Hi everyone! First of all, I want to say that I appreciate the time and effort the veteran players ( and everyone else, of course) put into this forum by answering all those questions. I've been playing Eve for about two years now, well, on and off, and I visited this forum a lot. It was really helpfull. Still come to lurk sometimes :). Keep up the good work!
I just wanted to give my little warning to the new players. Whenever you buy something, always doublecheck your purchase, and after that, check again.
I bought a cute little Tristan frigate yesterday, nothing special. Just something that will explode somewhere in lowsec in the future. But today I discovered a significant dent in my "wallet for impulsive shopping". A 500 million dent. That frigat was expensive.
So now I have a 500 million Tristan in my hangar....it sure doesn't look like 500 mil. But..I'm not mad...but rather, I feel ashamed. I wasn't paying attention, perhaps a bit sleepy and some alcohol...I might as well fit it with deadspace and faction modules and go roaming in Tama, as some form of therapy or repentance, you know,,fight pain with pain. I could have bought a thousand ( overpriced) Tristans for that money and supply Karmafleet for...a day, maybe ? Not that I would do something that reprehensible.
Anyway, I had to get this off my chest. So all you new players, beware! I never thought I would do such a stupid thing, but..I did. And if you spot a Tristan named "the 500 million sucker" in lowsec, that will be me. You can try and blow me up, and if you do..well..you will know you blew up a far more expensive ship than the kill mail will tell you.
Fly ( relatively) safe everyone o7!

This is why I keep the majority of my money with a "shopping/hauling character" on the same account.
Yes... it adds a bit of tedium... but it prevents drunken impulse purchases like this.

I have a Naga that was overpriced from playing the firesale games a little to much. Haha,
Blinged fitted that ***** right up, might as well make it worth the price tag I originally bought it for.

I was in a hurry once and wasnt paying attention and accidently bought an iteron V for 200 mil instead of 2 mil. Ever since i am much more careful about checking prices and i keep most of my isk on a bank alt to prevent accidental shopping.

If you find yourself doing this, there are some workarounds. If you're not using all three of your chracter slots you can make a character that is your "bank." Keep 100 mil or so on your main and transfer anything you make over that to your bank character. This is a bit cumbersome if you need to transfer money back but if you are mistake prone, it is a viable option. Additionally if you're not in a corp you can always form one so you can utilize the corp wallet as your safety net. The obvious downside here (for most people anyway) is you are no longer immune to wardecs.
Unfortunately this wouldn't have helped for buys but for sells another Pro Tip: always hit tab after you enter the number, this will add the commas making it easier to catch mistakes.

Sure... you do not have to drink. But it makes the experience and people less enjoyable.

Never fell for that up to now. But I have a long tradition of accidentally buying stuff in lowsec. Always fun getting it from there into hs. Only a dozen 1600mm steel plates are still sitting somewhere deep in Khanid lowsec .

I think this advice applies to anything. Contracts, Market... kill rights and Jump clone services.
The last one is fun. I've noticed a lot of people don't set a limit so you can jump for free. Found one the other days that was set to 8 billion isk to jump... had to count the zeros..
Also saw someone with a 10 billion kill right on them.. so always check that amount... |

My first taste of people hunting was exactly this, I accidentally bought a talos deep in lowsec years ago when i was still a carebear , the guy that sold it to me (and something like 8 of his mates) then hunted back to highsec, my heart was thumping the whole time, i had no guns, a 100mn afterburner and a load of nanos as that was all i could buy in the station, they caught me twice but i just about managed to get away by bulldozing my way back to gate as they were all in small **** and this was back when everything warped at 3au/s so my fat arse was moving nearly the same pace as them i may have cracked my mouse from clutching it so damn hard.

I just want to put out there that not every misprice is a scam. I've been half asleep and entered one too many--or one too few--zeroes on more than one occasion. Actually, entered a couple extra zeros on at least one occasion because I'm used to software adding a decimal

It's not quite all doom and gloom, there is one safeguard for market orders at least, although not perfect. If you do enter the wrong or unnatural number of digits on a market order, the game will warn you that you are over or under the average price by greater than 100%. If you ever see that message pop up, STOP! Review what you done, if you are not familiar with that product, look at the market history, check average prices with Eve-Central.
To those people talking about blinging up an over priced purchase. It is gone dude, put it out of your mind and move on. Putting faction sh*t on it isn't going to justify your mistake, only make things worse when you lose another fortune to the first gate camp you jump into. |

much easier to look at the % variation from region mean. if it is less than 10%, it is all good. if it is more than that, count your zeroes. |
