Hi guys and gals,
I spend a lot of time on road trips and I'm not able to use both EvE and TS3 on my laptop due to the lag. At present, there is no way to indicate my status to other Corp members whilst in game and sometimes, it is handy to let others know my availability (bar typing 'AFK' in channel, but not seen by new members coming into channel after been typed - which isn't helpful if you are currently the only member in channel)
In the Corp chat window, what about a facility where members can right click on their character and set their status, such as AFK or online, etc? This can then be indicated by a coloured marker next to their name, same way pilots are currently indicated in contacts list. This would give a quick visual reference to other Corp members in channel as to a members status and availability. It is something that may also be of use in Alliance channel too?
Just a thought......... |

Seems like a decent option, if people actually used it.
CCP should add more NPC 0.0 space to open it up and liven things up: the Stepping Stones project.

It isn't the fact that it is hard to do what you said. A client wide status would be nice. Especially for chat channels. I wanna say many other MMO/Online games already support this feature for their chat windows.
EVE is in many ways behind the times on a lot of social/community features that other online game developers have implemented. Back-ground game updater - only like 2-4 years behind other major MMOs. Two-Factor Auth - again 2-4 years behind the other guys.
And it isn't because their development team is any smaller. If numbers I have read are right, CCP has near the same number of developers as Blizzard's WoW team. Some of those developers even work on the other Blizzard games

It's not about of it would be nice or not it's would it be worth the time money and manpower to implement when those resources could be spent on other things

Other things like half of a mining barge update that is still going to be a problem for the next X years because the core bad game design is still there?
As long as it was able to toggled on/off in the channel settings windows.
Don't really need to be able to jump into someone's public channel and see right away if half the peeps in there are AFK or not for free intel reasons

And that is why I only suggested Corp chat channel and maybe Alliance chat channels.......... |

A fair comment - but the scripting to do this already exists in EvE in various forms and just needs a snippet from here and a snippet from there, mixed with a seriously small amount of CCP magic by 1 person - this does not need hordes of manpower, time or money to implement.
There already exists a right-click menu on your character in Corp Chat channel that would just need an additional drop-down menu item - say 'Status' - with 2 selectors: 'AFK' and 'online'. Through a really small piece of scripting (a simple if/else script with resulting action) the selector output indicates a status with a marker - the script for which already exists in the contacts page scripting! Just needs a slight modification to watch for the 'Status' if/else input rather than the 'Online' status input. Seriously - this is scripting 101 and with the skills set of the CCP peeps, probably a 15 minute job by 1 person to implement.
As Amarisen mentioned in their post above, most MMO/online games have this basic player status feature built in. It is simple, but a handy visual to have IMO. |

lets ignore that something that may seem that simple to implement often times is not. (particularly in large projects with many people working on the same thing)
just adding this small thing adds an extra step to the QA every time they roll something out its the same reason ccp doesn't like to give us options like using the old camera/ui/tactical overlay/ect. things that were actually more work to take out than leave in but save countless hours in the long run

they are also not the ones who can judge if something is worth adding to the game Yes, d'uh, very smart.
But they can still bring in ideas. What does that change about it not being your, or any player's, call? Nothing! Exactly! Glad you understand that now and stop pretending you can judge.
Also... lol ... i'll rewritw the top paragraph for you, who might not be so smart after all.
I asked HIM ... what his point is letting other people know he is afk ... ... when he isn't available anyway.
lol oh my, i can already predict your response.

There is an issue with that idea and that is that there is probably an error in the code....
and most likely they wouldn't be able to localize it to corp chat only.... but would affect vider eve
(this would be actualy a good solution for AFK cloaky.... if he does soemthing client side his AFK satatus gets removed) |

The server / client already tracks chat windows so keeping these new flags isolated to the corp chat only should not be a problem. The majority of what is needed to make this work already exists in the game, you know those nifty little color coded thingies that show up in the chat window when you set standing towards a player or corp.

Lol that would literally do nothing for afree cloaking
Either I sit there and do nothing but watch my screen until I get the icon and see you guys warp to a site or I prop my mouse so it keeps turning the screen and I don't get the icon.
