The above post is innacurate and untrue. The Thorax does more dps than most other t1 cruisers in the game, with the one exception of the vexor. The vexor however does not have as good a number of high and low slots to allow for a relatively sustainable tank. Its worth giving up the medium hybrid bonus on the rax for the sake of fitting light blasters, which leaves enough powergrid to fit a 800mm tank and 2 med nos. So long as you have decent skills your drones will do enough damage to compensate for the small guns. if you dont have decent skills its your fault, not that of the ship.

A well set up (no im not telling you how) plate vexor will absolutely crush an 800mm plate rax, or even a 1600 plate rax.
Because I said so...

Im in pvp since my first days, means soon to be 1.5 month.
Right from start I went gallente ships, right now I fly thorax with Ion named blasters and combo of damage/light tank setup. Not great for holding any kind of above average damage, but sure does great damage itself for even my low-skills. So far, the best idea is to make sure you manage also your warpin point onto target, like if your hunting npc hunter, you should warp to his belt right from previous belt he was in, most of them rarely leave more then 10km from warpin point, unless they collect loot. Once you do it, you can land 5km within him, quickly lock, scrambler and hit your guns. Make sure you dont keep mwd running all the time or you can run out of cap.
As the bottom line, I like the blasters even more then rails, range is pain sometimes especially in PvE, in PvP you can lvie with that with various tricks like landing on top of your enemy or by just taking advantage of slower ships and catching up with them.
My current long-term aim would be Megat and Deimos more then even Ishtar and high-end fitted Domi. ---

keep the secrets of your wtfpwn vexor- if you ask me a rax that can take down bs's and bc's even at the same time- must be doing something right.
Besides, 9/10 cruiser pilots are noobs. fact. this is because theyre the first effective ships you can fly with a low number of skill points. as soon as people have more sp's more often than not they go into t2 ships of some sort or if theyre really cool they use a nyx in 0.4. i think youd probably lose that secretly fitted vexor of yours if you came up against a real cruiser pilot.

Valerydarcy is right, a well setup T2 fit gankrax will pwn any cruiser no problemo way before it runs into cap problems. Costs alot though.
And about a blaster battleship not being able to break a well setup maelstrom/raven's tank, rubbish. Just requires high skills.

LOL. Your statement just shows how ignorant you really are. I fly a max skilled Hype/Blasterthron and I can't get through a Maelstrom tank or a Raven tank with a full gank setup, much less something with less punch. Heck, I'll bet a Maelstrom could even tank 2x gank Hypes at once 100%.
T2 gank raxes used to be fairly good, but that was before Kali, before the ammo nerf, before the HP buff. Come on the test server, I'll show you what happens.

Nos > tank.
Even tho everyone says its bad, its only thing that can get rid of those 'the tankage of tankages'. ---

Yes, but nos wouldn't be the best if a Hype could actually break a Maelstrom's tank. Right now shooting a Mael w/ a full gank Hype is like throwing a glass of water on a forest fire.
