Well I only used mine for missions so far, but a Sleipnir with a Pithum A-Type Medium Shield Booster is damn sweet.
I am in the same boat as you, having Amarr and Minmatar both skilled up for command ships, and I didn't even once think about using the Absolution instead.
I might get a Damnation someday for PvP though, seeing how cheap they are... --------- There is no 'n' in turret There is no 'r' in faction There is no 'a' in Kestrel There is no 'e' in Caldari

Thats an insult to ill small girls everywhere.
Anyway, to the original post.
Both the Absolution and the Sliepnir provide pretty much the same role in gangs, they do good amounts of DPS and fit strong tanks.
Sliepnirs when fitting for full damage will fit a better tank[as well as having more DPS, and being faster and more agile] and the absolution will [ironically] be a bit more versitile in its fittings. While you can armor tank a sliepnir it will not be nearly as strong as a similar absolution armor tank and will have to heavily sacrifice damage in order to make use of those extra mids. Though it can make this choice while an absolution cannot shield tank.
They are both beasts, and both heavy duty gang ships. I think that the absolution is going to be a bit more reliable and the Sliepnir is going to be a bit stronger once it can bring its guns to bear.
optimal builds[imho] are going to look something like this, plus or minus some fitting issues that I am too lazy to look up.
Absolution
6 x Heavy Pulse/[gang mod?] AB[or MWD]/web/injector MAR/MAR/EANM/EANM/THERMAL hard/HSII/HSII
+2 rigs
Sliepnir
7x 425 or 220 AC[gang mod?] MWD/INJ/SBII[of some size]/SBAII/INV[or kin hard] DCII/GyroII/GyroII/GyroII/propulsion mod[likly nanofiber] +2 rigs ---------------------------------------- Thou Shalt "Pew Pew" |

Sleipnir's have a better tank than an absol, but it doesn't last as long.
With an XL Booster and a decent SBA you can boost about 1200+ shield per cycle, with 77% resistance minimum (with t2 invul and 2x t1 hardener rigs). With a pimped booster and boost amp that'll be even more.
Absol has a longer lasting tank, but sleipnir cant be beat for pure short term tankage (i tanked my corpmates nuetron gank mega!!)

Both are awesome, but Absolution has serious problems against nosferatus and since most everyone fits nos the Sleipnir would serve you better.

I fly both, and really love them. Abs, is actually one the only amarr ships that really works as intended.
Though sleipnir can theoretically fit an insane tank, in reality you end up with a weaker tank, because fitting a tackle and a speed mod + an injector, leaves you with only 2 slots for actual tank.
But the weaker tank, is compensated for, by a broader field of appliance.
Its one of those ships that is almost impossible to tackle. Its got room and power for a nos. Its faster than heavy tacklers, its got a dronebay that allows for a variety of small combat and ew drones, and with barrage and its fallout bonus, its hits out close to 30km (where tracking is very good).
Absolution would do more damage (but worse dmg types) and it generally tanks harder. But it has a harder time getting out of dodge (imho mwd is a must). Drone bsy is smaller. Dont count on getting something in the last high slot, and feat nos.
I pick sleip for fast roaming, or soloing. I pick absolution for staying power.

Abso is better in large gangs (pulses lazors with scorch) while Sleip is better for smaller ones (speed).

Vagabonds in big laggy fights do die quite easily. And big laggy fights happen quite often in 0.0. While the Sleip isn't bad in those situations, it's not its nanoness that saves it in this case, but its nice tank.

100 + vs 100 + ARE part of 0.0 PvP, which he did speak of.
Like I said, the Sleip is a good ship even in big fights, but it's not being nanoed in those cases that will save it, it's the tank.

i've been in 0.0 combat where it's been 15 vs 15.. 5 vs 5.. 30 vs 50.. 100 vs 100.
they arn't all 100 vs 100 even if you say they are.
point is alround the sleip gives more options than the abso.

No need to resort to being abusive, mate. I never said that it's only 100 vs 100, but those fights DO happen, and they happen more and more these days.
I concur that the Sleip gives more options than the Abso, but the Abso is still, imo, a better large gang ship, not in of itself, but because of Scorch-lensed pulse lasers that are fitted to it.
So the question is: do you usually fly in large gangs or small gangs?

Edited by: Xequecal on 04/07/2007 05:10:17 Absolution does more DPS and tanks better. I dunno how you guys are getting the Sleipnir out-DPSing an Absolution. Not only do autocannons do less base DPS than pulses to begin with, but good luck getting maximum on-paper DPS out of them. You'll always either be WAY into your falloff or using lower damage ammo with ACs. Hail M gives an optimal of 1500m and falloff of 7500m on 425mm autos. Heavy Pulse II with Conflagration M has a 7500m optimal and 5000m falloff.
Main advantages to Sleipnir are that it is faster and has more flexibility in its midslots. Absolution is pretty much railroaded into fitting MWD/Booster/scram in its 3 mids. Sleipnir can sacrifice tank to fit in more ewar if it so chooses. It can also fit web if it wants, a significant advantage. I don't see how the Sleipnir will ever outdamage an Absolution though, even with the extra turret. Sleipnir has effectively three slots to tank with, abso has four. MWD/Booster/Scram are absolutely required. Abso will generally have a better tank.
Abso got a huge boost from Rev II. This fit is now possible, it wasn't before:
6 Heavy Pulse II Gang Mod
MWD II Med Electrochem Capacitor Booster Disruptor II
3x Heat Sink II Thermic Hardener II True Sansha Adaptive Nano Plating Best MAR possible* Internal Force Field Array
Whatever rigs you want
*If you have AWU IV, you can only fit an accom or a faction MAR. With AWU V, you can fit an MAR II.
Lowest resist is Kinetic at 75.05%. You can fit in a kinetic rig if you want, I'm not sure what the best rigs would be.

the abso has huge dps on paper and without going against base resists of other ships.
sheild tankers focus on em resist so that buggers it armour tankers usualy omni tank so that buggers it too. and minmatar t2 is just love for anti amarr.
they have few choices in battle and that's why i don't particularly agree with the abso.
