You should put a special pop up channel for NPC events like the coronation. The channel would be locked so only the NPCs would be writing to it. The channel could be based off the incursion pop up window.
Trying to read what the Empress said while the channel was being spammed was hard, and sometimes her statements left the scroll back capability of local chat in less than a second or two.
Another suggestion is the ability to only see relevant NPC ships / structures during the event, an option to blot out all player run ships and player made / deployed structures.
Yawn,-á I'm right as usual. The predictability kinda gets boring really.

+1 for this.
+1000 for regular expression (or a regexp "lite" analog) chat filters that squelch matching lines, as a more robust alternative.

It already exists actually but doesn't get used for events anymore. There are a few channels related to live events from a few years ago. |

They should have just put the local in moderated mode. The Empress was talking, not some insignificant wimp. Capsuleers have to shut their hole when she gives an address to the people and not flood the coms with crap. She has all the rights and authority to block every other communication than her own in her own home system on her coronation day.
On the other hand, as annoying as it was, blocking the channel would have meant we could not have murdered Lysus for showing his true color and allegiance.
They should have just put the channel on moderated mode when she wants to give another part of her speak, leave it for a couple of moments so that people can read it without having to copy-paste the text, and then put it back on open, so that people can react. Using events channels won't really work, I am afraid, because not nearly as many people would join it as you have in the local chat. I was in a player-made event channel and it never went beyond 90 people, even when there were 2,000 in system.

i think possibly you misunderstood, the channel would be for NPC chat only, no real person would be in it at all.
People could still spam the bejesus out of local if they wanted and anyone else interested in reading recruitment or sales spam could, while others only really interested in what the NPCs were saying could just WATCH but not post to the npc only channel.

But then you have to flip between two channels, and so does CCP to read player responses. And it's a lot harder to keep in order what people are replying to. Remember CCP was in the same local as we were and had no issue spotting people like Lysus posting. Just blow the chat window up big for a start and it doesn't scroll that fast.
A 5 second moderation after an Event Actor/Dev post would provide all that really needed doing as it gives people a few seconds of non scrolling time without utterly stopping the channel or splitting things. |

I understood you perfectly fine, and as said, next to no one would be in that channel. Judging by the below, an extra channel is probably the only solution for now, but it would also significantly limit how many people are at all aware of what is going on. The rest goes as Nevyn said.
Sadly, however, CCP apparently cannot set Local to moderated without changing the code. I asked that to CCP after yesterday's Sisi masstest:
Quote:n++[ 2016.09.29 17:54:42 ] Rivr Luzade > can you set local to moderated? n++[ 2016.09.29 17:55:04 ] CCP Habakuk > Rivr Luzade : not without changing code n++[ 2016.09.29 17:55:34 ] CCP Habakuk > And yes, I thought about it while we were in Amarr :) Even though it is not possible, it seems at least that CCP is aware of the problem and can maybe do something about it in the future when they replace the old code bit by bit with more modern code.
