****This is a discussion thread so feel free to make comments about what others are saying this isn't just here to post suggestions*******
Now that we have a new tutorial time for a new thread about it.
Lets set some ground rules
- This is a topic to post here about your feedback about the new tutorial system.
- Keep the discussions civil and not blown out of proportion.
- This is NOT a place to bash New rookies or any players who have questions or suggestions about how to improve the tutorials.
- Remember negative feedback is good but make sure it's constructive otherwise it's counterproductive to just say "They suck" need to give more then that.
If you have questions feel free to post them here or mail them to me if (or another ISD) if you would like.
Discussion Questions: What do you think about the new tutorials? What is confusing about them? What could use improvement? What are the strengths? Weaknesses?
Please don't go making other threads about the tutorials and how they can be improved as that is also counterproductive. Those will be locked and directed to this thread.

The new "New Player Experience" tutorial is a huge improvement from the old one. I really enjoyed it. A couple of suggestions and these might be spoilers so if you haven't experienced the new NPE don't read any further.
First, when you acquire the faction frigate (Rifter in my case as Minmatar) I would have a brief part of the tutorial have the pilot insure it.
Second, after the end of the tutorial it's a bit harsh to receive just a BPC of said ship to replace what you've lost. Now the new pilot is faced with either mining the minerals to make a new one out of the BPC or buying a new one off of the market. Because I didn't insure my ship I received the default insurance amount which was not enough to replace even the hull.
Other than those two nitpicks it was an awesome experience and my hats off to the devs and everyone involved in the remake.

Please make Aura's lines with more space between what she says.
At the moment it sounds like:
"Dockingpermissionrequesteddockingpermissiongranted"
"Autopilotengagedwarpdriveactive."
"Warpingtostargatewarpdriveactive."
There needs to be some gap between requests, and responses etc....
Thanks. :) |

I used to play a few years ago, only briefly- I was busy with IRL stuff to really commit.
Now that I've gotten back, I've played for the last week and the decision to ditch the old Aura for a flat-toned, quickly pronouncing alternative is complete rubbish. Even worse is that in a game with as much utility as literally exporting market data into excel and customizing so many facets of a ship that simply swapping .mp3 files as per the users preference is too much?
I can't stand the new voice and it's annoying as hell. When mentioning it in the Rookie Help for solutions to replace the old sounds, I was told my ISD Gwedif to post here, I don't see any instructions whatsoever for Aura VO feedback in this channel, but once I mentioned that in Rookie help I was "warned"
Exhilarating. |

Please read my post for why I posted here, I was redirected here by ISD, if there is another thread to voice concerns then that would be fine. But the new player experience includes Aura, and as such is still relevant to this thread. |

That's fine, but it does not mean we cannot suggest improvements to the new Aura. They already changed "docking permission excepted" to "accepted" . So lets hope they can put breathing s p a c e s between her lines. Perhaps make it more computery like this:

Here is the "official" forum page for general feedback, I wasn't told to go to that page, but none the less, tons of paying subscribers (or PLEX users, still contributing to the commerce) asking for the previous voice.
It's crazy that the new voice under general feedback received no compliments, none!

Can't tell anything about the last tutorial since I am a new player, but I had an issue with this one. It was more a mismanipulation on my part than anything relative to the tutorial itself, but here it is : I somehow managed to dismiss Aura and I couldn't get her back. Maybe there is a way but there is so much to look at when you are new, so much menus to read that I litterally couldn't find the right one, thus the right option to get Aura back. Without her, I was afraid I overlooked something important, so I made a new character and was careful not to dismiss her that time.
I would recommend an easy way to get Aura back, such as an icon that is easily found by brand new eyes to the board. |

Complete Newbie here - found it a bit odd that the tutorial didn't mention important elements like weapons reach and the relation between fitting and capacitor usage. As someone mentioned above, insurance should also be covered.
Also the sites were a bit too big in my opinion. Takes minutes to get to the next step. Maybe you should throw in more rats (especially at the Sisters of Eve location). |

I have the same problem as the reply two above.
I have dismissed Aura - how do you get her to return?
Otherwise, it looks like a ~ten hour wait until I can delete the character? Correct? |

It woulld be very useful to know how to restart the tutorial if it gets into a "bugged state". This did happen to me and I am either miussing something or they does not seem to be a way to start Aura/tutorial again once it is dismissed.
Also I am very much a fan of the old Aura voice, the new one is harsh and far from immersive. The old voice is Eve the new one not. |

I've visited EVE several times over the last years, so I've encountered the different tutorials. And CCP might not like my opinion, but I found the older one, where Aura guided you through your first steps, much better than opportunities and this iteration of the NPE.
Since I watched the EVE Vegas presentation, I know what you are aiming for, but this tutorial is as incomplete as opportunities were. Right now you are delivering at most 10% of the information, a new capsuleer needs to know. The old Aura tutorial did a much better job by pointing you to evelopedia articles to get more information. But since evelopedia was closed, this is no longer an option. So, like opportunities at it's release, this is just a tech demo of the new NPE. Which had better stayed on the test server to be completed. This very incomplete release of the new tutorial should not be presented to new players. But neither should the incomplete version of opportunities ...
I know, that you want to guide the new player to a remarkeble experience, and that you are doing well. Besides it's bugs and missing content, this tutorial tells an interesting story.
But what I'm missing, are the learning goals to achieve. After the tutorial, a new player should know, how to earn ISK to get more skills and better ships, and how to find necessary information on his own. Additionally you should not just tell the newbie to find a corp, but tell him, HOW he can find a GOOD corp. Players who are lucky will stay, and players who are unlucky will leave. Simply showing the link to the corp window and explaining the search options isn't enough. A new player needs some help to get lucky! |

