I'm considering trying out using ECM against the NPCs in missions and come across a problem, mostly due to EvElopedia being removed, how to find out what the sensor type the NPCs are using.
I've got everyone bar the Rogue drones and Mercenaries so far, anyone happen to know what sensor types they use or which jammers to use? |

The same rules apply as against player flown vessels: go by the colour of the background in the icon picture when you lock them and match the jammer colour.
Caldari 'base' ships have a Blue background, hit 'em with a Blue jammer, like a Rattlesnake for example. Red is Minmatar base ships, eg: Machariel. Amarr flavoured ones are yellow and Gallente the aqua green tinted one against, for example, Serpentis.
EWAR For Newbies
Edit, FYI: Sister's of Eve Ships, incidentally, are magnetometric, so use the blue Caldari jams.

Unless you are doing it for fun and giggles or testing, don't use ECM in security missions... specially if you are not in an Ewar ship that has ECM buffs. |

the type gives different strength vs that specific type.
from my experience running loads of missions from L1 to 4 don't use ECM, it's waste of time.
only EWAR I found marginally useful is target painting if you use missiles or if you use short range guns webs. |

Jamming NPCs in missions works exactly like jamming player ships. The NPC has a sensor strength that is compared to your jamming strength. NPCs also follow the same rules when they try to jam you. So ECCM can be useful when fighting Guristas.
If you succeed in jamming an NPC it just flies directly away from your ship (well, whichever ship did the jamming technically) in a straight line at full speed. Since this reduces transversal to zero it makes hitting said NPC with gun turrets trivially easy. So you would think this would make jamming useful against frigates that are usually hard for a BS to hit with large guns.
However since ECM is chance based it is not a good way to protect yourself from tackle frigates or high DPS BS/HACs. By the time you do get off a successful jam it may be too late to matter. Also, jamming and killing one tackle frigate while there are two or three more on the field doesn't really help when the jamming based killing process is generally much slower than just throwing a flight of light drones on the little buggers. Especially considering that ECM boats tend to be weak in direct combat and those midslots on some other hull could be used for better tank or projection/application. You are better off going with the usual solution to these issues, drones for tackle frigates and copious amounts of DPS for the larger NPC ships. |

Bit out of date but this has quite a few ships covered including rogue drones:

Works perfectly fine in burners I've heard, which would be a big help in dealing with the logi frigs. Don't know personally though; I don't run them.
"Tomahawks?"
"----in' A, right?"
"Trouble is, those things cost like a million and a half each."
"----, you pay me half that and I'll hump in some c4 and blow the ---- out of it my own damn self."
