Might as well just start them at the 5 million and limit any training to omegas. It will eventually be changed to that by CCP in their increasing desperation anyway, so might as well do it now out of the gate and not fritter away all those who sign up from the media stories. |

1. I think Plex price go down drastically, because 1. offgridboost beeing removed, so most of these alts will be unsubbed and its skills sold, also there are some production alts that also work when on alpha, so no need to sub them anymore. Also the industrial arrays will make more alliances invest and thus buy plex from ccp and sell them ingame. I also suspect that CCP makes a plex sale on christmas that again causes the price to drop
2. More gankers with alpha alts and so more banned accounts since it is against the tos to make alts to avoid consequences on your main, fair pvp(no links anymore, so goodbye cloacky tengu next to citadel)
i'm REALY miss the old stuff.-á

It does not matter if player count goes to 50k anf majority og them are alts of existing players. Of course, it won't be ideal, but it will still be better for the game to have more players logged in than not, be it alts or whatever.
PLEX price though I agree it will be tricky to judge. Christmas is cominh, and even without that, somee time after Alpha toons are introduced CCP will surely fo a timely discount on PLEX to encourage those Alphas to spend RL $$$ for PLEX.

you cannot run an alpha with an Omega or an alpha with an alpha
Toobo wrote:/Vortexo nice catch heh ;)
Skill training speed could be an issue I agree. But at the same time allowing faster reach to extraction ready point will have heavy effect on SP farms and injector market probably.
One way could be that it takes same X number of days to reach the SP cap, but speed up the first week and slow down the last week or something so that Alpha toons can get core skills faster but it will not lead to them reaching the SP limit sooner. So diminishinh SP gain speed over time could be one option. This could also possibly motivate alpha toons to go omega as they feel their SP gain is really slowing down. Training speed nerf at the start of their eve experience could feel meh, but if they are already some time into the game and SP gain speed really start to be painful they may say fock it let me just spend one PLEX to reach that skill... then they get hooked heh.
Kinda like gambling addiction. Early lucky wins and promotion ISK make people more likely to put in real ISK later on. ;) you haven't been paying attention to the news you cannot extract skill points from alpha skills butt non Alpha skills yes as an alpha

I have already read and been always aware of the info you linked. My point was that alpha/omega alt/main etc none of that will matter superficially. If it can increase player count that could be beneficial in itself.
And for skill extraction, this is how SP farm works
1. Skill train or inject a few toon to 5m SP (I think it was 5m)
2. Once the SP requirement for extraction is reached, you continue to train & extact
The problem is that people can reach that 5m SP 'for free' now, so no investment is needed at this phase. People only need to PLEX for Omega and start extracting once the SP toon is ready.
This means everyone and their dog can enter SP farm business without the initial investment. Of course, people who built massive SP farms from the start have deeper pockets than most and the sheer scale of operation will help them through, but entry barrier for SP farms will become a lot easier than what it is now.

Many old chars will be activeted as alphas to extract skills. So price for skill extractors will go up, PLEX as meaning to get own extractors will also go up, skill injectors prices will go down.
For a very short time amount of chars, active in game will go up. After skills farms will be drained it will go down, cause mining alts will be unsubscribed due to mining links changes.