@Carl : As I told before, I am new to the game and thus I can't compare to the previous version of the tutorial. But what I can tell is that the apparent lack of information serves a greater purpose in my opinion, which is that you have to look around, you have to discover, open tabs, fetch the information that you need or want. But most of all you have to observe.
While a was harvesting my first veldspar and plagioclase for instance, I noticed that other players used two drills (makes sense), others combined with drones. I clicked Show info and, doing so on an on, I managed to find all by myself how to get drones, compared things in market such as blueprints vs items directly, etc. etc. I now know what will be my next ship using the ressources available ingame. I figured how to sell what I mine at the price I want considering jumps, other player offers, ressource availability, etc. etc.
I mean, I am new, but I think the real way to learn is to observe and to be curious. IMO, the actual tutorial is just fine : fast and sweet, and the rest is just fun discovery. And I bet one of the main purposes of such a minimalized tutorial is to filter players. You have to invest time to get it, so it's even better for me. So much online games out there are too accessible to anybody. |

So....when if this getting finished?
Wish I was joking.
1) No information or advice about weapon ranges.
2) No information or advice about the difference between shield, armour and hull repair modules or when best to use them.
3) Voice acted sections being fired at you on auto-play with no pause between them to let you absorb what the last person just told you, and no means to play back any of them.
4) Docking or any other session change skips whatever voice acting section is currently playing, meaning you miss out on being told what to do next.
5) Leaving the industry window open whilst making the civ data analyser breaks the tutorial; fitting the module then bumps it forward a couple of steps and lets you continue. Breaking the NPE is also possible by killing NPC before being told to do so or doing pretty much anything before being told to do it.
6) Skill queue only very briefly touched on and the mini injector barely used at all. Please make Aura suggest other skills to add to the queue and use more of the injector.
7) No fitting advice given at all, no mention of PG, CPU, rig calibration, slot limits, turret hardpoints, missile hardpoints, drone bays, weapons needing ammo, NOTHING.
8) Getting the player to web the Force Auxilliary "to slow it down" Really?! Same player then taking down said capital ship with civilian weapons?! REALLY?!
9) Laughable voice acting from the npc fleet members, all meshing together, very difficult to make out with the amount of "radio static" effect and using the same face for all of the speakers.
10) Capacitor is only casually mentioned in passing (during the afterburner explanation), the importance of it totally ignored.
11) No intro video to introduce players to the backstory of the factions, the drifters, capsuleers, cloning etc.
12) After being given a new frigate and thee guns, Aura constantly telling the player to "activate your primary weapon" and the pointer only pointing at the F1 slot may end up with players only firing one bloody weapon.
13) Distances in the NPE are vast and very boring to travel through, even with the afterburner on.
14) Hacking is not explained very well and the firewall icon should be displayed next to the core icon in Aura's description panel so that players know what it looks like before they stumble upon it.
15) The fleet forward base is a mess of little square LCO brackets instead of an impressive array of ships to drool over.
16) Every race being given a Tristan skin.
Yes, the NPE is a million times better then it was but it's still terribly shoddy. |

Ok, I ran through the NPE.
1. Empire descriptions sound like they were written by a Gallante. Amarr perform "acts of unspeakable for their god." No Amarr would say that. Empire descriptions should sound like they are a recruiting quote. If we are going for objective, then the Gallante need a negative in their description. Because the other races all had something negative said about them EXCEPT the Gallante. Since the Gallante are supposed to be a true democracy (not a representative democracy) then a good negative would be, "but the voices of minorities are often unheard by the overwhelming majority" or some such.
2. Intro video didn't play when I created new account to play the NPE.
3. The moving blue selection window should never cover the hud, the select target window, or any other window for that matter. Moving the view around to get the blue window out of the way was a constant source of annoyance.
4. Caldari should probably receive a shield booster not an armor booster, or Aura's comment should be modified. She says to use the module when you "take damage". But any newbie could be easily confused when they see red and hit the armor repper, and see no change since the armor rep does nothing until armor takes damage, Aura should explain the whole shields/armor/structure thing, and suggest turning on the armor rep when armor damage is taken instead. If you don't switch to a shield boost.
5. There needs to be an easy and OBVIOUS way for newbies to replay or reset a previous stage. Rookie help is full of people asking questions that were answered, very quickly, by Aura. They need a way to replay stuff if they didn't hear it all or hear it well. Remember that people are probably distracted and confused so they won't necessarily comprehend everything no matter how simple it may seem. Also, they need a way to replay stuff because the tutorial got stuck for many people. One example of the tutorial getting stuck, I helped a newbie that was stuck at "Recruit please respond." The Commander just stopped speaking and wouldn't continue. I gave a lot of the usual help advice, before making a minmatar and doing the tutorial to see that it worked fine for me. The portrait menu should be clickable so that the newbie "can respond" in an intuitive way if the playback doesn't continue. This poor dude was stuck for over an hour at a point that should have progressed automatically.
6. One very common rookie question was, "where is my injector?" They all could find the cargo hold but they couldn't find the main menu because it didn't occur to many people that the E at the top was a clickable object. Aura should not just SAY were stuff is. There should be a picture description, or at least the blue annoying box should walk the newbie through it.
7. Stupid pop-up radial menu needs to be looked at. In the process of trying to move the helpful-but-annoying-moving-except-when-it-covered-something-important blue window out of my way, I was constantly clicking in space and sometimes activating the radial menu accidentally. Anyone who spends lots of time online knows that many pop-ups are deactivated by clicking in an empty space of the window. Which is what I did. Somehow this changed my default orbit distance to 100km. Radial menu should ignore clicks outside the menu radius. I can totally see any newbie having this same problem and not having a clue how to fix it, maybe not even realizing why they can't hit anything, because they are 100k out.
8. Another point where the tutorial froze was when trying to use the blueprint. The production window would open, but the bottom of the window wouldn't populate. It took 4 attempts to get this to work.
9. After collecting the scientists and others, they were never removed from my cargo. They should been removed on arrival at station.
10. Maybe have an auto-repeat function. If someone is in the tutorial seems active, but is not progressing, automatically have aura or the commander repeat their last instruction after 5 minutes of no progress. This would also give the tutorial a chance to reset if the tutorial itself broke.
11. Most MMOs the flavor text of quests is pretty much irrelevant. Newbies are clicking through the flavor text and wondering why their ship is being blown up. Maybe use red-blinky text for this part to get newbies used to the fact that flavor text is actually important to read.
12. Why can't mission description text be increased in size yet? This game is over 10 years old. Every time monitors increase in resolution the text gets smaller. Eve is still designed for 480x680 but most of us are playing at much higher resolution. Please let people adjust the size of mission description text the same way we can increase/decrease chat text. Newbies aren't reading the fine print.
13. Why is exploration career giving out a logistics frigate in 2 of 5?
14. Rookie system belts are mined out pretty fast. Any tutorial missions should go to missions space to mine.
15. Since the tutorial has newbies fly to neighboring systems, those systems should be added to the protected list.

