Extended downtime this Tuesday from 8-14 UTC?
When the heck is that? EVE is on GMT, stop messing around with different suffixes and stick to GMT.

GMT and UTC are the same thing (from the perspective of Joe Average)
They probebly said UTC because people think GMT is British Time (Which is actually +1 Hour due to daylight savings). --

UTC is actually new to me and I'm from the UK. I know it stands for Universal Time Constant, but it's just a new fangled way of saying GMT.
Whith all the time abreviations such as MST, CST, EST, BST, OMGWTFT lets not start changing things from what everyone knows. EVE is GMT and nothing else.

Actually, that's not what it stands for. Common mistake, though. It actually stands for Coordinated Universal Time- only the order is different so as to appease both French and English speakers (oddly, they decided to appease them by no using either the English OR the French, and going with a third way that makes no sense to either language). Go figure. --------

It was a slight oversight and we fixed it, MOTD now says GMT.

Edited by: Elgar Lightfoot on 02/04/2007 12:18:43 Well thats enough reason not to use it for me. To hell with trying to be politically correct or pleasing anyone. It's three letters and three letters that it's been for decades.

Edited by: Caol on 02/04/2007 12:48:08 GMT is too ...er, British? UTC therefore provides a happy medium for those people that like saying the same thing but with a different word - gets rid of any awkardness for us Bristisherers (/phew).
Sarcasm aside, alot of people in the UK and probably everywhere get confused between GMT and GMT + 1 (British summertime) thinking that global GMT must change for the whole world when in fact its just adding an hour to GMT to get some more sunshine in the evening - perfect for tea and biscuits, or scones, cream and strawberry jam (probably wrong on the sunshine bit, more dull over cast greyness with the occasional light shower followed by a northeasterly wind that follows into the weekend, etc etc etc).
But anyway, Tuseday with have extended downtime so set a long skill...and put the kettle on.
I apologise for the Edit. It was for terrible spelling. Sorry for the apology. Thankyou.

Edited by: Elgar Lightfoot on 02/04/2007 12:53:02 That would be them saying they have some problem with the British. What happened to being politically correct towards the British?
After all it was the British who researched and invented GMT (our Navy). It's the standard by which ALL time has been measured ever since.
We already gave up Feet, Inches, Stones and god knows what else to appease Europe. It's about time Europe stepped down and gave credit where credit is due.
Oh btw the origin of Daylight savings was from when the majority of people worked outside. It was to allow the maximum availability of daylight for work. Without it it was too dark at 5am to do anything.

WTS legendary british sense of humour.
All jokes aside you are quite right. The British Empire invented time to keep things organised ie. ship slaves to the East Indies, ship sugar and coffee etc back the Europe, ship tea back to where-ever and sell Opium to the Chinese. Pale Ale fits in there somewhere too.
I with you on the measurements though, a mans...er, manhood just doesn't sound the same when measured centimetres or (gawd forbid) metres!!

If you respond to those e-mails about extending your, you know. I assume they send you a ruler with Centemeters scored out and Inches marked in its place.

If you change the word "Centemeters" and replace it with "Inches", you guarentee the perception of extention!

Again, seriously though, what is a second? The the duration of 9,192,631,770 periods of the radiation corresponding to the transition between the two hyperfine levels of the ground state of the caesium-133 atom, right? (As explained via the wonders of highlight wiki page Ctrl-C, open Eve forums Ctrl-V).
Or, a second is the time a photon takes to travel 299,792,458 meters in free space, right?
Interestingly enough a meter is or could be defined by a French standard (see here) so that would mean the measurement of time is actually French by our latter definition of time, photons and perhaps flying pie.
So GMT should be FMT (French Mean Time).
So 8-14 UTC = GMT which if your in the UK is 9-14 GMT+1 = FMT = CET + 1 ~ WTF?

Those crazy Brits.
Did you know that the British Calendar Act of 1751, caused all Brits to wake up on the 14th of Sept. after going to sleep the night of Sept. 2nd. My god that must have been restful.
