 modules and average skills expect to be hitting around 140km-180km with Iron ammo. And donÆt expect to be doing much dmg if youÆre flying solo. T2 fitted Mega can reach 190+km depending on skills and mods. The dmg will be much better, but you still have limited firepower when flying solo.
If youÆre gate camping in 0.0 space and want to be a sniper, you could theoretically use sentry drones. Assuming you have gang support, this might be a good setup:
Hi: 7x 425mm II Rails, Cloak Mid: 100MWD, 1 Sensor Booster II, 2 Omnidirectional Tracking Link 1 Drones: 5 Bouncers
Sit about 40km-80km from gate (depending on ammo type and skills) and blast away.

Bad idea mate.
If you are sniping, 90% of the time you want to be moving so you can warp immediately when needed.
Also, to use the sentry drones to a decent range, you need several drone link augmentors. Those are basically a waste of slots on a megathron.

Use ECM and light drones while flying a sniper. Reason: you want to either kill stuff that tries to tackle you, or make it lose its lock. _______________________________________________

Well it's going to be for a 20man or so gang. Sometimes 10man going after similar size gangs. I want to use sentries for around 70km sniping. This isnt the heavy pirating areas, just smaller man gangs. So i figure with my spare slot on the mega i can fit a DCU which should put me around 70km. So i'll be using the sniping of a megathron with the sentries augmenting me. Slap on 1-2 omni's and its a nice little ghetto sniper i think. not to expensive either.

not bad idea though..
u have 8x 425mm rails t2, plus 4 sentries, that adds like dmg for 2-3 more guns..and u still have 25m3 for 5 small ecm drones to get rid of that inties that wanna harrass u:)

Edited by: Christopher Dalran on 07/03/2007 15:49:24 Tank the sents with a group, all you need is 1 cov ops to sneak up on you at the gate and warp in someone and your screwed. People hate snipers that pop smaller ships (thats realy all you can get sniping alone, small ships and the occasional hauler without the sense to setup to warp fast) so its not going to be long before someone sneak up on you in a cov ops. I;ve done it several times and they ALWAYSE drop good loot that sells for alot so your a desired target.

I dont go alone, this is for protecting our space with a sizable gang(20ish i guess is sizable :)) But ya i was thinking 4 sentries,2 Tech II meds and a light Tech II for protection. If its just a inty i wont worry about him for long ,other snipers can simply snipe him out,or if were in a large group of snipers we can use all our drones. But yes getting ganked while sniping is bad,but its bad pretty much no matter what you do.

Optimal range of 425mm II (with decent skills/fittings): 215km (and this leaves no slots free for drone tracking links).
Max drone control range on a mega without taking off a 425mm II to put on drone link: 60km.
Sentries + snipathron = not smart.
Youd be much better off to use the drone bay for T2 lights/mediums to drive away hostile interceptors that try to tackle you, or use shield/armor maintenance bots to minitank your wingman (if you operate in pairs).