Ok, just went through it again as an Amarr. And some of the problem I had as caldari didn't happen. I had other problems.
1. This time Aura properly showed how to retrieve the redeemable items, but my Caldari did not get instructed. She didn't tell me to activate my armor rep when I took damage, unlike my caldari who was.
2. When I was trying to warp to the final encounter, the spatial rift kept sending me to the gate in the next system. Then aura set destination sent me one system over. Then I warped to the spatial rift, and repeated this 4 times before finally arriving at the hive.
3. Unknown sequence and Scientist and other survivors still in cargo.
4. The Operations Info Panel does have a reset button, it is the ?. The ? should be red and not transparent so people see it. It's no goIt's practically invisible on a light background with a lot of bloom. I only noticed it the second playthrough because I was specifically fiddling with everything as a tester who already knew the interface.

Thought I'd provide some positive feedback after my earlier list of problems with the NPE:
1) Great that newbros get taught about hacking.
2) Great that they get involved in a fleet battle and are tasked with taking out the smaller ships and tackling the big one.
3) Ship loss and pod death covered. New people need to know these events are common, and loss is permanent.
4) Loving that corvettes now come with an afterburner as well as a mining laser and weapon.
5) Pop-up tool tips are a very good thing.
6) Using the redeem feature and moving items between different inventory locations is good.
7) Seeker death animations and explosions are fantastic.
8) Introduction to manufacturing is good.
The NPE still needs a lot of work but it's far superior to any previous version.

This is good stuff. Pop ups are hella useful and the lack of walls of text make things much easier. Couple of things ive noticed so far,
- My minmatar alpha was given a tristan skin... :( - i have my station services window on the left of my hud, when aura tells me to undock and a pop up appears pointing to the undock button, the text covers the button so that it cannot be pressed.

Hey all,
I have read all of the comments in this thread so far, and more than a few seem to come from Veteran players, so I thought I would add a noob's ten cents worth...
About a year ago I bought a new high spec PC specifically for Elite: Dangerous, but that is a game I have hardly touched (different story for a different thread).
However, at about that time I had read several stories in the UK mainstream media about a game called EvE, with massive space battles involving thousands of players, which cost certain characters not insignificant amounts of money. I also discovered James315 and his cohorts (whom I find hilarious and just), the Mittani (WTF?), EvEnews24 and all sorts of other goodies that have evolved outside of the game.
Now being a bit of a contrarian, I thought "I quite fancy blowing up some big boys' toys" whilst playing a game which is set in a true sandbox.
So in 2015 (I think) I signed up for the EvE two week trial and I found the tutorials atrocious. Basically it seemed I was instructed on simple ship control, how to aim a gun, how to talk to an NPC agent and then, young pilot, you can now bugger off and annoy someone else. I had next to no idea how to pilot a ship, how to equip it (I believe "fit" is the correct term) or what to do with the bloody thing if I did manage to fly it more than a few AUs from where I started.
Maybe a day later I was recruited by Pandemic Horde, I somehow managed (like a chicken through a field of foxes) to get to their base in nullsec/lowsec/whereversec and then the base seemed to get blown up. I really have no idea what happened, one minute I was given a shed load of skill books/blueprints/ships (with absolutely no idea what to do with them) and then the next minute everything went red and I was dead.
That was the end of my first trip to New Eden.
Since then my high spec PC has spent 99% of it's time playing OOTP Baseball and the Dodgers have won the World Series four out of five attempts. Some of you will think this is righteous and some will have already marked me for DEATH in EvE!
Fast forward to a couple of days ago. I was perusing PC Gamer online because work was quiet, and there was an article on the new F2P release of EvE. So I thought I would have another crack at it, because the idea still appeals to me, and minerbumping.com still makes me laugh - sometimes out loud...
I fired up EvE again on my PC, spent half an hour messing about because the launcher had changed, and created a new character - the man who is addressing you all now.
Finally, we get to the New Player Experience, the holy grail upon which this thread was built.
I F*****G LOVED IT!
The old EvE noob experience felt like stumbling around in the dark, surrounded by primed landmines after your eyes had been gouged out with spoons and you had been kicked in the head by a wilderbeast.
The New Player Experience feels like I am stumbling around in the dark, surrounded by primed landmines (some of which actually decide to give my tired old feet a little massage, rather than blow them off), and my eyes are still in my head. The wilderbeast is now on the BBQ .
I can now make my ship go where I want it to go. Most of the time. OK, some of the time. OK, rarely, but that is an improvement.
I can now put stuff on my ship, like guns, and ammo, and go faster stripes. Still not sure what I am actually loading, ammo wise, but they usually don't run out of bullets...
I can now deal miserable death to any NPC bad guy that comes my way (as long as it is in a rubber dinghy compared to my Slasher).
I can now... Well, that's all I can probably manage at the moment, but the point is that I now have a vague idea of what I am doing, rather than no f*****g clue whatsoever.
Point is, now I am actually having fun in EvE, I feel the need to progress, I feel the need to learn, I feel the need to Blow Up Spaceships. I am taking the military tasks so I can learn how to fight, and when I can fight, I will pay my subscription, disappear to nullsec and assemble the mightiest coalition that this game HAS EVER SEEN!
Remember, you heard it hear first.
Kind regards, to future friends and foes,
Hannibal.