1. It will go up drastically, already I'm seeing huge procurer fleets in hi ice belts where people are readying their old alt accounts for the f2p, it may kill the ore/ice markets but not before all the plex are bought. Within the year it will be 2 bil isk minimum.
2. The game will be the same as all other f2p mmo games, a train wreck. Remember this is not a p2p game with a f2p option, this is a f2p game with a sub option. Therefore more DDO/LOTRO/SWTOR/STO not WOW which is the only other mmo most people seem to of played.
Downside:
Every system with a station will have 20-30 goldspammers. The sheer amount of chat abuse will become insane. People who actively buy plex for cash and subs will disappear after 12 months as the game is 'no longer theirs.' It will come out on console even though non pc using console players wont understand it so it will be dumbed down to the point of pac man. You will be able to buy pets that follow your spaceship around. Every single thing you now take for granted will be paid for in au outside of your subscription, inventory slots will be limited to 100 items in stacks of 100, you have to buy everything else. Non subs won't be allowed in non sub corps or null. Forum trolls who don't play the game will decide what happens in the game. (oops, we already have that!) New content/ships/gear will be aimed at the wallet not game play. Aurum packs for sale on every screen with a button flashing permanently to remind you. The game will have sp for sale for aurum, not just the sp injectors on the market. (CCP have obviously been planning this for a looong time.)
Upside:
Whoever owns CCP will make a lot of easy cash as soon as the New Eden store is at its full f2p potential (e.g. afro hair for only $199.99, Titan toon with fitted ship in whatever null system you want $5000) people will always pay, it really is insane.
Up and Down
CCP will be bought out by a movie company who will make 3 amazing films before scrapping the entire game.
I really really hope to be proved wrong but I have seen so many games change beyond belief after going f2p, they make more money and some even have a higher population (although transient) but the game that was just vanished or was shut down..
If it is the only way EVE will survive then fine it needs to be done and good luck to it just hold on for the bumpy ride.
I added more here but it is s new topic in itself so I'm making a new topic. |

I think the price of PLEX will continue on its current trend. If you look at the pool of skills an alpha has access to, making that sort of isk takes longer than month, bar some exploration activities that would be extremely dangerous without use of a covops cloak.
Depending on the amount of active alphas, demand for meta 4 modules will lilely go up as they will become best in slot modules for whatever total % of the player base alphas are.
I'm curious as to what will happen to the price of a Gnosis.

I think CCP has vastly overestimated the draw of free-to-play, and the expected resulting subscriptions.
New players are quickly going to get bored because of not grasping the concept of player generated content, or frustrated with the complexity, or infuriated with loss and "griefing". CCP shouldn't have made a move to free-to-play before the NPE was improved.
PLEX may be affected in the short-term, mostly by veteran speculation. |

Generally to the favor of those of us who only buy PLEX when we need an infusion of cash. Since the cash price of PLEX is fixed, the increase in price in game actually improves our buying power in the short term.

We're not going to have 2 million people logged in at once, but I'd be surprised if by February we didn't have ~100k online at any given time.

Oh it will surely spell the end of Eve! In fact, please give me all your stuff so I can put it in my hangar and stare at it while I spin my ship with all the stuff I already have!!
Actually, I'm not sure what will happen. I agree there are going to very few belts with anything in them in the easier high sec areas. It could also create a new class of player that starts out not worried about PvP at all because they "have nothing to lose".
I can be sure of a couple of things. There will be griping here!! These will include:
1. Prices are terrible because they are too high/low/the same!! 2. These noobs are ruining mining/missions/pvp/trading/scamming/griefing/ship spinning.......... 3. They just don't know the territory!! don't know the territory! 4. CCP is ruining Eve with all these alpha clone guys! 5. CCP has saved Eve with all these alpha clone guys! 6. Eve is dieing! 7. And from the new alphas "Why doesn't this game let us walk in stations? Land on planets? Have space monsters? Why can't I have a pet? Why can't I see myself in a pod when I fly? Why can't I have a hat/beard/some other random character attribute like in WoW or other games. Why can't I be an alien?
Basically change. And change I believe is good!

A large change like this needs to be coupled with a vigorous marketing campaign.
If history serves, we can count on CCP dropping the ball on that aspect again.

ya know you're not wrong at all.
i've yet to see a single advert and with no market push how will anyone know about EVE ftp ?
oh yea,, word of mouth, so is it more about attracting vets back than new players, because i just can't see a huge rush to play EVE when there is so many games out there that's already ftp and market themselves pretty well.
such a short time to alpha launch and little to no marketing of the product.
or can you count reddit as marketing of some type. |
