Disclaimer :: The bugs reported in this posting can be EXPLOITED however since no specific system names or locales are mentioned... yada, yada, yada... hey CCP just fix the game, huh ?!? - lol
Yup, Castor has bugs and some of them are JIP bugs... Get this :
1). Not all JIPs are at gates ! Some JIPs are far away from gates as before Castor.
2). Whenever a ship hits a JIP that is not at or near a gate there is NO 60 secs of cloaking - I have not verified the lack of cloaking from other players viewpoints but there is no obvious environmental sounds nor the ghosted ship appearance to suggest there is cloaking.
What does all this mean ? Well me thinks CCP hastily coded this JIP cloaking stuff and didn't really test it all that well (huh ? ) so there are still opportunities for evil-hearted pirates to take advantage of these game bugs and EXPLOIT as before !
Just imagine the surprised look on some noobs face when YOU (Mr Pirate) blow that poor sap away meanwhile the poor noob though his/her ship was cloaked for 60 secs when it wasn't - hehe.

I traveled down and back in "fix" 28 + 28 jumps yesterday, and all the way back to gehi the jip was not the opposite gate in the system, it was the gate I jumped in to on the way down and I was uncloaked. Ya it was fast travel to not need to warp in to the gate. If pirate camping a gate I hade been dead. And all jips was not at a gate, 3-4 was not.

Something like this is far to intermittent to be considered a real exploit.
I think I'd just rather watch paint dry.

Edited by: Ardanwen on 20/12/2003 10:33:19 Looks like its an old issue that just wans't removed in castor.
If you enter a system the location where you enter is somehow stored in a cache i think. If you enter the system again without restarting the client you will end up in the place where you first entered the system.
eg: You log in midspace, leave system and come back. You will end up in the place where you logged in.
You log in, undock, leave system and come back and you will appear at the station.
You move along a path and end up at the normal gates, you go back and you end up at the gates that were used on the way back (note that you won't have to warp since you are already on the correct gate to go back :) )
I haven't played castor yet (holiday without a game pc) so I don't know what affect it has but your description seems the same as what i describe so i guess its still like that.
A simple workaround is to reload the client before you start on your way back.
PS: since the 'bug' is completely dependent on the person travelling and not on the pirates or gatecampers i wouldn't use it to accuse someone of exploiting.

What Ardanwen said.
It's been around since beta. People have been using it to pre set their jump in point into a given system. Hopefully it will be fixed soon.

Yup I really hate this bug, would have gotten that rat 50 seconds ago, but of course he appeared at a station and instadocked instead. Grr.

I like this "bug"...
When I do missions, I pop right back at the station. If I'm frequenting several stations during a day of doing missions, it makes the missions go faster.
for PvP, it isn't a big deal, since I do that in <0.2, and there aren't that many stations... usually just get people "passing by".

i suspect (knowing kurenin) 2 words are missing here, one being ".....yourself". for once reluctantly im minded to agree with him
JIPs The old system in my (humble) opinion was fine, there was not a fixed jip system but possibility of ending up in a choice of 3 or so places. The problem was that these were camped by pirates who waitied for people coming through. Often ships would be lageed coming through and find themselves scrambled before they could move. The problem here wasnt the spawn locations but the fact that you could be seen before you spawned. Anyway due to constant complaints this was changed to new system.
However in my view the new system seems (though i need to check more) to make it easier to jip camp. this is for 2 reasons.. 1. you know where people are going to spawn. 2. you can, in the right ship, lock and scramble people easier than before. The bigger the ship the more vulnerable.
Sometimes it may be better to stick with the devil you know than the one you dont. I suspect there will be many more complaints about this in the future. But remember- the people who complained about it originally are responsible for how it is now SO DONT BLAME CCP.

Exactly! That's what happened to me last night. I was destroyed before my screen finished loading to see a pod instead of my ship when I came through. The person laughed about it. I think that is a definate exploit of a bug, and should be treated as such.

In the old system there was 1 place where people would spawn too. Once you had a bookmark you could keep it and start camping it just like you can camp a gate right now.
And as stated above, this is a bug that is completely dependent on the player who travels. The player who camps the gate has no way to see if the player becomes uncloaked because he moves or he appears there because of the bug. Because of that you cannot claim that the player is exploiting a bug. (he does get an advantage but there is nothing he can do about it, it is not a matter of him creating lag or anything, the fact whether or not you get the bug is entirely dependent on you.) If you want to play it safe then reload the client before you start your way back if you want to play it safe.

Edited by: Khar'du on 22/12/2003 11:31:55 Making use of the 'old' JIP bug to camp out the bugged systems' JIP's is a bannable offense according to the GM's.
It is indeed exploiting a know system bug and goes against the spirit of the castor changes. And because the cloaking does not work when this bug is involved.
That's what i hear at least.