I'm having this odd problem right at the beginning of the tutorial. The new tutorial is only available to new accounts. You can still do the career agents.

I'm working my way through the career agents right now, and I've discovered, that there are no longer any explanations to the tasks. I can remember the time, when you got a lengthy presentation popup explaning e.g. how scanning with probes works. Additionally you got a lot of skill books with these explanations.
What happend to all this good and helpful stuff? And how is a new player supposed to figure out, how exploration and hacking is working?

This was in the trial account and the old tutorial
The NPE new tutorial is only for people who created a new account AFTER the implementation of Eve: Assention.
So what you are describing still exists, but only with brand new accounts.

Hm, since this is a brand new pilot, which moved from NPE to the career agents, I don't know what you are talking about. Or do you want to point out, that the existing explanations were switched off with the introduction of the NPE?But then my question is valid: how is a new player supposed to learn complex stuff like scanning with probes?

The NPE does not explain scanning? If not then yes, this is an issue. The old "opportunities" map is still present. Perhaps that gives clearer explanations as to what to do. |

That's what I am talking about. The old career agents were embedded into a tutorial with lots of information and some giveaway stuff. Why are the videos not connected likewise?
Example: before I got a civilian missile launcher via the mission briefing, and the skills and missiles via tutorial presentation. Now there is only the briefing, but no tutorial, so the player has to look for the missiles and the necessary skills for themselfes.
Another example: since I thought I knew how scanning works, I accepted the mission, warped to a planet, launched the probes and hit F10 .... only to discover, that the solar system map no longer shows the probes scan range globes and the scan results. Send in a bug report. Next day I found out, that there are videos explaining stuff, and that there is a different solar system map to be used for scanning. Modified the bug report from UI to gameplay. This opens up two questions: why did anybody thought that using two different star system maps would be a good idea? And why are the career missions no longer linked to a tutorial of any sort?

2) Resetting/restoring tutorial. People click about and cannot go back to it. Agreed to above about voice acting being machine gun quality.
3) How about real fitted frigate to show how ship should look like? Also tutorial/career agent about fitting itself (the intro section is cluttered as it is)
4) scanning/probes not explained, lots of people confused in chat.
5) unrealistic expectations about going against cruisers or FAX. If rookie would try to kill circardian seeker as he was shown in tut expect fireworks. |

There should be some explanation in the NPE about faction standings, and how doing security missions might cause some travel problems later.
Maybe have the first security mission outside the career missions give an explanation about the importance of faction standing and even suggest that declining a mission might be the preferred method of avoiding angering a given faction. Unfortunatly, explaining this early in the tutorial would just be forgotten.
In fact, the biggest problem with the tutorial is that it is all-at-once. So it quickly reaches the point of information overload for most people and they forget a lot of what they are told almost immediately.

A minor bug in the NPE. New character, Amarr.
Inside the Pirate Den. NPE did not recognise that I was at the required location.
After docking for the first time, I undocked and used the tutorial prompt to warp to the pirate den. After I arrived, the prompt didn't progress because it didn't recognise that I was in the correct area. I was at the pirate den site, just not within whatever specific area triggers the NPE to progress, and there was no further prompting from Aura.
I saw a red pirate ship, so I blew it up, and all the other pirate ships that spawned after that, even though the NPE still had not progressed, it was still waiting for me to arrive at the location.
After popping all the pirate ships and flying around some more with no change to the NPE, I warped back to the station, then back to the pirate den site. This time whatever trigger was required worked and the NPE progressed to flying through the gas cloud and using the supplied repper. I flew through the cloud to the prompted object, took no damage (because the object that causes the ship damage wasn't a cloud, it was a targetable object, which I also popped the first time I was at the site).
End result: It's possible to warp to the pirate den site and destroy all hostile objects without the NPE progressing, causing the NPE to become stuck.
I realise I can get a GM to force the NPE to progress, but a new player could find this situation very frustrating. |

The tutorial, don't seem bad, at least the 5 minutes I was able to do before breaking it.
How to break the tutorial:
1) loot the wrecks before it ask you to do that. It never recognize that you already have the survivors on board and it don't trigger the next step.
2) try the rest button. It will reset the space around you, deleting all the wrecks. Now you have nothing to interact with.
Poor nero will go into the biomass for a new alt with wick I will test the tutorial.

