Went to salvage a Dread Guristas battleship wreck the other day, and got the message "You do not have the ability to salvage this wreck" or something to that effect.
OK, I only have Salvage 2, but I though training the Salvage skill up only sped up the salvaging process.
What skils do I need to be able to salvage these big wrecks?

Yeah you need it at level 3 to salvage tech 2 wrecks.
Diablo 2 is five years old, and apparently that makes it more mature than the people who play it. |

OK, cool. Would have been nice if they'd put that nugget of info in the Salvaging skill description. :) Cheers all.

Dread Guristas is tech 1, not 2. Named/racial/factional/whatever but still T1.

I have also seen this one or similar - it said my ship did not having enough cargo room to salvage the current wreck. Apparently, it was going to give me something large and I did not have enough room for it.

Salvaging a ship can generate metal scraps in addition to wrecks mods which, if there are many to be had, will overflow your cargo.

I had the no room message, made room and got....wait for it.....NOTHING AT ALL. You get that message if you do not have room for what is POSSIBLE to get, not for what you WILL get.
On a side note, Carriers don't give much salvage. Good loot tho. Heh heh.

I got the "not enough cargo room" message and that was the end of it, the wreck was gone, no second chance after message, jetting cargo was not an option.

Isn't the whole idea of dread guristas/dark blood/true sansha etc. that they fly 'elite' ships, i.e. T2? I'm pretty sure that they all have "T2 resistances". Sure, there are no T2 battleships for us players yet, that doesn't make it impossible that elite NPCs are seen as flying T2 ships.

Look at npc.elfarto.com
A 1.55M guristas conquistador has 77, 67, 47, 57 resist while a 10,5M dread guristas colonel has 76, 66, 46, 56 resist - actually 1 percentage point less.
Thus you cannot say that the dread, dark, whatever faction ships are T2. Officers also fly T1 in that respect.

I think I could salvage a faction cruiser with salvage 3, but I could not salvage a faction BS (NPC), which leads me to believe you need 4 to "salvage everything"

Maybe so but EVE still counts them as Tech II wrecks. Generally it is a good idea to have Salvaging at level 4, should be able to salvage any wreck with that, and doesn't take that long to train I don't think.

Length of time to train depends entirely on someones mindset. heh, I trained salvage to level two the other day, and the 2 hours it took grated on my while I could have been training frigate level 4. ^_^
However I think I shall be training salvage to four now, thanks alot everyone. Space is vast, dark, and cold. Yet here we are filling in the empty space with life and action. |
