Then don't do it.
Just because mining is not for you think of where the game would be without it. Personally I find it handy. I do the maximum amount of R&D and it's much more convenient to mine some veldspar, refine it and pre-position the Tritanium at my R&D agents stations.
It's a dirty job but someone has to do it. |

Mistakes arent made that were made initially and the scaling of skilling, isk, etc are much more efficient as one goes on. But.... What if we, as humans in the real world, could reenter the matrix of the Eve world anew each time? What if we could, after character creation and placement with all the starting skills, wipe our minds but only of Eve? This would mean you could place yourself into the best or worst positions in Eve again and again but with the added twist that it WOULD be completely new for you. What paths would you take if you could do this? Would you do the same path and truly min/max it and then afterwards tabulate the variances? Would you try different things? Would you purposefully make yourself the worst off you could to give yourself a challenge (this would have worked much better with the old attributes from bloodlines)? Would you simply play "god" and make yourself uber leet in every facet? Would you supply yourself with personal "cheats" so that you could benefit? Or even personal failsafes? Heh enjoy the thought idea of my day in relation to this lovely game.
I love the psychology question. If you could wipe all my experience as Lulu Lunette and have me start over on a totally brand new toon, would I be .. the same? I consider Lulu Lunette to be the mask I wear in the game and I mostly play as 'myself' like what I would do in her situation. So yes, I think if I had my memory wiped I would end up down a similar road to what made Lulu what she is today.
Having said that, if I started Eve Online today, I would be a whole brand new person with much less time on their hands and I think I would be a high risk for that new player retention statistic. (my original trial was this) I think it's a very smart move on CCP to go to a F2P model because I was very reluctant myself to pay after my second trial (Lulu) . There was some very critical moments I like to blame for my still being here in those first few weeks And not only have I discovered Eve Online but I'm ridiculously hooked to Twitter more than I ever used to be, because it's so much more fun behind an alias.
I don't know how much of a noob I'd want to be again. Just look at my early PI setups for example. wtf was I doing?
I kind of wonder if maybe you feel trapped in your main? Lots of people seem to want to escape not only their RL but also their ingame responsibilities. Do you wish you were someone else?

Well people can have fun in this game. Mining to me is so damn boring and doesn't even require two brain cells to do.
Now I do like the miner ganking though, that is some fun right there but CCP continues to nerfbat it with Thor's Hammer on a continual basis just because miners are lazy and want their hand held instead of actually paying attention to what is going on around them.
All they have to do is follow a few simple rules and they won't get ganked again. Rules are hard though!

Starting to sound that you've transferred your hate of mining to the miners themselves...
If you're gonna shoot an oh-so-innocent miner, at least do so with a smile, and not with anger in your heart. Though, cold-hearted ISK reasons work just as well...

Admittedly in lo-sec and I should have warped farther away than I did, but no complaints. And I nearly won and gave my opponent a run for his money with only 5 Hornet 2s and my trusty Procurer.
YMMV of course but you can get a bit of excitement, as I did, if you are lucky. |

The people who have been screaming for ganking nerfs have been the miners, and the nerfs have gotten out of hand. The next logical choice is just to make mining ships invulnerable in their eyes.
Hence, the invulnerability field from Rorqs.
Come on, CCP...throw us people who want to create content a bone or something...it has gotten to the point of being just plain stupid.

Lots of people seem to want to escape not only their RL but also their ingame responsibilities. Do you wish you were someone else? Well it would be starting over with the one cavet being that you can add in knowledge, think reincarnation with or without knowledge of your past life, failsafes etc. But thank you for answering this so I shall answer you.
No I dont feel trapped in my main. Years ago in the early days of Eve I was faced with a decision that most of my corpmates and friends were making. Their mains were becoming known and the idea of training an alt, even on the same account, to be able to do things with was there to "hide" in a fashion. It has since become standard to use alts to rehunt the same prey until they realize it is still you or you have to move hunting grounds which is also why you see people corp hopping a lot looking for gud fights and such entertainment. It was the same with the T2 BPO stuff. Choices you make in game determine a lot of things. Playing for fun rather than isk piles was my choice there.
So I didnt hide and choose to readily make it easy to find me in game. ET is just my forum/talker and though he is my SP main is just another character to me. My RL is rather boring actually but I dont escape into Eve because of it. I have a life I dont need a vacation from in that sense. I play games. I have since I was young all manner of sports and now I play Eve and rather enjoy it until I will find something else to do that drives me and I go yeaaaah too. In that regard Eve was quite the sleeper game. I initially left years ago thinking Id never return and gave my character away to a friend and then came back and have been back ever since.
Okay now that personal drivel is out of the way... I talk to much...
These questions are more because of a psych background as well as a religious tone to it. The idea of immortality is something inherent in the gaming world. The idea of hitting the reset button or like in Eve we die but we dont actually die. In real life death is an important psychological motivator for actions. Being freed from that ideology in game means we take risks and do things we wouldnt do in RL and this makes me ponder and think along these lines and ends up in questions such as this one.
This one is about reincarnation with or without knowledge. Would you want to know? What would you want to know? And of course why would you want to know that specifically all tucked into an Eve platform because here we CAN do this and can ponder it better as we understand alts better than we understand esoteric and ambiguous ideas like the hereafter. Ends up easier to answer in some form.
Have you heard anything I've said?
You said it's all circling the drain, the whole universe. Right?
That's right.
Had to end sometime.