Newbie here, played i think 2 evenings so far and created 2 characters. Overall I like the initial tutorial but i faced few problems which led me to create another character
1) Assault on Hive (or whatever that mission is called), i got a brand new frigate and some usefull items to fit to it. I went to the Hive and almost completed the mission just to realize that my frigate was destroyed. I had to fly back to station in my capsule and try the mission again with my Corvette class ship -> impossible at least for a first timer.
2) Created a new character and this time to make sure i read all possible information about the Hive mission and first thing i noticed that I can actually fit 3 civilian gatling guns to it, with the defender module and repair module. This time the hive mission was a piece of cake, my frigate did not even take a scratch (except when the Hive actually blowed up).
3) Tutorial completed, i got a new mining ship and Aura asked me to go see the agents,. Sure, ok, i'll just try the new mining ship first. After a while, got back to my Ibis and heading to see the agents couple of jumps away, with autopiloting. Cool, i got there but I realized that my brand new mining ship is still at the first station and I have no idea where that station is located o_O
4) Carry on, i chose to follow the Explorer path if I could learn how to navigate in the systems and finally find my miner ship. Explorer tutorial is, how to say politely, Pain in the ass, for a newbie. First 2 mission are quite ok, just press "Set location" and autopilot. The next 3 parts of the tutorial was so annoying I had to stop playing more than once, only to try again few hours later to see if i missed something on the briefing.
5) Finally managed to struggle to the 5/5 part of the mission, which I have not yet completed. I had to google step by step instructions how to complete this tutorial with no luck, until I found a youtube video how to use probes. I am not quite convinced that I can finally complete Explorer tutorial, but I am going to try in later in the evening.
Overall i really like the atmosphere and look and feel of the game, but the learning curve seems to be very difficult |

Scanning is one of those things that just makes sense to me. But having recently spent my month in the rookie help channel, I ended up regularly answering the questions about mission 1 'how do I open the cosmic overlay?' - 'it's badly worded, just hit alt-p'
And then mission 3, where you actually have to learn to probe.
I think there needs to be a FAQ in the mission instruction, or there needs to be a quick aura assisted step by step like there is in the initial NPE. It can be summarised pretty quickly.
Step 1 - warp somewhere (not actually needed, but stops having so many probes on people's overview at the undock.) step 2 - hit alt-p / open probe scanner with a button step 3 - launch pinpoint formation step 4 - open solar system map step 5/6/7 - Hit analyse. List updates. double click the cosmic signature you want in probe scanner window (e.g. data training site) to center solar system map, drag white box to red sphere/dot, spin map, drag it again, spin map & drag it again. Probe scanner is now centred on cosmic signature. (Change radius of scanners if needed.) Hit analyse. Repeat until you get a warp to button.
The short version for regularly typing into rookie help is alt-p, launch probes, open solar system map, drag probes around & scan. It's not obvious that solar system map is a thing if you're brand new and aren't used to clicking buttons to see what happens.
there are also other issues, like idiot-proofing something always producing a more determined idiot. I helped one guy who had done part 1 & 2, and was now on part 3, the first one you need to actually scan. He kept complaining he went to site and there was nothing to hack. turns out, he wasn't going to data training site or relic training site, he kept on going to anomaly training site, the one you need for mission 1 that doesn't have to be scanned down.

alt-t
I think including that in the NPE would also be good. Even if it's as simple as after you dock at career agent station, aura reminds you that you left 10m^3 of random stuff back at your old home 1-2 systems away, and you need to go and get it. alt-T to open your stuff, right click and set destination to that station, fly to it, get it, fly back to career agents.

why is there no ammo in my turret? ammo needs to be installed? Oh.
damage types? whats that? shield hull and structure?
Shield tanking hull tanking? is that a thing that people do?
Industry ok I made the data analiser and put it in my inventory why is tutorial still telling me to do that?
ok I did the tutorial and used my mini skill injector. damn It looks like I should have sold it for 600 mil instead/ 2 alts doing the tutorial and selling the injectors can pay for a plex that is so messed up.
omg Standings...........I am so lost. do the npc's really make me attack my own race and I get a -5 standings against my own faction for doing a security mission...... OOOOOPS
btw the voice acting.... I don't use sound so I read the script under the picture of the commander and aura and sit there for 5 minutes for the talking to end. soooo slow of a wait w/o advance to the next objective.
Oh crap I could have insured that ship that got blown up at the drifter hive. huh.
Why are all those other ships exiting warp right at the star gate and I have to fly slow for 10 km. what people tell me not to use Autopilot.... ok gotcha. autopilot is useless.

Hi
I think the new tutorial is a vast improvement over the old one. My only sugestion would be to shrink the 'here' icons (for example: when it points to stop your ship button)
Also, in some ways the tutorial explains how to play EvE - but NOT the game. By that I mean how players can use poor gameplay strateges I.E drop a yellow can outside a new player station for an easy kill to up their kill board. Very Cheesey indeed if thats YOU
I suppose it is all part of the learning curve, but maybe some 'dirty tatics' should be explained in the tutorial? Obviously not all could be explained otherwise you wouldn't finish it !!
More around overview setting would also be good - colour setting, etc.etc.
Anyway love the game - I also have a full Omega clone running

Could not reset the 2nd part of tutorial after shooting the Npc rat. Aura claimed to have highlighted the wreck or cargo container but nothing was found. I tried resetting my overviews to filter everything out but any containers.
Not sure if bug or not since I did the 2nd bit a few days after the 1st intro and return to base.
Speaking of overviews. Its still an annoying but essential function and usage should be covered sooner since your spaceship life depends on it. It hasn't been improved much since the early days. Yes I know how to use it but its cumbersome and hard to look at depending on what your doing. |

