I need some suggestions for a ship. I'm primarily a mission runner but I also enjoy ratting in low sec as often as I can. I'm willing to train just about anything (sitting at 4.8m SP or so now) but am Amarr and more heavily invested in armor tanking and gunnery than shield tanking and missles. Ideally I'd like a ship that is capable of level 3's without trouble and maybe some level 4's as I improve my skills. This ship must also be able to hold it's own in pvp, and give me a decent chance of surviving a pirate jumping in on me while belt ratting (or be able to escape notice and get out of dodge).
I had a thought to train up my Gallente skills and have access to the Ishkur, Myrm, Dom, etc. as it seems like the combination of strong guns and drones works very well for both pvp and pve but I'd really like to specialize and get one ship (or ship class) as good as I can get it. So should I spend some time on Gallente (or another race) ships or is there an Amarr ship that can do what I want it to do?
What are your some of your favorite ships for the mission running/ low sec ratting/ occassional pvp encounters and why?

Thanks for the reply but it occurs to me that Battleships would be somewhat overkill for low sec belt ratting. I dont have 0.0 access so I'm not likely to need a BS for the rats I will encounter. Yes, BS's are the best for level 4 missions but they are also the most expensive to fit, fly and loose. I dont know if I trust myself taking one into low sec just yet... I currently have a 'Geddon but its strictly a mission runner. And like most Amarr ships it isnt even a particularly good mission runner. Hence the reason I was exploring other options.

actually all tier 2 BC can do the L3 so can most AF any BS should be able to even with cheap T1 fittings, those i haven't tried, but ofcourse haven't got any idea after mission overhaul =) just choose any amarr BS to be yopur target and trais the skills needed for it to work if it ain't as easy as the caldari have it, why should it. be proud of the amarr you are, just remember some L3 and many L4 are a pain with drones, ie whole room aggro, and with new mission npc:S coming in waves, drones really aren't the thing for missions
atleast amarr don't use ammo, wich is always good for missions, not being able to wary damage type is sad though, in the end just pick a ship you like and stick with it - especially if the amarr are getting some boost sometime soon
------- Well atleast you don't have to type that name for invites or coms..... My buddies loved me in EQ2 i can tell you... |

You could do worse than check out the Harbinger - it won't run level 4 missions, but has no problem with level 3s. It should make a decent ratter, and it's one of the few Amarr ships with enough midslots to hold its own in solo pvp.
Cross-training for Gallente at some point isn't a bad idea at all though. Most of the skills you should already have (armour tanking, gunnery etc), and getting drone skills to a decent level doesn't really take that long. It's something you'll probably want to do anyway as an Amarr pilot to access the Arbitrator line of ships, which are some of the best in their class.

Aye yes. I forgot to mention I have been working on drones lately. I have Drones V, Scout Drones V and Drone Interfacing IV. Thanks for the replies though.

unless you have the skills to make a more simple solution work, i would recommend you simply use a battleship. my main is amarr and i can tell you now, you will need a large amount of skill points to use a ship(amarr) like you described that is smaller than a bs. The harbinger is nice and i sorta agree with the poster suggesting it. I hate to say it, but you would prolly be better off just getting a prophecy or harbinger and slowly sludging your way through missions or an apoc if you have the cash. amarr is not designed for just "jumpin' in a ship and pwning". 30+ mil in sp's and i am just now getting to where alot of caldari are at 1/5th of that

BCs and AFs are the best ptions for what you want to do (lvl3s). Low sed ratting doesnt pay well and is generally not worth it but if you must use a maller with frig guns (beams not pulses).
Arguably my opinions represent to an extent the opinions of my alliance and in particular circumstances give rise to a valid "casus belli" claim. |

So even though I'm Amarr and enjoy the look and feel of the ships it really sounds like some cross training would be a wise SP investment. As I said before and has been suggested, Gallente ships would use some of the skills I have already invested in (armor tank, gunnery, drones) and seem like fun and effective ships.
And I'm starting to realize the best mission ships are not necessarily the best for belt ratting. So it might be best to continue to put points into BS class ships for missions and Assault Frigs or BC's for belt ratting. Diversification is a good thing, right?
