I've been thinking about the old eve and I admit I rather miss some aspects of the old UI (I preferred the rectangular HP bars and lock effect present in older expansions. Would it be possible for this to be brought back as an option for players? It could attract old vets to the game if only for the nostalgia feeling.
I don't necessarily mean the whole UI, but just the locking mechanics would be fantastic. |

And I must admit i HATE the delayed damage visible on locked target on HUD... ... but that's unrelated. :P
That ringing in your ears you're experiencing right now is the last gasping breathe of a dying inner ear as it got thoroughly PULVERISED by the point roaring over your head at supersonic speeds. - Tippia

Not much they can do about delayed damage without seriously speeding everything up, but it is admittedly annoying. |

I think there needs to be a change with what targeting looks like.
Firstly, proper square colour coded health bars seem a fair addition. Having them all the same colour is ok from a design perspective but it makes more sense if they were a tone of Blue for shield, yellow for armour and red for hull. It would also be interesting to see the health bars animated differently, with the damage depleted fading to a darker tone, before winding down after a short delay, like with health bars in street fighter and the like. For your own ship their should be some representation of how much your repair modules will repair in the next cycle as well.
I'd also like to see the selected target window that sits on top of the overview expanded. A small but adjustable window, similar to the ship preview window, could show the selected object and allow you to move the camera to look at it at different zooms and angles. PVE suffers a bit from a lack of feedback, and seeing your shots land, and the ship you're attacking succumb to the sexy damage effects, would really improve that. This option could be optional, so people who want the more compact and minimal window that we currently have are happy. |

Red for structure wouldn't work. Red is already used to signify damage. Maybe keep structure white like it is. Shield and armor getting blue and yellow receptively sounds like a good move.
Secondly, an "object camera" window sounds very smexy and interesting, if perhaps unnecessary. I have to ask, aside from merely looking good, like you said, what good would that do?
Although, to be honest I'd actually prefer a proper tacking cam over the world's best rear-view mirror, come to think of it. Maybe this would be good compensation for the lack of said tracking cam since the one we have now is sadly garbage.
"Tomahawks?"
"----in' A, right?"
"Trouble is, those things cost like a million and a half each."
"----, you pay me half that and I'll hump in some c4 and blow the ---- out of it my own damn self."

apologies for my late reply.
Aye on the colours - I chose red because then it's all the prime colours. red for damage makes sense.
The object camera is so you can look at what your shooting or targeting, without the need to fiddle with camera controls.
A lot of defensive modules have clear graphical indicators (IE the new warfare link auras), but often your too zoomed out to be able to see this without spending precious fiddling with the UI, time you need to maintain your transversal, activate mods, broadcast etc. This Gets around that, giving you the information without the compromise. As you said, it also would look great, which is important. |