I'm an Eve veteran, recently returned and I'm knowing the various tutorials the were released in the last 8 years.
Julien Brellier summarizes the currenty issues very well.
One thing that happened to me, while doing the new tutorial:
- when building the civilian data analyzer I found the industry window being "stuck". I could not start the production, because a suitable facility could not be found (only an animated circle for several minutes). Had to restart the client to get the task done.
While the new NPE is not bad regarding story and optical effects (some things are a bit ridiculous from a veterans point of view), there is a huge gap as soon as this tutorial ends.
EVE is a very complex game. A tutorial that should present a new player a path to get along on its own, is not done in about an hour.
The career agents are old (I don't think they have changed in the last 5-8 years). They cover some aspects of the game, but currently there is nothing the explains the concepts of "how do I fit a ship" for a certain purpose (armor, shield, buffer, speed tank). Also the mechanics behind the different weapon systems are nowhere to be found (optimal, falloff, tracking - missile speed, explosion radius, explosion speed).
You can read various numbers with these terms on certain items. What is being needed is an ingame LINK at each term that explains the mechanics.
I was doing a mission on an alt today and had to destroy some kind of structure. The structure was not shown in the overview, so I had to check my overview setting for "large collideable structures". I think a new player would quit this mission (maybe even the game), because it is too hidden and you need to know what you are looking for. I think there should be an option when reading the mission text, to switch on all necessary overview settings to find things relevant for a mission.
There are a lot of other GUI improvements I could think of, but that do not belong in this thread.

Why does the new tutorial podkill you? Is this a cruel joke? I already had a set of implants in before I bothered going through this tutorial. And now, as a part of the tutorial, it podded me and I lost all those implants.
Why would you do this? Not everyone will instantly go through the tutorial. I for example bought a set of implants first while I was busy doing other things, then came back to the game and now this. |

It needs to be more flexible. I've run it for fun and got it bugged straight away as I didn't follow the tutorial to the letter (i.e. I killed an npc prematurely).
Having sat in rookie help for a week, rookies are doing this all the time.
I'd actually remove the NPE for now as it's confusing the hell out of a lot of people as it's pretty bugged and there's rarely a GM in rookie help in EU timezones. |

Technically a returning player but my first character (2008) was so long ago that I am a noob. I don't remember there being much if any training for new pilots back then, but it do remember it make more then a week to get my character basic skills, and a month to have even a remote chance outside of HighSec. Things have really changed a lot.
When I went through the tutorial, there was a part where you travel through a gas cloud then you have to fight pirates, then you pick up supplies. After killing the first set of pirates I didn't pick up the supplies correctly. During the second wave I ended up back in gas cloud and had to warp away before being destroyed. Back at the base I repaired the ship and warped back. I finished off the second round of pirates, but I was not near the crate. It was just dumb luck in traveling through the system that I found it again and was able to continue.
I think there should be a more of a tutorial on finding things that don't immediately show up on the overview.
Also, outside of the tutorial I got a Venture, which supports drones, but I have no idea how to equip or use them or even what they are good for. Looks like I can equip mining drones, but it would make more sense for me to have a security drone so the venture can focus on mining. |

I think it was to force use to the use the afterburner.
But luckily I saw online that you shouldn't use it. So during the tutorials I used "Warp to 0m", or just the straight up "Jump" / "Dock" function which causes a warp automatically. Luckily, the tutorial seems to be ok if you don't use autopilot. |

I have a good friend who played this game ages ago and we also played DUST together. I finally got around to playing the game myself. A lot has changed since my friend played it long ago.
First of all, the game does a very good job of getting you started and teaching you the basics of flying, mining, and fighting. This is a pretty in depth game so it certainly helps to have all of that information.
The one thing I found lacking; and I am not sure if there is a mission that teaches you this aspect of the game or not, is when you need to use those probes for the Exploration line of quests. The first quest you get does virtually nothing to tell you how to use them at all and doesn't even mention anything about in game tutorials being available. I only found that out in a discussion in the rookie help chat. I actually found some tutorials some users made on YouTube before discovering this.
Using Probes doesn't seem all that difficult once you actually understand what exactly it is you are supposed to do. It is just a rather involved process that I think EVE should do a bit better job of explaining it to you.
So far though this is the only thing like this I have come across in my young new piloting career. Now that I know you can hit F12 on the keyboard to bring up tutorials if I ever have an issue like this again I can check there for some help.
Thank you for making such an awesome game. I am very much enjoying my space faring life!

A couple of suggestions while doing the NPE:
IMPROVEMENTS: During enaggement optimal position is orbit your target TO MAKE IT DIFFICULT FOR THE ENEMY TO HIT YOU -it doesnt mention it also makes them more difficult to hit -You're told that you should repair when taking damage. However you receive an armor repairer. At this point you still don't know the difference between armor and shields so the newbie will think that the module does nothing. -Some targets you're told to target appear out of targetting range but the player doesn't still know about targetting range. He only knows he can't target them for some untold reason. -Ship stuck on asteroid and LCOs when approaching the container in the pirate base. A new player just would find his ship not responding without any knowledge of wha'ts happening or how to avoid it. Frustration ensues. -Nobody tells you anything about "Show info", the most useful command to learn the game -Trying to repackage the Ibis while damaged talks returns an error that talks about a "repair shop". The player doesn't know any of that.
BUGS: -wrong Voice file when Aura tells you to open your inventory to "upgrade your ship" -doesnt go forward if you already have the inventory open -same wrong voice file when you fit the civilian armor repairer - same after opening character sheet - Can't pass injecting the Frigate skillbook because I already start with the skill at level II and I receive "You have already trained Caldari Frigate and cannot train it a second time.". Only way to go ahead is to drag the skill already injected into the queue (no way a newbie will do this by himself). -Scientist and survivors remain in cargo even after docking and the pertinent dialogue about them talking with the navy -Tutorial doesn't go forward after delivering civilian data analizer since I had the industry and the inventory window open the whole time.

