how would a refinery ship work out? set up like a hulk where the high slots could be for refinery's to allow a team of miners to refine in the belt. I.E. using miners to feed a refinery ship that can then drop the minerals so that a cargo ship can then haul it. would add a new skill set to run it

A refining ship might be a good idea.
The ship would need of course modules for refining, probably a hefty storeage area too.
Perhaps the ORE capital ship will refine....
Anyway would be nice to see a refining ship, of more use in 0.0 than in empire, but would certainly be nice to see.

Yeah, refinery and mobile factory ships would be awesome.

Should be cap with limited refining and production capabilities. I'm guessing a 35% base refine and up to cruiser production. Perhaps even BC with high skills or some other drawback.

Actually from what I have heard is that this was the original intent of a mining capital ship. Which is actually a misname. I believe what CCP had actually in mind was a capital industrial ship not a capital miner but somehow it got renamed on the boards.
Speculation was for a mobile refiner and it can't mine just refine.
I agree something like this would be great. Especially if it had a reasonable refining rate. Setting up a POS to mine a system is a waste and it takes a ton of time.
Now a mobile refiner could jump in and refine for an op and then leave when you are done. It would spread people about and make it interesting tactically speaking.
Let it hold minerals only and a hopper for ore that is not as big so you are forced to refine right there and not use it as a hauler of other goods.
A modified carrier specifically set up to use a refining module and bays to support it would be great. I say carrier cause considering every barge and hauler out there is very limited defense I say give them a little loving.
Now I believe titan can create a cyno to allow other ships through. Now if you could do the same with the industrials you could have the haulers and barges and defense go through with it. Problem is then you would see and industrial being used in an attack fleet and that is a catch.
How do you make a Industrial Capital mobile enough to be of use and at the same time not turn it into something alliances use on the front lines.
At any rate We can only dream

There is a big thread in the stations section of the forum discussing the ore capital ship.
As for the jump portal idea, you could introduce a new type of portal that needs a special module with massive fitting requirements and give haulers and mining ships a bonus to reduce it to a very small amount. Combat ships could use it but would have to waste a significant amount of time refitting/onlining there other mods to meet the fitting requrements.
Or another way it could be done is a slower jump process (to give the enermy time to destory the field generator). can only jump ships that are close to it, ganged with the capital pilot and possible a recharge time so you can only make a very limited number of jumps per hour so it good for very small fleet deployments in a short range but very little use for tatical warfare.

Once long ago industrial ships were more than just haulers, and could equip mobile refining modules. There's even a skill for it. SOme older players have it trained, and they aren't getting any performance out of those SP.

I like this plan. As for keeping it from being a weapon, LET IT. But make it so that if there's an instance where it's destroyed when the jumpbridge is open it acts like mini-doomsday device on both ends of the jump bridge, and kills any ships that are in transit through the portal.
Seriously, the mobile refineries would be sweet.
