So while I'm planning ahead, what exactly are the differences bewteen the Rokh and the Raven? Which one would be better for ratting and pvping, and which one would be better for running missions? Thanks ahead ;)

Rokh uses turrets, raven used missiles
Not sure which one can fit the better tank, but they both actively shieldtank.
Rokh is more a PvP boat than a Raven. It can be fitted with blasters for small gang PvP and it is the only sniping BS that has the range to hang with T2 sniper fleets.
Raven is much better at missions because its DPS isn't decreased with range and it doesn't have to deal with tracking problems.

Edited by: Arcalane Celso on 16/03/2007 22:40:02 Raven seems the way to go for ratting, mostly because with torps/cruises/missiles you needn't worry about tracking (just the speed of targets), as has been said, and aren't limited to pure kin/therm damage like railguns or blasters.
That said, I've toyed with fully T2-fit Blaste-Rokhs (as concepts, mind, not field-tested these plans yet, I'm nowhere near skilled enough for Tech 2 Heavy Blasters!), and they are disturbingly deadly looking, as the blasters get the full range benefit, effectively allowing them to spit the high-damage ammo at around 15-20km optimal, if not further.
Other than that, Rokhs are heavy-duty sniperboats, as far as I see it. A sturdy shieldtank if you want to DPS, or armourtank if you want to fit tackling/electronic warfare gear so you can force your enemies to play on your terms (although you shouldn't be in range to use that kind of stuff on them, because then they'll be able to use it on you, and that's bad). There's talk of these things being able to lock and fire at 150+km, which I don't doubt at all.
Given the passive constant bonuses to shield resistances from Caldari BS levels, a shieldtank becomes easier to handle. ~~ I'm in ur belts minin' ur roids. |

I heard someone somewhere say that a Rokh with Caldari BS V and good general gunnery skills can throw Null L out to insane distances, e.g: optimal + falloff = 40km. Would decimate a tackled target. ---

I'd say that's incorrect. It's much harder to active shield tank a Rokh due to the fact that rails eat cap like no-ones business. Remember, missiles don't need cap.

Ah, but you also get resistance bonuses from battleships skill on a Rokh.
Personally, for a first battleship, I'd recommend the Raven every time. It's much friendlier on lower skillpoints, and is the undisputed king of PvE. Rokhs are nice ships, but harder to use effectively.

As a raven-user that's training gunner skills, I can say that the tank on a rokh with max shield/cap skills(bar controlled bursts 5, is only 4 atm) with 2 pdus and 3x CCCI rigs...eww
You can boost quite a while as long as you don't use antimatter, but if you aren't using antimatter, the range bonus is kind of a waste. ------------------------------- The opinions reflected in this post DO reflect the opinions of my corp...of one guy and a bunch of alts. |

What? Oh noes! So my sniper set up is a waste? That is the intended role, after all. Don't get my sarcasm wrong, I also fly a blaster set up too, but the Rokh excels at sniping, which is where the range bonus comes in handy.

In comparison to looks, I'd much rather have the Rokh. However, it seems that Ravens would be of more use in the PvE side of things if your low on SP..I still haven't really decided which I should set my goal to. =/