Hello,
I really enjoyed the new Tutorial and all the changes to the Game. Especially for new players. I have tried the game several times, first time was in Beta (got in with the French) Last time I tried the game was 8 years ago.
This time it hooked me finally. I believe there is room for some small improvements but overall it is a 10x Orders of Magnitude better than before.
Especially in terms of Fun factor and Balance. I know not everything was added recently (I am finding out) but the Tutorial is great, the continuation with Career Agents is also great.
The rewards (Ships Money Fittings skills etc) are good to setup new players a bit more solidly on their feet and ease the steep learning curve and minimize the shock of losses. Besides many of today's MMORPG players are not used to an Old School Sandbox (I player Ultima Online for 5 years before EVE). Still as much as I have always liked EVE's Sandbox Premise, Open ended Play and Sandbox focus. It was some specific mechanics and balance that kept me away, which now seem to have been addressed very nicely, or at least definitely greatly improved.
I have not moved on to the SOE Epic arc yet but looking forward to it as well.
It is all very exciting so far and looking forward to explore and discover more.
Suggestions for Improvements:
In the tutorial missions the first Top Frigate Handed to the player might be good to include a step about Insurance.
The Agent Mission reward the same ship (Basic Combat line) so that is good but players do not know it in advance, and the BPC given requires some materials which can only come from either the market or 0.4. The market can be costly and without insurance money new players may feel constrained should they wish to rebuild the Frigate. Mining in 0.4 comes of course with a risk, and for new players can turn in to further losses which could discourage some.
So insurance step before the big engagement battle of the Tutorial would be great. It would teach new players about minimizing losses too, as it is and integral part of EVE.
The rest flows very well.
On the Career Agents my only comment is n relation to Exploration. It is very exciting Career. As an Explorer Type player it got me hooked. However it is disappointing to find out that there is not much to do in High Sec with exploration as Site are very rare and one either needs to venture in WH's (which I did a couple of times, for the first time Yay!) or go to low sec. Both are not easy prospects for new players without proper skills ship and fitting knowledge.
It therefore is an exciting aspect of the game but that new players have to wait for. It maybe good to add some more sites in High Sec.
Or have an Advanced Exploration Career agent to further guide a player. Albeit, the fun of a Sandbox game is to make new friends and establish relations with other players interact and learn like that. So I am skeptical about too much Player2NPC interaction beyond New Player Phase.
Maybe a career Agent could be steer players towards interaction with others put them in contact with some Player run Organizations which hold neutral status in EVE and are welcoming everyone willing to help grow.
Another area is Planetary Colonization, this is new to me but there doe snot seem to be a Career agent to teach about it. Maybe a future addition?
To close, my initial impression this time around has been quite positive. I lost a few ships (one in a WH) but thanks to the NPE I was able to absorb the shock in a smoother way and recover in away which permits me as a player to learn form my own mistakes as I am not totally handicapped, and thus grow in a more paced way. I just love the new Mining Frigates, no more mining with 25 cubic meters cargo hold back and forth to base, hehe, this is great. The specialized holds.bays are a great improvement.
Many Time sinks and Tedium have been eased out or all together removed. And I think this is overall very positive for EVE, because, intentional tedium and times sinks, are a thing of the past and also at some level I would say conflict with the essence of freedom a sandbox is characterized with. The playground vs the Themepark, but if the play ground has obstacles then it loses its appeal. And EVE has much depth and much potential even after all these years which would go undiscovered with too many obstacles.
So thank you Devs for this new refreshing Direction :) |

HI everyone,
The Tutorial, or New Player Experience is great congrats on work well done.
Just one thing for me: why is most of the targets so far? Like the info shard, 107 km away, really? Bit of a waste of time.
Thanks. |

Hello ISD Athechu,
I started playing this game in June 2008 and over the years I've experienced various versions of the NPE. I agree 100% with what all of the other players have posted, both pros and cons for this latest NPE.
I'd just like to add that it's a bit confusing to all of a sudden be thrust into the middle of a battle in a ship right after completing Character Creation. Granted the new tutorial is on the right track but I think part of the old tutorial should have been included with this new one.
To be more specific the player should appear in the Captains Quarters first right after Character Creation with Aura explaining the basic functions and how to access the various station services. The last station service to be explained should be on how to fit and operate the Corvette before joining the Battle where the Fleet Commander takes over to give instruction on basic piloting tactics. After the player gets podded, have Aura explain about clones and give the player a Combat Frigate BPC before being sent to the Career Agents.
The pop up communication portraits of Aura, the Fleet Commander and the Scientist should be animated a bit, they seem second rate compared to all of the detailed action happening on screen. I understand the reason for showcasing the Radial Menu but it's done way too much, the actual Overview and the Selected Item boxes are barely mentioned. Also the enemy NPC's should be race specific per Faction, meaning since I'm Minmatar I should be fighting against Angel Cartel, not against weak fake versions of the super Drifters currently active in-game.

I really enjoyed the tutorial as a new player I feel it did a great job getting a new player into the story. I agree As already mentioned about the radial menu as I think it's use is more confusing then just using the overview, but generally I feel the tutorial does a great job.
I would probably suggest some kind of warning to new players about gate camps though as it is probably the worst thing a new player is going to have to deal with and as there is nothing a new player can really do against it without spending days charting safe spots and using 3rd party utilities as this is something which most new players won't do and just quit playing instead. I know by the 4th or 5th time I hit a gate camp I was ready to quit and had it not been for a generous pirate to offer to buy me another ship I would have quit for sure. I quickly lost that ship 5 minutes later to another gate camp, but it was enough hope to at least to keep me going. So with little funds left I re rolled another toon and started again through the wonderful tutorial and followed by running all the career missions which has at least kept me in the game a bit longer. All in all I would say the tutorial has probably been my favorite part of the game. After the tutorial ends though it feels like I'm playing Russian roulette with a gun half loaded....pick a gate and half the time lose all your stuff.
I understand that being new is tough, but perhaps some kind of warning to let new people know what really is in store for them when the tutorial ends and how easy it is to get put out of the game so early in their career. My first toon lasted 1 day and was done. I can only imagine how many other players get taken out of the game on their first day and call it quits. |

So I just finished this. Not bad. I didn't want my new ship to blow up but apparently that's the game :( After that I went to the agents it suggested. The combat ones where fun, the exploration one was too. Even business was ok. but Industry was stupid. The last one requiring you to build 5,000 ammo. It takes hours for no reason. I would have just bought it but the text said NO BUYING IT.
My biggest problem was that upon finishing these quests I put a scanning ship together (whatever one had a boost to scanning) and set out. I made it to a system and started scanning down a relic site. For some reason it would not go past 69% and just stayed orange the whole time. IT wasn't until 30 minutes later I saw there was a tool tip saying it was difficulty IV or something. I'm guessing I need higher skills for it then? I plugged in Astro something (probe strength) and logged off since I couldn't progress anymore.
It would be nice to demon strait these difficulties in the tutorial so I don't keep trying to do something that is impossible. I'm also curious where the next plot mission is. Not sure where to find that information. |

Just the thread I was looking for.
So, I am a noob to Eve. Was looking for something a little more complex and challenging than STO. Been playing that for years, but have more free time now, and there isn't much challenge to it, so after some research I settled on Eve.
Back when Eve was new, there was another MMO that came out around that time if memory serves me correctly, that I spent the better part of a decade playing, Anarchy Online. And to give a little more perspective, back in prehistoric times I programmed in Cobol, Fortran, etc. before there was Windows.
That said, the intro became grueling quick... because every time you don't follow the breadcrumbs, and do it exactly the way your AI companion is instructing you to do it, it likes to bug out, and the mission can't complete, or restarts at an earlier point, etc.
So while my AI companion is babbling on about how I have to warp and jump over to this other place, I'm already on my way... ooops... then she says I am supposed to hit Auto Pilot to get there, or she should have, not sure, I was splitting my time between piloting myself there and scrolling over skills info.
Or earlier there was that part where I am supposed to rescue a scientist, but ooops, I had already been poking around and rescued her already... that didn't work out so well either.
I guess what I am saying, is that for those people who are used to playing these types of games, and like to solve things as quick as there curious minds can, this is going to be oh so annoyingly frustrating that they have to do everything step by step or the mission will likely bug, and you are stuck wasting time redoing it, or worse.
What is needed here is a few more simple If x = y then go to A, if the scientist is in the player's inventory, the program needs to move the story ahead, not jerk the player backwards because he can't go rescue her when told... because she's already rescued.
Or if I get to my destination but never hit the Auto Pilot to do it, I shouldn't be stuck in an incomplete mission that I now have to try to fix through some time consuming back tracking... because I preferred to start my journey before the lengthy dissertation I was being given got around to telling me to hit the Auto Pilot to get there.
And don't get me going about the mining mission that tells me to go mine an ore, that I haven't found after visiting about 50 asteroid belts, where are the bread crumbs for that one?
So a lot to like about the game, from what little I have seen so far, but the types of glitches I am mentioning are making it tough to fall in love with it on day one. |

My friend, may I offer you a bit of advice?
Take a half hour out of your life to watch a YouTube video or two about any new MMO game you want to play, there are always players doing reviews on youtube, telling you the 'secrets' about games... its worth your time, and sure enough one thing everyone seemed to talk/write about was gank squads/ambushes outside 'safe' zones. Especially around jump gates, learning not to use auto pilot they say helps that.
The best way around that for a new player is to stay IN the safe zones and learn about how the game mechanics work, for the first day or two anyways.

Just wanted to do a follow up, in case anyone is reading these (posted yesterday Dakkara).
Today was Day 2 and I ran a new character/race through, all the way went smooth with no problems, figured out what I did wrong with the opening agent mission, and have so far completed to the 3rd mining mission, I now have two Venture mining ships, more than 3 mil ISK, and have to say it has been smooth sailing thanks to the help of those who gave me some advice on the Rookie channel.
Comparing this to the learning curve for Noobs to what I experienced over the years on Anarchy Online, STO, and a couple others I ran thru, I would have to say this is as good as any I have dealt with, especially considering the complexity and depth of this game.
Feel a lot more comfortable today than I did at the end of day one.

I've never played EVE before, I don't want to offend sensibilities but the game never interested me until now perhaps my growth as a player brought me to this type of complex game . I made two accounts with 3 Alphas each to do the tutorials, know the game and learn basic game mechanics. In two clones bugged tutorials was impossible to proceed tutorial and IA come into conflict. In four clones success, no bugs, everything works fine you go from zero to hero. (was fun)
Let's talk about that start from scratch in the game, some things need to be better explained, how to load guns is not clear , some subjects simply are not addressed no mention of rigs, cloaking .
If goal is to just teach the basics I consider 80% complete about what I need to know to play in a very limited way.
I think the whole preparation really don-Št shows how much this game is hostile to new players but is another subject. |
